We were there the same night as you - saw our van as you walk around the site. That day we had a lovely walk from the site into the city to see the cathedral. We then got the bus (dog friendly) back to the site

Being a panel vanner ourselves we are really interested to see how you get on! I can relate to you comment of not finding anything in the van, I used my son's caravan this last week and had that problem for the first 2 days!!! Love the Salisbury site, happy memories from staying there. Thank you and take care.

We've been to Salisbury site a few times. It's a lovely walk into the city, the cathedral is glorious. It's also a comfortable walk to Old Sarum, so plenty of good walks around, no need for a car. We loved the pizzas, the one time our visit co-incided with them being on offer. I must admit, we haven't used the site toilet/ showers, and last time they were closed, not missed as of course we have our own facilities onboard. Looking forward to hearing how you got on with the van.

That looks like a great van and a very similar layout to the Autosleeper Warwick XL. I think the Warwick XL has a bigger washroom and a smaller cupboard. It also has the underslung gas tank. It will be interesting to see your review. Salisbury is one of our favourite sites. We love it when you can walk straight into the city and the cathedral, shops and cafes were great. We also found a lovely local pub 😁.

Another great video Bob - Can understand the attraction of downsizing but for now we are happy to keep our bigger space the separate toilet and shower and not having to make the beds up each night. Call me an old fuddy duddy but we see camper van as more of an option for younger people. Be interested in your comments at the end of the 3 days on how you jenny and the dogs got on with less space thank you

Salisbury is my favourite site as it's less than an hour's drive from home. It's generally well managed but is always very busy, partly due to its position close to the city which I love. The freshly cooked pizzas are very nice, glad you had them. Looking forward to your review of the van, but like everything there will clearly be compromises. Thanks Bob & Jenny

Be really interested to see how you get on in the van as I was going to get a Kontiki Sport 560 but swapped to a Ducato conversion (Elddis CV20) because of the narrower profile - looked a nice conversion, well finished. All the best, David 👍

Great video Bob, we had to sell our 6 berth at the beginning of the year due to my cancer as it was to big for my wife to cope with but we are looking at a swift select 184 which would suit us to to the ground

Whilst it would be easier to drive and park a van of that size, I’m not sure I’d want to downsize my 7.5 meter long Burstner as I do like the extra space that my van provides. Mind you I do like the long settees. Shame you couldn’t get to drive it as it would’ve been interesting to hear your opinions.

Shame they couldn't let you drive it and class it as a test drive as they do that with trade plates? Although Jenny would have to drive the car behind. Did another car come with you that took the driver of the van back then?

I didn't realise at the time but someone followed us to pick up the driver. I think I would have needed the weekend to find out how the driving was.

Quite honestly as someone who has just ordered a panel van conversion to replace our A class, I found nothing I liked about that van. The cupboards looked cheap, the upholstery dated, the wet room was shocking, and as for having to make up a bed every night, and having to use much of the limited storage space to store bedding no way. Why not simply have proper fixed beds at the rear. The bedroom can still be used like a lounge, and you don’t need to make up beds, or store the bedding. Also you get a lovely big garage for all the essentials. If you were trying to put people of buying a van conversion you did a great job Bob , but thanks for the video.

Well thanks for the feedback, I wasn't trying to put people off a panel van conversion, just trying to be honest about what we tried out. We thought the lounge at the back was it's best feature and the fact we could just sleep on the sofas was really handy.

@@BobEarnshawMoHo That was a tongue in cheek comment Bob I know you were not intending to put people off. But that van was in my honest opinion a very poor example of a van conversion. The most comfortable seats on most vans are the front captains seats. In that van the wet room was right behind the drivers front seat making its use as a swivelling captains seat impossible. You can still use the bedroom as a lounge and swivel the tv to face the bedroom if you want to watch tv. There are far better layouts than that model in my honest opinion. Rear lounges in large motorhomes are fine if that’s what you like, but in a van conversion with limited storage, they are a luxury you simply cannot afford. Our van conversion won’t require bedding to be stored, and has a large garage area under the beds. I know others won’t agree, and that’s why manufacturers try to cater for all our requirements and preferences. Thanks again for your video.

Was looking forward to picking up my new van next month to get away for some peaceful relaxing weekends but some of the videos out there fill me with horror. Small yappy dogs on site. Serious question. Are there any good sites to recommend without the soundtrack of yap? I’m sure the campers love their dogs but convinced not everyone wants to tolerate the social nuisance.
