For those wanting to know why Alex is the hero in Protytpe 1 but suddenly the villain in Prototype 2: The Prototype 2 comics came out in between the Prototype 1 and 2 games and it depicts how Alex went from good guy to bad guy. Apparently the game devs expected everyone to read the comic so they kinda didn't bother showing it in the Prototype 2 game. Long story short: after the events of Prototype, Alex travels the world trying to find out where he fits in, considering he's not exactly human anymore. During his travels, he witnesses how corrupt the human race is and he basically gets disgusted and loses faith in humanity as a whole. (Tons of stuff happen in the comic, this is just a really general summary.) So Alex turns "evil" in the sense that he wants to make something better than the human race because humans have gone too far to be saved. If you think about it, he's kinda a hero but in a more Thanos way.

I’ve always thought: Alex wanted Heller to cure the virus which is why he let Heller kill him. Look at that huge tendril attack at the end that annulled most of the infected. Alex planned it all. All of it. He played the villain role on purpose. If you view the game from that perspective, Heller was basically a tool. This boss fight is amazing... Because there is pretty much a war going on while Alex Mercer and James Heller fight each other and it gets crazier and crazier... Helicopters crashing down... to everyone who was wondering why both Alex lost and was evil out of nowhere, it was meant to be a setup for the next game before activision went down. That is a doppelganger who took form shortly after mercer had figured out his true identity. A fight ensues in which the original loses, but he wakes up a good amount of time later. he goes to defeat the doppelganger, only to see it become consumed by heller. That's how the next game was supposed to go, but that game has been cancelled for whatever reason. At least you know he isn't really dead

Alex could've summoned a Goliath and Heller summon 2 Juggernauts and 4 Brawlers (once it glitched on me and did that exact thing when Heller needed to break down that door before the final boss), Devastators, Consume & Hide stealth portions (and finding one another before they generate too much health would be a great boss fight mechanic as well as a co-op/vs mode feature in future installments (if they ever make one)), and more mixing and matching of different arm powers, as well as throwing things and open traversal in the environment during the boss. This game had so much potential. But instead it improved on some mechanics from P1, but actually worsened itself on some aspects the first game did better.

The Super Soldiers were good, but we needed more. Drones, robotic enemies, a mech boss (Maybe 2, one Juggernaut sized, one Goliath sized). A more powerful version of P1's first boss with some Prototype powers (Imagine Cross with the ability to disguise himself and use the Claws and Bio-Bomb). Ah, damn you, Radical. Crash of the Titans, Crash Mind Over Mutant and Prototype. Such *_creative(!!!)_* games and yet there was so much unused potential. I miss you guys so much...

Bread Cat Deal with it guys. My theory is when Alex or Heller become stronger, the one getting stronger is the virus inside them. When that happen, their humanity slowly vanished. The only thing that keeps them at bay is their dying will. At first, Alex's humanity is still strong because he had a strong will to uncover the truth behind Blacklight, but after his desire fulfilled (find the truth) the virus got the best of him, especially after realizing the real Alex is dead, only hollow body with the virus inside. Heller, having strong will to save his daughter, resisted the virus and controlled it. After saving his daughter, who know what might happen. Maybe eventually he will become like Alex, consumed by the virus, because he no longer have any will. Take note of Alex/Zeus's word to Dana, "beyond life and death". That's what I'm talking about.

The problem with both of your responses are that they don't make sense at all. What Usman said has almost zero relevance to anything considering the big reveal is that you were playing as the virus for the whole game, and still wanted to prevent new York from being nuked. Zues acknowledged he isn't really Alex, but he still tried to create an outcome new York could recover from. He even goes on to say Alex Mercer was a terrible human for releasing the virus in the first place. So suddenly having Zues do exactly that in the second game makes absolutely zero sense. And it only gets worse as the game progresses and he actually starts monologing like a stereotypical villain. All his character is gone. He's a gross strawman masquerading as the character we played as and got to know in the first game.

it actually makes sense that Alex was turned into a villain. I remember a cutscene in Prototype 1 where he's talking to Cross (who was the Supreme Hunter in disguise at the time). After killing several Leader Hunters to rescue Dana, the creature asks Alex about the likelihood of existing other "leaders" still loose in the city, to which Alex replies: "No, they are all dead. Except me." with a malicious tone. Considering the human Alex died and the virus took over his body, maybe this is a "side effect" of him becoming the virus: an urge to infect. Or it could simply be his sociopathic personality. of course, the comics tell a different story, in which Alex simply grew weary with what's wrong with humanity, but still...

