I thought of something else! Connecting the parent to Frosty's original story could've worked! Tommy's mother should have been Karen, the little girl who built Frosty! When he never returned to her for whatever reason, maybe her family moving or his other adventures derailing him or something, Karen lost faith in him and went on to marry Tommy's dad, eventually giving Frosty up. She then watches as Frosty interacts with people in town and secretly wants to join in, but is afraid of being let down again like she was the first time and restrains herself from seeking him out. I'd have loved to see Karen again, even if it meant doing a reunion as an adult. It would be canon and make more sense than what's his face the mayor
@zooemperor39546 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Ellison personally, I thought that Karen was Tommy’s mother, but then that would make Theodore (the boy who was the magician Professor Hinkle’s son) her cousin since Hinkle was Karen’s uncle, I think, so that can’t be right either. So they cut out Karen entirely!? For shame movie! For shame!

I think I know what why this movie doesn't acknowledges any of the previous Frosty movies: It's a reboot. Think about it, as you said in your Legends of The Dark Knight #1 Review, this movie starts from scratch and treats the other treatments of this series never happened. And just like the New 52, it totally fails to understand what the main character is about. 28:58 Maybe Sara did realize her dream of being an urban developer, then after many successful years she and Tommy decide to move to the forest after their retirement? Did that ever occur to you? PS, I'm surprised you didn't make a single Frozen joke during this entire month.
@Masterge778 жыл бұрын
I remember seeing this on Cartoon Network years back, and wondered what it even had to do with the original at all. I mean, at least "Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys" had connection to the original, this is more Frosty "In-name-only" than Frosty's Return was. We basically have a pro-anarchist snowman that claims that he's Frosty and goes against the authoritarian establishment of a psuedo-1950's community. I dunno, but I have no clue what the heck the people who made this movie were thinking, you could call the snowman something else and nothing would change, it would still be a very confused movie.
@SuperGamer614998 жыл бұрын
I know right? At least Frosty Returns had some connection to the original movie.(Granted, that one wasn't the best either but I rather watch that one than The Legend Of Frosty ever again.) I would like a Frosty special where the kids lived in a gloomy town full of technology and rules much like our world, but some kids decided to build Frosty and he comes to life cheering all the kids up and making their Christmas more meaningful. There can be the town deciding to stop being so cold and empty and change for the better because of Frosty. Maybe Frosty can help the kids with their problems with their parents, like what this movie was trying to do. I like the idea of this movie that Frosty makes people and their way of living different, it’s a positive form of anarchy like Cat in the Hat. But nope, this movie had to be an edgy 50s style story about oppression and fascism. Which doesn’t sound like Frosty at all. I like tackling a more mature idea but some things just don’t mix.

I think the point of Frosty attempting to find Mayor Tinkerton before Principal Penkley takes over Evergreen is that with Tinkerton still as mayor, Frosty has a chance of coaxing him to become more relaxed and make the town's regulations more liberal. With Penkley in power, on the other hand, nobody has the prospect of getting him to deviate from his ideology or his authoritarian objective.
@metademetra8 жыл бұрын
22:20 A SCHOOL PRINCIPAL CAN'T DO THAT. 1) There needs to be a GOOD reason to dismiss a mayor (i.e. he committed a crime) 2) After that I'm pretty sure either a public election needs to take place or the next runner up (Definitely NOT a school principal) will step up be in charge until the next election term. 3) In the grand scheme of things, PRINCIPALS HAVE VERY LITTLE POWER. All they is their school. And even then the school district is what comes up with school rules and funding. 4) There are also more than just one school per city. EVEN in the fifties! So what's stopping a principal from a different school from saying "Hey, you're the same rank as me. Why do YOU get to take over as mayor?"

