This Helped,Thanks. 2011HHR only tweeters worked. Just Replace all Speakers. Works Great Now. You would think, as i did, that something else was the problem. Working on my Own Home Stereos, 1 Channel goes out or speaker ,its that side. Not on This Car Stereo, it all goes. Dont waste time like i did. My Son got Speakers for the wife for Christmas and Yahoo it works.

My 2011 HHR, all left speakers are out: Balance left = no sound out, regardless of Fader position. So I thought maybe wires somehow disconnected or something, but thanks for this comment, seems speakers just die quick on the HHR - according to other comments water tends to collect on the speakers by the wire connectors...

Can be contact corrosion at speaker connector also. Replaced 3 speakers so far on my 2008 hhr . Maybe some dielectric grease after cleaning connector may make it last longer whether you replace speaker or not. I love my hhr even with it's quirks :)

Excellent video. Lots of work. You were so good to explain each part and it's ease to remove. My problem on my 2007 HHR is the Aux port. Sometimes while using the cable it can barely be heard through the speakers. Then if the cable is moved a certain way, it blast the music. Then goes right back to barely a sound. We thought it was the cables for a long time. So, after purchasing many cables, we realized it was the aux port. I didn't see a video on fixing or repairing that problem. You have a loose AUX port. Look for videos on how to repair the radio aux port.

OMG my 2008 HHR has the same issue, back two speakers out totally, the right front was going in and out and now it's basically gone, but the two from tweeters work fine.

2008 HHR stereo works but very low volume, you can barely hear it. CD is the same. At one point I turned on the stereo and it worked fine but only for about an hour as I was traveling down the road, then it went back to low volume. What can it be? I was thinking that there was a bad ground somewhere, can you tell me where the ground wires for the stereo are located?

I have the same problem with a 09 hhr. As of right now the only speaker that works is the left tweeter. Though if you leave the stereo on long enough the other speakers come on or when I hit a bump or turn really really fast (yes I experimented on that one). So I guess my question is, Are the speakers really bad and need to be replaced.

Since there is no answer to this yet...the answer is Yes, a failed speaker can go in and out randomly. This would happen if there's a failure where the joint between the voice coil leads and the speaker terminal leads have broken. The reason it's intermittent like it is is a matter of fit. The voice coil leads are coated where they run over the surface of the speaker. The problem is when the speaker is driven hard, the cone flexes, and eventually the wire has a tiny break, as invisibly small. This break can lead to the speaker making contact when conditions are right, but losing contact when the speaker is outside of that range of conditions. Heavier voice coil leads would have prevented this issue, but to be fair, most automotive engineers don't expect us to be blasting our radios as hard as we often do. Cheers! :)

My HHR has this issue... turns out water leaks down right onto the contacts were the connectors are and it corrodes. So even if you replace them you should run a silicon baffle to protect the rear of the speakers... or what i did was cut the door panel out... mounted the speaker to the panel itself... and left the stock ones in to protect the new ones from damage. There was enought room for my new 6.5". I don't mind cutting my door panel up to save problems in the future. Now im worried the door bottoms will rust out on these in 5 more yrs. So stock tip... buy a set of rust free doors and hold on to them and in 20yrs sell em for a mint. lol

Great Video thank you. I have a Question though. My 2009 that I just purchased has only the drivers speaker and tweeter working. Is it possible to do the speaker check at the wire harness connection to the door speakers instead of taking off the door panel? And where is this disconnect located for front and rear doors? I find it unusual that all of these speakers would be out at the same time unless it was a connection issue. Thank you

lol, not that unusual. Just crappy GM quality. I bought a used '09 HHR this past Christmas and only the front and rear speakers on the driver's side worked. Both passenger side ones are dead. I replaced them with Kenwood 6.5" speakers and they work fine.

My problem on a 2009 HHR on the speakers is most often they don't work, only the two tweeters work, but sometimes all the speakers are working and they sound great like new. MMMMM....Go figure???

I have an "09" and have the same issue as so many others. Driver side spkr, and both tweeters work. Passenger and both rear door spkrs don't. Yet...on occasion when it's hot inside, I'll get both front spkrs and one rear passenger side spkr to work. "Intermittent speakers"?? This is unbelievable to be happening to so many customers and not just one year, but several years made in the HHR line. WTF GM?????? Why is the drivers spkr ok in many situations? Yet the others die? What a pathetic pain in the consumers arse. I've heard that the whole sound system is manufactured in Mexico and assembled God knows where anymore.

This is not easy when it comes to in hooking the handle cable is there a easier way like cutting a hole in the plastic and replace speaker then use a speaker grill cover

Same exact issue on my 2010 HHR LS, both tweeters work and the drivers side front speaker works intermittently, but all other speakers are completely out.

Update: using the Aux line feature on the factory stereo unit, or CD player the sound comes out of the Passenger Front speaker and both tweeters, but nothing from back speakers. Using my Power Port Bluetooth/Phone Charger sound comes out of the driver side speaker and both tweeters, and nothing from the back speakers. But if it's freezing outside and the car is turned off, and you come back overnight only the tweeters will work no matter what you do.

Fact: The HHR door speakers are bad, it will easier to just replace them at $20 a pair of speakers from Amazon. I've fixed them in the past only to have them got out again, poor design/speaker intermittent.
