Hey All…working on a video of a super cool and very elusive Mutt trick that will blow your mind…will be out in the next 2-4 weeks!! Thanks for watching and stay tuned! Doc
@pulamea55643 жыл бұрын
Hey Bobby, what are some Mutt Lange drum methods we can use with 808-based country music drum programming, similar to the 808-fueled chorus in Walker Hayes' "Fancy Like"? Some modern country is going in that direction, very interesting. Your comment is greatly appreciated, keep up the awesome work
@BobbyHuff3 жыл бұрын
@@pulamea5564 hey Pula. Not a lot of Mutt drum instincts in this song and the whole 808 thing. There could possibly be some 808 stuff on Shanias “Up,” album but I’m not sure. The FGL type country direction is very Mutt-ish with big drums and claps. The Walker Hayes 808 type thing sound like some snappy compression, a good bit of top end, and some saturation with something like Decapitator by Sound Toys. The “Hick Hop,” thing has certainly infiltrated Nashville so study the good programming and tricks in Rap and RNB and you should be in good shape.

Nice! The reverb tail part was critical. I tried adding backwards drums a few times before but never realized that adding reverb before bouncing was the secret sauce! Once again - thanks for posting this.

Well, Yeah.. it would just be a reversed snare with reverb, and you’d need the long decay of the reverb to lead into the transient. It wouldn’t really make much sense otherwise

Piping in a year late,really enjoyed this. Mutt has mad skills. If you carefully listen to AC/DC's Back In Black,he works real magic creating "sound clouds" for the drum cymbals/high end. No harshness. It all just floats in its own space,the mono imaging inside a great stereo mix. Damn amazing,close to impossible to re-create.

The amount of craft and detail that went into Hysteria is off the show. Just imagine if Mutt ever decided to make a Masterclass series going through his best known tracks. Every engineer and producer on the planet would pony up the $ willingly.

Stuff like this gives me 1000% more respect for the folks who did this back in the day by hacking their tape with a knife, figuring out how to use their equipment in inventive non-standard ways, and trying things over and over again until they discovered something new. We have it so easy now.

@BobbyHuff3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha! That sounds awesome!!
@whychromosomesmusic57663 жыл бұрын
@@BobbyHuff Thanks. Sometimes my throat gets crud in it and even singing is difficult then. So the other sounds are difficult. And it is not possible to always create "melodies" per se and sometimes it's more like an electronic drone sound as opposed to a melody. Like static. I think it could have applications in things like EDM or video game music. But for now it's just something weird that I can do! lol I do have some recorded if you want to hear it just let me know. If not that's okay too. Michael Brown of Amalgam Studios and I did use them in an instrumental composition recorded in his home studio in the Boro. I don't know what happened to the MP3. I lost it! lol He played flute and it sounded pretty cool like some kind of movie soundtrack.

This way works fine for a single hit, but if you want to do this with, say, a vocal line or bar or two of something, reverse the audio FIRST, then record the reverb with no dry signal, and then reverse the reverb and move it forward into place.. otherwise the order of swells will be backwards, see what I mean?
