I saw Bobby last night in Orange Peel, Hong Kong (Oct 29 2015). He is now 81 and still such an amazing performer. Until three years ago, he was performing three times a week at Skylark Lounge (now long gone) and I caught every performance.

My dad Leroy Harrison, Bobby Taylor and Tomy Chong all started out with the original group to be later known as the Vancouvers. Bobby Taylor was a friend of my family and a heck of a singer!

Absolutely a stunning song! Donnie Simpson played this today on Majic 102.3 and dedicated it to a woman that had I think was abandoned by her mother! What a wonderful tribute! Love you Donnie for being the person you are!!!

DAMN! This is really really really very good! I usually cringe when we check out a lot of these old school shows only to hear singers murder a song with terrible vocals. This blows me away; Bobby Taylor sounds fantastic. Next time you run into that Brother, please let him know that folks appreciate such a heavy slow jam! Bobby Taylor is the TRUTH!

Thank you so much for sharing Bobby's story!!! I first met him in San Jose, CA in about 1997 and I was just blown away that we had the honor of having such a "great" talent in our city!!! Throughout the years we became friends, had many great times and later he gave me vocal coaching for several months and I will forever be grateful for his expertise, dedication, concern, time and assistance with my musical career! Because of Bobby many doors have opened for me and there are no words to express my appreciation! When he left to Hong Kong I never thought he would be gone this long and I miss him very much!!! I don't know if I will ever see him again but Bobby Taylor is very special!!! I appreciate you for your time and for sharing his talent with the world... he deserves much more!!!

I had no idea that this song was about an interracial relationship - Tommy Chong (Bobby's former bandmate and Cheech's future partner) wrote the song and was formerly married to Maxine Sneed (2 daughters: Rae Dawn and Robbi)

No one does it better these days than the artists during my time.Thats why their songs and them last a lifetime, unfogettable artists and their music, unlike now, where they all sound the same to me.thats only my opinion,no offense meant.

I was under the impression that this song was about inter-racial dating in the 60's. Cheech & Chong were on the Dr. Demento Show in '79, and Tommy had him play this song, and I think he spoke on that was what it was about.

I saw one of your albums in this record shop here in Vancouver,I sure wish I had the money then and now! The teller he wanted a $100.00 for it like a collectors album! So,I hope to hear or keep in touch with you eh! Your fan and friend Joe Chow Johnson!

Per: www.oldiesmusic.com/news.htm {07-23-2017} Bobby Taylor, leader of Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers, died Saturday (July 22nd, 2017) of throat cancer at the age of 83... The Washington, DC native formed the group (which included Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong) as Little Daddy & the Bachelors in San Francisco in the early 60s. Mary Wilson and Flo Ballard of the Supremes brought them to the attention of Motown's Berry Gordy, who signed them (as the Vancouvers) and their single "Does Your Mama Know About Me" reached #29 (#5-R&B) in 1969. Two* other singles failed to crack the top 40 and the group broke up, though Bobby recorded 8 solo singles... May he R.I.P. * The groups two other Top 100 records were "I Am Your Man" {#85 in 1968} and "Malinda" {#48 in 1969}...
