Back in the 80s when I was a young guy, we couldn’t afford new bikes so we rode bikes built in the 60s, maybe early 70s and learned to spin our own wrenches. I never made the leap to fancier new bikes. I have a ‘99 Road King classic and a factory service manual. Works fine for me.

I have a 2012 Road King Classic, that for me has the perfect amount of upgrades that I wanted in a motorcycle, with out all the bling and the bull. It's a 103 6 speed, with Brembo 4 piston ABS brakes, throttle by wire, electronic cruise control and a security system. The bike has always been very well maintained. Kept in a heated garage, and treated with love. The bike now has 121,000 plus miles on it, and the motor has never been touched. It still runs very strong, has zero oil leaks and uses zero oil. It has had 6 sets of tires, about due for the 7th, and 4 sets of brakes, and I upgraded the shifter linkage. THATS IT. It has a removable windshield, removable luggage rack, matching removable Tour Pack and rear, crash bar bags. I have plenty of storage if I need it, but the bike can still look very stripped down and simple. I wouldn't be afraid to jump on it and go ANYWHERE. I also get compliments on how beautiful and classic looking it is, which is the main reason that I love the bike. For me it was the perfect motorcycle. I bought it used for a whopping great price of $5,500 dollars. The low book value on it when I bought it was $12,000 dollars. So I knew I got a pretty sweet deal. The bike was and still is, in VERY good condition. A couple of rock chips, that's it.

Love my ‘07 but if someone wants to ride/buy new a 2022 Road King isn’t gonna be that much different. That’s the beauty of classic style. My first Road King was a ‘99 and if you put it next to a 2022 it’s gonna look pretty much the same. I really like the absence of technology and the simplicity. I had a 2017 Triumph Trophy SE because I thought sport tourers were the way to go. They are awesome machines and very capable. However, for me anyway, it was too polished, had too much protection from the elements, had too many bells and whistles. I missed simplicity, I missed a twin, I missed all sorts of things zen with a basic motorcycle. (I also have a 1979 FLH which I'm currently rebuilding.) I stumbled across a 2009 RK standard (FLHR) and it was exactly what I was looking for in a motorcycle. I bought it from the original owner and the machine had an awesome story behind it. In any case, I've been making it my own and I couldn't be happier with what it is. Fuel injected, cruise control, fully customizable with removable components, 6-speed, ABS, and an awesome updated frame. Road Kings are a hidden gem and mine definitely helps me relax and become one with the universe.

Many people are scared of the King and buy Heritage. Heritage is fine but you are getting less bike for the same money. Road king has better lean angle, better suspension, touring frame which equals more comfortable ride. Rubber mounted engine etc.

@sportyonetaubert59232 жыл бұрын
Looked hard at the Heritage. The biggest plus was it is 100lbs lighter. But the King carries 1 gallon more gas and has way WAY better bags. That extra weight melts away on the hyway and gives it more stability in wind...especially around 18 wheeler traffic. Oh and it has better brakes, another front disc and they are linked. So glad I got the King but if you don't travel far the Heritage may be all you need.

I really loved that bike, but a guy kept bugging me; and bugging me for years to sell it to him every time I saw him at the local bar. I put a “crazy number” on it, and one night he came over and met my “crazy number” in cash 💰. I walked into the bar where my wife was sitting, and told her to hurry and finish her beer. I told her I had the sold the Road King, and we are stopping at the Harley Shop on the way home for a New Bike 😂👍💯. Bought my 2014 RK as a second bike. It's easier for the wife to climb aboard. Sitting in my garage with my coffee this morning,looking at my 68 Charger and my BMW GS Adventure. Best bike ever engineered IMO and of course my RK. ... I too have come to the conclusion that my Road King will never be sold. The feeling on that bike is unexplainable.

What oil are you using in your RK? I just bought a 96 and was told that if I used synthetic that I'd start getting leaks. Not sure if that's true. What say you? P.S. I haven't seen your newer videos, but if you go down, you wish you weren't wearing fingerless gloves. Ask my buddy that hit a deer. We had a hard time getting the gravel out of his fingers after that. Just sayin.
@BoDean528 ай бұрын
Hey Cowboy, you are totally right on the fingerless and I think it every time I put them on. Oh and as far as the oil, I do NOT put Synthetic in the King.

Thanks for watching and huge congratulations. It’s funny you commented on this older video. I just did another video kind of around the same topic on this bike in the past week or so that’ll come out in a couple weeks. Thanks for watching.

@@BoDean52 what I've noticed is that like the softail line you sit in the bike vs on it like the RK.. Or at least that's how my Dyna is set up.. Also the RK cuts thru the wind a lot more than the Dyna with a quarter shield vs no shield on the RK.

I remember approximately 17 years ago seeing an old friend pulling up to the curb in his glistening Black, 2003, 100-Year Anniversary, Road King, as I was relaxed drinking my espresso on Main Street in downtown Duvall, WA. After greeting each other and catching up, as I admired his ride I asked him about its ride comfort, handling, etc., I was convinced someday I must own a Road King. I recently acquired a 2003, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, Road King Classic, from the original owner who really took good care of it. My dream was to always own a Road King Classic and the bonus was to find a well maintained 100 year anniversary model! Thanks for the great video and comment from a fellow rider about his happiness with the 2003 Road King. Dreams can come true.
