The last time I saw Bob live he was FAT and was still in Husker Du (85 or 86). I later had all his solo stuff and with Sugar through the 90s, but I hadn’t seen him in 2 decades since the Huskers broke up. I didn’t even know he trimmed down. Then in 2009 I heard that Bob was playing a local bar in Philly (North Star Bar) and I decided to go. I didn’t know what to expect. Anyway, the opening act finished their set and cleared the stage. Then some skinny bearded, bespectacled dude in a hooded sweatshirt with the hood up came out and set up an amp, mic, and effects pedals, then left the stage. No drums, no bass amp, no additional mics... nothing. Not even a stool. About 20 minutes later, Bob came out onto the stage (it was he who was the hooded roadie 20 minutes earlier)! I was stunned at how great he looked. He strapped on that guitar and started slashing into some blistering chords of a Sugar song, singing like he meant every word, and the goosebumps took me over the entire set! Bob had the most powerful presence and diamond-sharp focus and determination that night. Everyone was feeling it and it just rolled through the crowd to the back of the room and up to the stage again, and he just fed off it. In all my years seeing live bands (metal, punk, grunge), I’ve never seen anything more powerful than that lone figure of Bob Mould with his guitar ripping through a set of his best work that night.

Yeah, he has some good 'bad attitude', meaning that he stopped drinking in 86 and before that skipped speed and stuff .. Damn in my eyes he looks so much more rough and steady in 2019 comparin to early Husker or even Sugar -days back in the 90's. Not many guys can do that.

Yup. He never forgot where he came from - drumming in an obscure D.C. based hardcore band called Scream. And to his immense credit, he's been boosting his contemporaries from that first era ever since. You can tell he deeply loves the music from his youth and the artists that made it. A few years before Grant Hart died, he lost his house and all of his belongings in a fire; apparently Dave found out and spent quite a white trying (ultimately unsuccessfully) to convince Grant to let him buy him a new house. Not many people would do something like that for an acquaintance, even if they could.

I'll never be a Foo Fighters fan, their music goes over my head and flows past me. Having said that, Dave Grohl is the coolest musician on the planet. He refuses to take his celebrity seriously and erases the barrier between fan and band. Can't say enough nice things about that guy.
