Bobby Richardson

Bobby Richardson, native of Sumter, South Carolina, played second base for the New York Yankees from 1955 to 1966. He won the Gold Glove Award five times and was selected to the American League All-Star team eight times. Richardson played in seven World Series. He is the only player from a losing team to win the coveted Sport Magazine World Series Most Valuable Player award.

I have corresponded with Bobby on several occasions and he is just a warm and gracious person. He has autographed 6 baseballs and a VHS tape called Pinstripe Power, a wonderful documentary about the 61 Yankees. Thanks Bobby. You're my hero and a fine roll model. I spoke with Mr. Bobby Richardson in 2015, set up his appearance on a sports talk show. He was a perfect gentleman as usual, and I told him he was my favorite baseball player as a kid and a role model. Great guy!

An outstanding second baseman and a fine gentlemen. Bobby Richardson and Tony Kubek were a great shortstop 2nd base double play combination. And then there was the outstanding glove at 3rd base in the name of Clete Boyer. I was lucky to have my first year of watching my New York YANKEES and MLB be in 1961.

A glorious era in baseball. Overwhelming talent in both leagues.

Bobby Richardson was a great Yankee, but even more importantly he is a great person. Of all the many celebrities I have ever seen in person, Bobby Richardson was by far the best and most impressive. He is truly a man of great faith who actually lives his faith. Inspirational.

I loved the Yankees and Bobby Richardson

I was in Yankee Stadium when Bobby Richardson hit a grand slam against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third game of the World Series.

When McCovey hit the line drive in the 9th inning of the 7th game of the 1962 World Series, as a Yankee fan my heart sank because it was hit hard and looked like a sure hit, but Richardson had McCovey played just right. The 7th game was one of the great nail biters in baseball history. Yankee catcher Elston Howard had a similar reaction. As Howard put it, "I thought that was in there."

Fun fact I’m actually related to Bobby Richardson. I found that out when I went to our annual family reunion and saw him there. I got plenty of pictures and videos of the ceremony and Bobby Richardson as well.

Robert aka Bobby Richardson has always been one of my favorites Yankees of all time. His class and demeanor were only surpassed by his talent on the baseball diamond and moreso by his devoted love and inspiration for GOD. He's the finest down to earth super star I've ever met. Still have my signed ball too. I always noticed how nice his signature was too..... 30 years ago at a little league game. Probably 50 people asked him for an autograph and he took the time to sign every ball.

I played 2nd in Little League and idolized Bobby and Harvey Kuenn.. I lived and died with the Yanks but I followed all the great 2nd basemen.

Bobby did many great things on the field but his greatest work was done in God's honor. Helped lead many people to the Lord, Mickey Mantle among them . A true servant of God.

Stengel said “He doesn’t drink, smoke or chase women and he still can’t hit .250.!” Funny! Bill Skowron struck out and returned to the Yankee bench cursing loudly - he passed Richardson and said “Sorry Bobby” and walked on , cussing all the way.
