This song and what it represented in the era it was released....I understand trying to make money and introducing it to a new audience and I appreciate seeing it in a new format, music is to be enjoyed and not judged. Nixon and crew established the war on drugs in the USA and made Mary Jane a Schedule 1 drug(like LSD or red poppy) to infiltrate the hippies and blacks because said entities didn't believe in the war in Vietnam and were a threat. There were riots in this era before the song came out but there was a shift in thinking and luckily I found weed and beer. What this song meant to me was even though they were suppressing us, thought maybe they would take care of us but they defunded education in the 80's, wages stayed flat and the cost of living increased until you see today increasing homelessness and poverty. Bob REPRESENTED the outcast.

It's wild how much Bob Marley universally is accepted in any culture or region. I've seen Russian comments, spanish/South American, American and English, etc. Comments on every one of his music videos. Its insane how music can make us feel close just by emotion.
