I rode the entire route on Monday July 8 from Little Hocking to Zanesville, loved every minute of it, such varied, beautiful scenery, and was a challenging ride that can be done just fine if you pay attention and ride smart. There are so many rollers entering blind curves, some of which are off camber. And like the vlogger noted, lots of gravel. The road is narrow, no shoulder and drops off so if you go off, you're in big trouble. Just before Chesterhill, I came across a Goldwing that went over a steep embankment on a hard, blind left. His arms were a bloody mess but his dog survived and he was in good spirits. A Harley guy had already stopped to help him and just as I got there, retrieval vehicle just arrived. Riders in Ohio are great. They wave, they don't ride like maniacs (like we all do in CA) and every time I stopped by the side of the road, to get a drink of water or a quick bite, never did a motorcyclist pass without asking if I was ok. I knew they were locals because most weren't wearing helmets. That took some getting used to. I did one short part of one the nine routes sans helmet and gear (which I never do), and it was friggin awesome! It's worth the trip to beautiful southeastern Ohio, ride safe!

@@BoDean52 spotty but I learned to anticipate where to look for it - almost always in front of paths leading to people's homes. I rented a first Gen 1000 Vstrom for my ride. It was ok, the clutch-chatter issue was annoying but man, I missed being on my own bikes - Triumph Rocket 3 and Yamaha Super Tenere. I was, however, blessed with great weather while I was there. No rain, hot and humid a bit and one day of glorious cloud cover that kept me cool. I recommend spending lots of time on the roads in and around the Wayne National Forest / Nellsonville, Lake Hope and definitely take the Southern Dip to Gallipolis. That town is gorgeous and one I massively preferred over Pomeroy.

The absolute coolest thing are huge expanse of roads in and around Wayne that are set aside exclusively for ADV riders! Next time I'm there, I'm going to ride off-road exclusively, I didn't know this existed until I was just there. I talked to some locals who said the options on these trials are endless!

I just rode this from the north 8/29 on my '14 vfr solo. Roughly at the 1/2way point in a very tight chicane I see what appears to be a full size Kenworth pulling an empty long flatbed. He was coming at me hot, way too fast for a big rig that had no biz on here. Fortunately I was on the "low" inside edge of my right hander, as his trailer dragged way into my lane, me looking at framework, axles and tires. It happened so fast I just came out of it stunned, yet the next maneuver is on you so fast. This guy no doubt went on his way covering both lanes throughout and WILL kill someone shortly. I rate it higher than the dragon for sheer technical level and also obv it's longevity. That being said, this was just a bucket list thing I probably will never repeat

Looking at the Ohio map there are several like roads all thru the area that big trucks could use as shortcuts. As the 555 gets more publicized, the danger will escalate. Unfortunately many will have to die before it is stopped. Money talks

The triple nickel is the most amazing 63 miles of the greatest curves left right turns that are really freaky when you get to the top of the hill you think you're going left are you going to run off the road the dragon's tail not even close to the excitement I've ridden that thing so many times it gets old. From what I saw to me it is a novice road. Winding country road. That said you always need to be careful and ride your own ride. I think it was more about the experience of being there with friends and enjoying the road. If I’m with my friends experiencing at great ride just makes it better. When I ride solo around great roads its not as Rememberable. Can’t wait to make so new memories with you guys soon.

Awe man we really liked the 555. It gives you everything...open sweepers, tight curves, hump backs, good rode. I would say its an all level road...If a beginner want to ride it, I would say try to ride it with a more experience rider. Let the experience rider lead so they can set the pace for the new rider.

I been on 129 Tail of The Dragon and its windy and fun, road quality if good save for a couple turns. Also been on the Triple NIckel 555 its also a quality road but yeah watch the gravel. They do run a sweeper truck and I have seen it. Comparing the two: both worth the trip. Both get crotch rocket and bagger group rides. Its smooth, and you run about 50-55 mph. Lots of surprises it does have a pretty technical section as well so do not get too complacent with all the gentle hills and turns! The Triple Nickel Diner could do more to promote itself as a destination like they do at Deals Gap, nothing wrong with the food. If you listen to the guys talking in this video they do give good commentary about the road. You can take your girl and run softer or if by yourself or with the guys you get hot and you will be challenged. It's all fun right?! I suggest staying at the Stockport Mill Inn (quaint old mill on the river converted to an Inn, serve an outstanding buffet on the weekends) and ride the area over a couple or three days including Athens area and the Windy 9. The town of Athens provides a map with 9 winding routes that originate in Athens. Windy 9 Link: www.windy9.com/ Stockport Mill Inn Link: www.stockportmill.com/

It looks like a beautiful road. It still reminds me of the “Driftless Region” of Wisconsin. I just got back from a 4 day motorcycle camping trip in that area of Wisconsin with my best buddy. My two sons and I rode it today for the first time. I've ridden the Dragon twice so I was wondering about the comparison. Both are great rides. The main differences are speed and distance. The Dragon is 11 miles with a 30 MPH speed limit. The Nickle is 60 miles with a 55 MPH limit in most areas. The Dragon has a lot of tight curves close together whereas the Nickle's are more sweeping and more straights. But it's the speed that makes the two alike and challenging. I highly recommend both.
