QUESTION OF THE REVIEW: I think we can all agree that Barbie tends to reinforce girly stereotypes but also tries to show that girls can be anything they want to be (as long as they want to be something sparkly and pink LOL.) So, tell us one thing that you do that falls in line with a stereotype (gender or otherwise) and one thing that you do that goes against a stereotype. These should be things you're happy with or proud of! I'll tell you mine to get you started. I have never been traditionally girly. As many of you know, I DESPISE the color pink. I also rarely wear dresses or makeup and, as a child, I never really played with dolls. However, one thing I'm proud of that is traditionally girly is keeping my nails done. I don't feel like me without long nails, preferably with some cool nail art designs. On the other side of the coin, I tend to be what many consider a BAD FEMINIST. I love men. I just think we should all be equal in all ways! But I refuse to fight for that equality in a way that disparages guys as a whole. SOME MEN are rotten and deserve to be disparaged but the majority of men out there are, at worst, in need of some education about women (and no one learns by someone being mean and nasty to them) and at best, they are fully on board with feminism and equality for all. Answer the question of the review in reply to this comment and yours might just be one of the ones that Bobsheaux or I read and discuss at the end of the next review. Be creative to really grab our attention! (P.S. This is not the place to argue with anyone about their answer! Anyone being ugly to someone will have their comment removed and possibly be blocked from commenting on any more Bobsheaux videos. This is a safe space for everyone. Just be kind to one another. We love you! ***Also, answers to this QOTR will be read at the end of the first review of BOBSHEAUXWEEN 2020!***)

PLEASE DO BARBIE IN THE NUTCRACKER SOON. As far as Barbie Christmas movies go, that one's the OG. And as far as Nutcracker adaptations go, it's one of the best you'll see. Plus, Tim Curry plays the Mouse King in it, which was actually his very first appearance in the franchise before Bob & Raven saw him in Three Musketeers. And I'll have you know that at least in Nutcracker, he was quite honored to be a part of it because he thought Barbie was an icon. 💖

This wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. It's bad, but not Nutcracker and the Four Realms bad! I do also really appreciate that message about not comparing someone to someone else. The creators have to know that so many little girls want things to be just like Barbie and by sending that little message maybe it will break a potentially toxic thought pattern that everything must be just like Barbie . . . and pink.

@DJtheBlack-RibbonedRose4 жыл бұрын
@jbiehlable What do you mean by that? Poor her because she shares a voice with Barbie? 😆
@DJtheBlack-RibbonedRose4 жыл бұрын
@jbiehlable Yeah, it really sucked Kelly Sheridan left after Mermaid Tale without warning. It was so distracting after hearing her as Barbie for so long to have another voice actress in her place. Thankfully, it was only a brief break and she came back for Mermaid Tale 2 and beyond. She actually didn't start playing Starlight Glimmer though until 2015, and Perfect Christmas was 2011.

@jbiehlable Yeah, I'm not sure why she stopped playing Barbie during that two-year gap. Maybe she just needed a break idk. But really though, no one plays Barbie the way she does...she gives her so much maturity and confidence.

@jbiehlable Oh for sure, it's one reason I love Kelly as Barbie...she doesn't play her into the stereotype of being a high-pitched airhead. She makes her out to be a capable heroine. Not sure how well THAT casting would go over. 😆

2:11 Motion capture often looks shitty because the actors proportions don't always match and exact movements aren't good for animation anyway, the 12 principles of animation exist for a reason. See when using motion capture what you get is a starting point. Yeah sounds weird but you can't use the direct data; you have to go in after the fact and tweek the movements and deleat unessassery points and data. Or to sum it up simply: Motion capture is a starting point for complex shit and you have to refine the animation and these animators clearly didn't.

Now that I rewatch this movie, it feels like something M Night Shyamalan would write and direct. A family is stranded in the middle of nowhere and trying to make it to the big city for Christmas when they stumble upon a random mansion in the woods and find it unusually bustling. Everything seems warm and jolly at first, but Barbie and her sisters slowly piece together that things aren’t all what they seem. Finally, they discover the barn full of presents, where the woman they met tells them there will be a ceremony where they will get a present. At the ceremony, they do nonstop caroling and holding hands around the tree until Barbie and her sisters die of hypothermia. Afterwards, the woman and the rest of the cult cut off their heads and put them in new boxes, placing them among the other presents in the barn. The cult then waits patiently for the next weary traveler. Barbie and her sisters in: Barbie, it’s cold outside
