Yes, the dates are off a little. I worked there in 1979-1980. It was an amazing time!

Yes, I guess it was an amazing time in the days of past when it was open. Unfortunately I didn’t live in this area at that time. I wish I did I envy you at least you were there. Thanks for watching and your comments.

Thank you for watching in your comments. I planned a visit here again maybe one day and do an update video but we'll see what happens to the development of this island.

Hi. Thanks for this, but you may not have been as careful about details as you could have. The park opened in 1898 not 1998. The Boblo boats held up to 2500, not 250 people. The current ferry terminal is not the original. Most people came from the Michigan side of the river. The French name of the island, Bois Blanc is pronounced more like bwa blonk than the way you pronounced it. Boblo was a favourite childhood memory for me and thousands of kids from Ontario and Michigan. It has been referred to as "Detroit's Coney Island" because it has catered largely to Americans even though it is a Canadian island. A fascinating history!

Nice I’m sorry to say that I wasn’t in this area that time to be able to experience the park when it was open to the public both the US and Canadian side. Thanks for watching the video. Thanks for your comments and please share.

I know of a coworker who owns a home on Bob-Lo-Island. But it's a bitch to cross the Detroit River during the cold winter months dealing with the river ice. My former boss was a brother to Captain Bob-Lo. His last name was Short.

Rich people ruin everything. There was a quaint little enclave of tiny cabins at Wolverine Lake in Michigan where we vacationed a couple of times when I was a kid. We still have a few photos, I wish we had taken more. I was curious to see if it were still there fifty years later. Of course not! Long gone, now all that exists are lakefront homes strangling out everything else. THEY own the lake now.

Yes, I totally agree with you. It’s amazing. What money can do. It was a fabulous little place both for Canadians and Americans to enjoy the island. Thank you for watching and your comments.

Sad to see these amusement parks closed and unfortunately a common sight. BobLo Island puts me in mind of Conneaut Lake Amusement Park just south of Erie, PA and west of Meadville. Not to be totally sad, several parks have survived and remain open to the joy of millions of visitors each year. Thanks for the memories. From the sugar sand shores of Alabama, be well, safe travels and "Stay Gold".... eh🍻

@@ACanadianRVereh The contractor has been doubling as a security force since developing the island. They have always made it a priority to discourage ordinary folks from coming over an gawking at the little magic kingdom they have created and the manor in which they allowing the old amusement park buildings to fall into disrepair and destruction. The whole development is just short of being a completely gated community of the wealthy. It's an absolute crime and travesty that island was ever privately acquired and developed post amusement park. The influence of the island wealth is now slowly gentrifying Amherstburg itself! Rather than just the buildings, the whole island should have been left for nature itself to reclaim. It now has all the charm of any other modern asphalt and concrete urban sprawl development. No matter how grandiose the castles it reeks of boring cookie cutter replication. All vestige of the natural beauty of the island is now gone along with the defunct amusement operation as nothing more than a distant memory of what once was. Trespassers beware!