You know how people joke about sequels by saying things like "whoever made this didn't even watch the original first"? I'm tempted to believe that was actually the case for this movie. 7: 53 Starch is not a food group, and corn does not contain starch! Corn is a grass! If you must be a stuck up snob, get your facts straight first! (Edit: I should specify that yes, it does contain starch, but not as other starch filled foods. It is a chemical reaction that occurs within the kernels when energy is converted into fat. Also, corn starch does not break down in the body like potato or other starch does, and most of it passes through our bodies undigested. That is why it cannot be labeled as a starchy food for dietary purposes. This is what I meant, but its not clear, so I decided to specify before I got a thousand links to corn starch cans.) 8:15 Any family that neurotic about details would never stack dishes in the sink like that to begin with, and when it came time to clean them, they would say to wash the dishes (thoroughly), not rinse them. Also, that kitchen setup is entirely too chaotic to belong to someone like that. Again, if you're going to have a neurotic character, do it right! 8:55 Why is kidnapping such a common theme in bad children's movies? 11:04 I paused here to get dinner, and I come back to see that face. He looks confused, annoyed, and stoned. Good work, animators! 13:40 Okay, look. This trick isn't done much anymore and almost everybody knows how its done. That doesn't mean that you have to ruin a perfectly good trick for every young person in the audience with such a pointless scene! I despise it when cartoons ruin jokes or tricks that could evoke wonder and inspiration for them if they saw it done properly, but ends up being a non-entity that passes them by with barely a notice because of how haphazardly and sloppily it is presented. THIS is a large part of what is ruining the magic and wonder of childhood! 15:15 Yep! He's the only one not breaking the rules...by being in a basement obviously hidden away for its creative contents left to rot. If you're going to have a setup, use it! 15:30 What is it with children's movies having some of the worst people? I should not hate someone so much from just one line. 17:30 NOBODY IS THIS NEUROTIC! For the record, if they were so anal-retentive, they would also have a problem with wasting paper each day to write out their habits that they would have memorized! I'm not expecting children's cartoon creators to major in psychology, but I do expect them to draw inspiration from real life. This guy isn't even one dimensional-he's nonsensical! 18:38 O_O 20:42 Oh, my gravy! "Kali-ma!" 20:53 See? We were on the same wavelength! That is not a good sign for a children's movie when a scene evokes imagery from a horrific scene from another movie so easily! 21:06 And then Frosty kills all the kids in an avalanche, the mayor goes mad and starts strangling people that break the rules, and the town devolves into chaos and despair. ...What? Doesn't that feel like what the movie has been building up to all this time? 21:21 See? It's not just me! (This is a really disturbing cartoon.) This is why it is important to watch these movies and not just stick some random movie in to entertain your children. That and quality time with them, of course.

I swear, the designs in this movie have such an Allen Gregory vibe to it but without nearly all of the ugliness that series had. Wouldn't be surprised if it were the same designer.

What you fail to realize is that this takes place in a parallel universe. The original title was STARFISH INTO DARKNESS, which partially explains the voice.

Why does this movie look like it takes place in the same reality as the series "I got a Rocket"? I find it hillarious that the girl who doesn't want to be a Princess is voiced by Twilight Sparkle. And they ripped off the ending to "The Town that Santa forgot". This movie is as if some watched Frosty the Snowman and listened to Pink Floyds "The Wall" at the same time while high.

Or Karen sacrificed herself, causing history to erase her from everyone's minds, thus saving the Rankin Bass-verse from the evil Live Action Year Without A Santa Claus. Or something.

I always saw that chaotic opening as more a warning for how if you blindly follow the guidelines you might miss whats right in front of you; like if the kids weren't being forced to march in single file like they were in the dang army the ensuing domino effect probably wouldn't have happened..

Stephen Brown Old comment, but Danny Phantom never really had a comic book based on him. Unless you're referring to the episode of Reality Trip of when Danny gets pushed into a stand that have books of him. That was pretty much a joke, plus unlike this film who had Frosty write the story of himself in a Never-ending Story style, Danny didn't make those comics. He had become popular enough to have fans that write fanfic comics. So yeah, I'm still a DP phan so I thought I put in my two cents. lol

We there was a comic book if you watched one of the fairly odd parents episode that featured the pilot episode of crash nebula,if you looked the episode closely you see the main character crash nebula reading a comic book that has the title Danny Phantom

So, the original Frosty the Snowman Rankin/Bass cartoon had a story where Karen builds a snowman with her friends, named him Frosty, puts the iconic magic old silk hat on him (Happy Birthdaaaaaaaay!) and risking her own life going to the North Pole with Frosty with big success with Santa taking Karen home and Frosty to the North Pole. Frosty’s Winter Wonderland is not a sequel nor is Rudolph and Frosty’s Winter in July because there’s no Karen (Thanks a lot, Rankin/Bass and Warner Bros!). Frosty Returns is just a spin-off because Frosty wears a BOWTIE!!! And Karen just appears on the front cover of the comic book with a different look thus making her appearance in this UNOFFICIAL!!! (Windows Ta-Da) Must Be A Bobsheaux!

