Ya like illiterate said. They mo-capped everyone for the parts when they play and overlayed a 2d mesh over the 3d model that they used and added back in the speed blurs like on the drumsticks and such to remove some of the animatronic feel you get from doing the computer animations. Theres an interview done with the creators of it where they talked about some of what they did. They also talked about how they were basically gave free reign over animation and they enjoyed that for all the times that bocchi goes bocchi.
