Hi dear teacher! Once you put on your winter coat then I think there's a slim chance to see you wearing a jacket from previous video until spring comes! Sometimes people call this type of jacket " windbreaker" ! If you by any chance didn't still have your morning coffee here it is☕🥯🍌

Snowmobiling at 2 am is a kind of crazy. I hope those snowmobiles were not like I met on Lake Baikal. Those huge vehicles have a turboprop, and they make noise like an airplane. BTW, you don't, by any chance, know if the Greate Lakes freeze in the winter? For me this question is technically weird, not only because it contains a kind of double negation (that you mentioned), but also because it starts with the word "You" instead of "Don't you"
@bobsshortenglishlessons2 жыл бұрын
Once in awhile the lake to the south of us will freeze over. It is called Lake Erie. When Lake Erie freezes over we have a very cold winter with lots of snow. This usually only happens once every five or ten years. The lake to the north of me, Lake Ontario, never freezes over (at least not since 1928 I think). Even though it is further north it is much deeper so it usually stays warmer throughout the winter. 🙂⛄🍦

Are "by chance" and "by accident" equal? Can we use them interchangeably? Thanks for the lesson. It is helpful every time 🙂
@bobsshortenglishlessons2 жыл бұрын
Yes in some sentences. They can also mean different things though. I could say, "Do you, by chance, have a pen?" and I would not say, "Do you, by accident, have a pen?" The second sentence would make no sense.

Excuse me, Mr. Bob. The phrase “by any chance” doesn’t always have to be used with tag questions, does it? (See! I just used a tag question to inquire about that!😎) I mean, I’ve heard questions that go like “do you, by any chance, speak English?” Is this way of asking less polite than your way? Sorry for asking a grammar question, but you don’t mind that, do you? (Another tag question🤓)
@bobsshortenglishlessons2 жыл бұрын
It's kind of funny because we ask questions like, "Do you, by any chance, speak English?" or "You don't, by any chance, speak English?" It must be how the subject and verb pair are used that determines whether you negate it or not. English is weird! 🙂⛄🍦