Ages ago I wrote a parody of the first verse or so of the song, called "Frosty the Golem," in which a rabbi's kids made a golem out of dirty snow... I offer the idea to any animation studio wanting to do a new take on Frosty for a Hanukkah special, but I don't think anyone would do it. Maybe that's just as well.

I remember watching this movie on Cartoon Network back in the day. Also, the broadcast that I watched was followed by that Looney Tunes Christmas Carol. This was either 2005 or 2006. This movie came out in 2005. Since Frosty Returns came out in 1995, couldn't they have brought back John Goodman as the voice of Frosty? He played Frosty in Frosty Returns.

I will admit, Pankley is drawn to look super evil, especially with that giant, creepy smile. In a better story, he would have made an amazing villain. I mean just look at 24:50. Terrifying.

The whole film would've been better if the plot were this: Frosty just wants to make the kids into better people, since he knows they'll grow up to do great things. He helps the kids become brave, independent, etc, by helping them face their fears and stand up for themselves. Cut out the 50's stereotypes and just have it be about Frosty changing the kids for the better. And like everyone has said, the mom should have been Karen as a way to tie it to the original special.

Honestly, the only reason why I recently gained a slight amount of admiration for this movie is because I found out that "As Told by Ginger" creator Emily Kapnek was behind it. She's usually a great writer, but I question just how much she really knew about the original 1969 special. And that's not the only connection "The Legend of Frosty the Snowman" has with "Ginger". If you go on the IMDb pages of both productions, you'll find out that they share a lot of voice actors, thanks to casting director Barbara Wright. For example, the guy who voices Walter in this special voiced Darren Patterson. Oh, and Jared Faber does the music for both, as well. Yeah, I know I'm a nerd.

I remember watching this when I was little and confused why they change the story of how frosty came to life and the new voice actor for frosty does sound like Patrick star from spongebob
@DiegoDiaz-rs4ej4 жыл бұрын
I need to be honest here, my whole reason for watching The Legend of Frosty the Snowman is actually because it had two of my favorite voice actors: Kath Soucie and Tom Kenny, together. The reason why I like Kath Soucie is because of a 30-minute special about The Little Engine That Could where Kath played the Star Engine, and because of a show about Sonic the Hedgehog where Kath played Sonic's love interest. And I like Tom Kenny because of SpongeBob, Eduardo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and The Ice King from Adventure Time. So when I see one of those rare projects that has both voice actors working together, it feels like a dream come true. In this project, Kath Soucie voices Tommy Tinkerton, and Tom Kenny voices his father. This feels like the most actor-on-actor time Kath and Tom have had together to me, and I love it! But does this mean I like The Legend of Frosty the Snowman as actual entertainment? That is hard to answer. I have seen the original 1969 project and even Frosty Returns as a child, but I don't consider myself an outright FAN of Frosty the Snowman. And I don't feel like denying that Bob Thomas has made multiple good points about those few parts that don't make much sense. The townspeople feel too rule-loving to be believable, I do wish Tommy had more screen time with Frosty, Frosty in particular has a couple of differences from his 1969 past-self, and how can a tidal wave possibly be made out of snow? But on the other hand, besides Kath Soucie and Tom Kenny, the other voice actors also give a good performance, and it does feel like a relief to see the townspeople engaging in more fun after all this depressing boredom. And considering it was Tommy who got the hat out of the guarding thing, I hesitate to say Tommy did "nothing important". I'm not going to tell people to go out of their way to watch this, but it still feels kind of harmless. In fact, since Frosty Returns makes no mention of Christmas at all, I don't find it farfetched to say this project is not supposed to be a Christmas project anyway.
