I've learned alot watching your GREAT videos Thanks. On your Bobcat catches do you have a favorite lure?
@TheLordoftheNorth8 ай бұрын
I don't use much lure anymore withr the boxes. Get them tight on location with some flagging and good bait. I'm not opposed to mixing some sac oil or castor in the bait.

Set a spot just like that this morning, I was looking for a spot to make an otter set on a dam, and there was cat tracks going across the creek on the dam, so I hung some snares

Try a Tidy cat litter bucket or laundry detergent bucket works great a 220 fits perfectly with a built in handle. You can build one in less than 5 minutes

Those are beautiful boxes. I just have one question when you put a rabbit on the joints in the corners and then you screwed through the smallest piece of wood into the thickest piece I would’ve put the screws in sideways into the sides instead of the top and bottom that’s just my look at it. Otherwise, the box looks perfect. I love the handle idea I think you’re the only one that does that. 🇨🇦✌️

A screw at a 45 is a good idea. If I ever build boxes again. I am going to make them out of plywood and just do butt joints. I've had a few handles come off due to the grain splitting.

Ive used 1/2" plywood for years, the majority of them have withstood abuse for 35+ years. The ones made out of cedar tended to split out during dry below zero conditions

Did you use water protection on them (Thompson's) clear poly or something to help extend their life? would black finish help animal curiosity?

Great video but have a question - Do you elevate your bobcat boxes any or set flat ? Thanks
@TheLordoftheNorth2 жыл бұрын
Elevate the front of them whenever possible. Anything to make things as inviting as possible for the bobcat to enter the box. Having the front slightly elevated will angle the box upwards to where the cat cat see down in the box by just standing. As compared to the cat having to crouch down. Often times there are spots that I can set the box on top of to where it is eye level to the bobcat. Feel free to join the Discord and I can go in depth as much as you'd like me to.

That's a lot of carpentry and preparation not to mention skinning, fleshing and stretching for pelts that sold for; Fisher = $20 and Bobcat $100 averages??
@TheLordoftheNorth2 жыл бұрын
I kept them all to be tanned for garment making. If I wanted to sell some cats I'd go out west to get some that are actually worth something.
@eduffy49377 ай бұрын
A LOT of people have hobbies that do nothing but cost you money. This is enjoyable and if you're a good woodsman and youre handy, you can make a good deal of money trapping. I do damage control all year, then when theyre in season i sell beaver pelts put up, sell the oil sacks, sell the dried castor, sell the skulls, sell the tails, eat the meat, then sell all of my fox, coyotes, bobcat, otter, fisher, pine marten, mink, weasels, muskrat etc. Then of course I pull and sell all the glands from each animal. Also sell skulls from many of them as well. There's money to be made if you know how to market your goods.

Do you have marten.Are you allowed to go after wolf?
@TheLordoftheNorth Жыл бұрын
We have the rare marten in this neck of the woods. There's a lot of wolves in this area, not allowed to trap them.
