Bob Golthwaite abandoned this caricature years ago. I do understand how difficult it would have been to carry this on through aging years. But this is just about the most gut wrenching laughter that I can remember. I loved his persona back in the 70s. The man is a genius. And I had no doubt back in the 70s that he was a genius . It is probably best for him to have abandoned this persona just because it requires a younger man to do this. I laughed so hard watching this link that it superseded all of the previous you tube postings that I have seen since I got a computer to watch this stuff on. A comic genius. That's all that I can say. He does guest on NPR's programs on Saturday occasionally. He is a brilliant man. Kudos Bob!

He reminds me 100% of my brother in law- and I mean the character that Bob has created and has made his mark with. When I first met my brother in law, I was in middle school, and he was a senior in high school (back in the 80's)....and hadn't yet met my sister who was in college. Anyway the police academy movies were pretty big stuff at the time and of course my brother in law hammed it up.......and it never has taken much effort. He doesn't even have to try, he pretty much talks, snorts, paces, etc. And the more excited he gets the more he does it......until he get's pissed off. Then you had better leave the county for a day or two.......

I don't think most people realize how much this man influenced modern comedy. Even people like Louis CK who seems like he's just making it up as he goes and falling apart but in reality it's all planned, he knows every beat he's gonna hit and has impeccable timing. But I think he got that from watching RFG. Even his Magic Mike routine seems like it may have been influenced by this special. Not necessarily stolen or copied but who else has the balls to stand on stage and say "I have homosexual tendencies"? Bobcat did it first.

I noticed that this was originally aired in 1988. It's interesting to listen to the issues that he makes jokes about from that time because I was only 8 years old in 1988. So, I was too young at the time to care about anything political or otherwise going on in the world at the time. Back then, all I cared about was playing with my friends and being a kid.