The thing is that this the virus. There was no alex mercer in prototype 1. The virus was already sentient enough to become a human, it just had the capability to do something more. By prototype 1, it was just remembering what happened. If you give a human with the virus' power, its likely they will also do this. By prototype 2, the virus still considered itself to be a human albeit it just thinks he is an evolved or improved human.

Donald Norris Well i will try to summarize it as best I can. After the events of Prototype 1, Mercer just wanted to leave New York, so he decides to travel the world, and on his journey he killed many mass murderers and drug lords and other criminals, etc. After a while he goes and rents a cabin up north from a girl named Autumn and her dad Flint, and they are nice people but Flint's former business partner keeps coming over to stir up trouble and take Flint's land. Alex, who was falling in love with Autumn and wanted to protect her and her father, then goes to infiltrate Zurich's base and consumes him. But after absorbing his memories he learns that Zurich and Flint were involved with tons of murders and other bad stuff, and he rushes back to the cabin to kill Flint and protect Autumn. After killing him he then went to Autumn and asked her if she would be willing to leave with him, and then he went to find a stash of the money he accumulated, only to find Autumn had already stolen it. She then shot him in the head, but he healed instantly and consumed her. After seeing how the woman he loved didn't care about anyone but herself he decided that alongside all of the terrible things he had seen over his travels humanity was terrible and didn't deserve to exist.

Mercer is acting as someone superior (teacher) and even says "I taught you well" and Heller replied "You didn't teach me shit", Heller is right, he didn't teach him anything besides consuming someone for their memories, Heller even says "Now I know you're just trying to make me mad" meaning that all of that could just be a way of provocation. As much as people want to believe Mercer had a bigger plan by letting Heller consume him, he might've just done all of that to simply piss Heller off and throw him off balance in order to kill him. On top of that his boss quotes could be interpreted as guidelines for the player on how to win this fight, there are no text tips only verbal tips. Until Prototype 3 (if it ever comes out) we will never know and even then it depends in what direction they are gonna take the new game, It's not gonna be same thought process that Radnet had in 2012 so we might never know.

It's obvious Mercer wanted Heller to win. Mercer didn't even bother to use his armor, among other abilities. Alex was holding back. That, and if Heller did manage to win and consume Alex, then Heller would know everything that Alex knows. About Blackwatch, about the virus, about the Evolved. On top of all this, Alex had consumed countless intelligent people, and those people are now apart of Heller. It was part of Alex Mercer's plan to share his knowledge with Heller. Heller has now become a new Alex Mercer, but with a different perspective. Oh, and for the record, Alex Mercer isn't dead. His arms were sliced clean off, and Mercer has a regenerative ability, right? Heller did consume Alex, but not all of him. Alex's arms are probably still laying around somewhere waiting for some DNA to come along and help them regrow. As I said, this is all apart of Alex Mercer's plan. He wouldn't willing give up his life unless he had something planned.

Aside from the fight itself being generally great and the amazing music, I think my favourite thing about this boss fight is how whenever one of them lands a significant blow on the other, they start talking shit to each other. Each in their own different way that showcases the differences in their character. Alex is fairly courteous, but also unbearably smug and slightly psychotic. James on the other hand is super crude, loud and a little cocky whenever he gets the upper hand.

what would have been a better story for this game is that Alex is still the protagonist, trying to stop gentek and blackwatch. And when he said its a bioweapons test, that could have been part of the plot, Alex putting a stop to it all just like he did the 1st game. All these people fighting over heller vs mercer. Heller had something to fight for, a reason to keep going, his daughter. Kinda like how kratos had atreus but not to the same extent. Mercer on the other hand, had no human connection to the world, only fighting to fufill a plan rather than fighting with emotion. Battle IQ doesnt matter because whoever you consume, you gain their memories. Heller had definitely consumed enough evolved and blackwatch, assuming you complete everything before game completion, so that gets rid of battle iq being in play, same goes for regular IQ. James has his daughter to fight for. While mercer only has his grand scheme. And, just because someone might have more experience or is stronger, it doesnt mean they cant be bested in combat. Sure, mercer had more experience, and perhaps strength im not sure, but just raw strength isnt all it takes to win. You need finesse and skill, which im sure mercer had. But heller is ex military you bet your ass he knows strategy. Mercer is a former scientist, he wouldnt have any knowledge of strategy outside the possible blackwatch and gentek he consumed. Hellers been through it first hand. Im open to the theory that mercer let heller consume him to wipe the virus in the biggest plot twist ever lmao Yea dont get mad about my opinion its just how i, personally, can piece things together. Im sure you all have plenty of reasons why Alex would fuck up heller, and i bet some of you would have reasons why heller would rip alex a new one.
