As a Chinese, I went back to my country last month, and I happened to rent an Omoda for a few days. It was fine. The most amazing thing is that I found that the price of this car in China (including sales tax, excluding road tax) is only 78K RMB (1.5T/160hp) to 109K RMB (1.6T/200hp), about 10500 USD to 15500 USD . So I think Chery still has the potential for a price war in the future.

Left hand drive in China and right hand drive in Malaysia. Totally different cost amortisation number of units over time. China sells in a month what Malaysia sells in four years. So cost of production and economies of scale in China is totally different from RHD markets like Malaysia

Here in Malaysia government give protection to local car brand, that's why foreign Brand are pricier
@大象大头11 ай бұрын
The Chinese market is abnormal. Excessive promotion of Japanese and German cars. Many Chinese people are deceived into thinking that only foreign cars are good cars. In fact, Chery's technology is also world-class. Chery's export sales are much higher than in the domestic market in China. Chinese people are really stupid. They even believe that Huawei's phones are not as good as those of Apple or Samsung. In fact, Huawei's phones are excellent in all aspects, especially in terms of signal reception and batteries.@@BobbyAngmalaysia

(Awas/Beware 9/2/24) Chery Australia has recalled 5901 examples of its Omoda 5, after discovering a defect which can result in brake failure for the small SUV. The recall affects all Chery Omoda 5s sold in Australia since local deliveries began in mid-2023. “Due to a manufacturing defect, the bolt securing the brake pipe union may not have been tightened sufficiently. This could cause the brake fluid to leak and result in reduced braking performance,” Chery said in its recall notice. “A reduction in braking performance could increase the risk of an accident resulting in serious injury or death to the vehicle occupants, pedestrians and other road users.”

Chery cars tend to have a clearer perception of road feel. He is not like a Japanese or Korean car, just like taking a boat. This is the difference in chassis tuning. Cars in Japan and South Korea may not seem as hard to make, but at the same time, they lose some safety. In the moose test, it is definitely worse than Chery's score. That is to say, Japanese and Korean cars are prone to overturning when encountering sudden emergency situations that require cars to avoid. Chery, on the other hand, is more stable.

china selling ICE vehicles to us, while themselves transitioning to EV almost everywhere. just visited guangzhou and shanghai, everywhere EV
@fasap Жыл бұрын
Because most Malaysians are still 50/50 on the EV bandwagon and the fact that most Malaysians still cant see past the 'resale value' dogma. Also considering our EV infra is not that developed compared to guangzhou and shanghai EV infra (do correct me, as been a long time since ive been there). To me, Malaysians can truly start to enjoy and adopt EVs in 5-10 years time the least in order for the infra and mindset to catch up. 5-10 years is still a long way to go, and ICE cars will still be highly relevant here for the same period too.

Was given a chance to test drive it. I know it's an suv and it's price bracket, so I shouldn't expect too much. But damn even with zero expectations I was disappointed. Definitely a passengers only car, not drivers car. Body rolls like a yacht at sea, and going 110km/h already floaty and bouncy. Road noise and engine noise was quite (a little over quite) noticeable as well. Wind noise not so much.

Hi Bobby, let's be realistic here for a second, most Malaysians is worried about 2 main issues. After-sales service and Reliability, will spare parts be easy to get and change ? Will the car still hold up after 5 years or any other years with regular daily driving including wear and tear ? What is your 2 cents on these 2 topic ?
@BobbyAngmalaysia Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't know because they just started coming back. But to be honest, officially coming into Malaysia should be very different from previously just a sole distributor selling their cars. But at least when we met the people of cherry, they immediately proactively mention about their determination to be better at after sales and stressing that they are very serious about it. We will only know in time. But from the fact that cherry is china's largest exporter of cars, there must be something they're doing right for if not they won't be bale to grow globally.
@droneascent Жыл бұрын
@@BobbyAngmalaysia Thanks for your 2 cents, greatly appreciated. I guess what's left now is to wait for a year at least, to see how this whole thing works out to be, I'm also waiting for a year before deciding whether or not to put my money into the Omoda 5. If everything does indeed works out well, I wouldn't hesitate to get it right by then.

@BobbyAngmalaysia That's the thing. I am not even looking at it from a canyon carving point of view. I can't even safely brake in normal traffic. Either I am over braking or not applying enough pressure to stop at the traffic light. I'm always guessing how to apply the brakes. And as someone who regularly drives various cars in my line of work, this sort of brakes is a turn-off. The rest of the car is good.
