Bobcat hydraulic cylinder leaking on my T300 vertical lift machine. How to reseal the cylinder without removing the barrel. Vertical lift machines seem to leak more often than radial lift machines.

I worked as a cylinder tech for 5 years. I have a couple of tips for you. 1. Invest in smaller picks for more control, When peeling seals out. If you make a burr, the oil will follow it to bypass seals. 2. Flathead screwdrivers work wonders when putting in the u-seal. Feed the u-seal into the groove, and when the last little bit is sticking up use a wide flathead to push the rest down. 3. If you do make a burr with your big pick, you can use alittle sand paper to level it out, don’t over do it. 4. If you have burrs or pitting on your rod, you can polish them out. That’s what usually chews through the u-seal.

You just took the mystery out of replacing seals in the lift arms. I've always removed the entire cylinder and brought it to a hydraulic shop. The next one I'm going to try on my own. Thank you. Your Bobcat videos are amazing. Bobcat should pay you since you're teaching Bobcat owners like myself to become more familiar and comfortable with owning our Bobcat equipment.

Two weeks ago, using your video, I replaced both lift cylinder seals. Removing the gland nuts and removing the large nuts holding the piston in place were certainly the hardest part of the procedure. Replacing the seals themselves was a piece of cake. I would really appreciate it if you could do a video on replacing the seals in the tilt cylinder. Thanks for the excellent work.

Today I was able to get the leaking lift cylinder out of my S185, but my air hammer drill isn't budging the nut at all. When you talk about heating the nut, are you talking about a propane torch, or something else to melt the lock tight? I could probably take this into our mechanic at work on Monday, but I'm bound and determined to fix this darn thing myself!!! Thank you for the video and your help.

Your videos are great. I especially like the format and camera work that you do. No nonsense and no hype just straight forward information. I was wondering if you have considered doing a video on older bobcats or maybe just skid steers and mini ex in general that are good candidates for homeowner guys like me that are worth purchasing and putting time into and which ones you think are good to avoid due to bad design or due to parts availability or any other pitfalls that turn these things into lawn ornaments. Anyway thank you for taking your time out to make all these

Is this basically the same process on an S185? Someone told me the cylinder on the S185 is too long to come out the top without raising the arms higher that the safety stop. I just finished resealing one tilt cylinder, but just discovered that one of the lift cylinders is leaking out of it's top. This video was great though. Very well done. Made a lot of sense. The only thing I would change is to make sure that people know that the first two seals have to go in with a certain side up.

Great detailed video, thank you! I have a T190 and need to replace the seals but not sure of this method will work. Your lift arms have that gap where you can pull the piston up and out (where the pin goes through). Mine are tubular steel, so I won’t be able pull the piston through up and out. So I’m not sure if this method will work with medium size framed machines (S175/185 and T180/190).

Same.. but I think ours might be a little more tricky based on the research I’ve done. The lift arms on the larger frame machines have a gap between the two steel edges. That allows you to slide the piston rod right out. Our T190’s have a solid tubular lift arm with no gap.

The lift arms must be angled a bit diff on M series. For T650 I had to use a forklift to raise my arms 8+ in higher than they would sit on the safety U bar to get enuff room to pull my rod out. Yes on the older machines I have run into that situation. The head is aluminum and the barrel is steel so over time the dissimilar metals corrod to one another and makes it impossible to remove. I have lots of tricks but sometimes the cylinder needs to be replaced.
