Harley-Davidson Road King is the king of anything you want to do with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The Road King can be a tourer, a cruiser, a wild custom, a daily rider, you can dress it up or down any way you please. Road King spans many years with multiple engine options depending on what year you choose. There is a Harley-Davidson Road King to fit any budget and any engine preference. Road King is the most cost effective way to get a Harley-Davidson on the touring platform with an Evo, Twin Cam or Milwaukee 8 in any and every variation you can imagine!

@@Pounder6407 They are nice bikes for sure. Lighter weight, but still have the touring frame. No fairing weight to deal with. A windshield for rain days and you can pop it off or on in a minute or two. You can add a sound system if you like. Put speaker lids on the saddle bags. Or just listen to the music of the wind and engine. A cell phone for GPS. A cup holder for your favorite road beverage and you’re golden. I like to keep things as simple as possible. The Road King is a bare bones touring bike. In my opinion, it’s the best touring bike in the Harley line up.

took my chromed out road king for a ride last week. multiple people who were walking and driving in cars gave me nods and thumbs up. people like to see a work of art on the road. it makes their day. later an obviously frustrated harley rider on a way too loud, blacked out batwing bike came up behind me and started revving his engine like a jerk. i'd bet my last dollar not one person gave that guy a thumbs up that day

Great video covering the venerable Road King and its history. The Harley Davidson Road King is one of the most elegant, stylish and archetypical Harley Davidson motorcycles ever produced and forever etched in HD's rich history of nostalgic motorcycle designs. The Road King is the personification of a Harley Davidson icon. Road King stands supreme and has no equal. Those select riders who own one are indeed privileged. I have a 2003 Road King Classic, 100-Year Anniversary Edition, with the Screaming Eagle engine upgrade from an 88 V-Twin to a 95 done by Harley Davidson after the bike was purchased new. The instant producing torque and exhaust sound is exhilarating. Some of my recent mods include adding the Ultra Cool Oil Cooler which has turned out to be a great choice. My engine's never been happier. Another mod was adding the Power Commander 6 Tuner and my Dyno Tune shows my horsepower rated at 88+ and my torque rated at 99+. Which suits me for my 03' Road King Classic. My Road King with its original anniversary Two-Tone Sterling Silver and Vivid Black paint colors stands out. The commemorative medallions seen throughout this ride's sculpted design adds to its nostalgia, mystique, and exclusivity.

I bought a used RK Police bike out of NJ in 2001. I loved that bike, and I would say it was the best riding bike I have ever owned. I could ride all day and only stop for gas and something to eat. Of course being a police bike it was made for city streets or interstates and she handled both with ease. I miss the smooth ride it gave even on bad roads with potholes. I do miss it sometimes, but I went for the cruiser bikes after I sold it. If I ever wanted another touring bike, without hesitation it would be another RK!

It's yours to ride the way you want, as many or few a miles you want. Pay no attention to what other people think on this subject. I've ridden for nearly 50 years, about 20,000 miles a year. After getting hit by a deer last year and breaking a pile of bones, I had to decide if I would quit riding. I resolved the question when I decided to cut way back on my miles per year. I figure the less mikes I ride, the better my chances. I no longer ride as my main source of transportation after 50 years of doing so, but I still ride. Nobody else answers for my actions except me.

I enjoyed customizing the 98 from engine all the way up and now that I bought the 2024 after the warranty is up I will be customizing the motor then. I have owned every touring bike that Harley makes I like them all but the road king will always be number one to me. PS down the road I may just get a 2011.

After, I sold it for a 2022 with the Milwaukee 8 engine no mods all stock and still love it like it was the 2006. Engine was strong with some Andrews TW 37 cams S.E. heads, etc. I really liked that bike,in a lot of ways more so than my own 2003 anniversary silver/black Electra Glide. This is what Harley did since the 20s. Offer plain jane FL/FLH bike so a customer could add exactly what he wants as time and finances allow. Not create a new 9 letter $35k model with a bunch of stuff ya don't need or want. As far as the M-M fuel injecton, dealers won't service it, parts are very scarce. I pulled the M-M FI from my 1997 Roadking FLHPi and added a rejetted Keihin CV-40, EV-27 cam, Dyna 2001 ignition and V&H Tru-Duals. 😁

Yes, the RK standard was a great option for a well equipped all-around Harley touring bike. Now that it's gone, it's like the RK has been discontinued. Imo. The special is still a very cool bike, but it's not like a real RK to me. No windshield and many of the extras are missing. It's as if Harley said, "Let's get rid of all the extras, black it out, and put a 114 in it and charge more money for less bike.""

Love my ‘05 Road King. Best bike I’ve ever had. Im riding it to Vancouver BC from San Diego next month. Hit the Grand Canyon a while back. I’d ride it to all 50 states and through the provinces of Canada if I had the time.

I had two RKs, first one was an 08 with 48000 mls on it then I found another 08 with less than 8000 mls on it and it had 16” bars on it and it was a pleasure to ride very comfortable.

I love my 2010 FLHP Road King cop bike. It was one year old when I bought it and she's still running strong. Over the years I've de-copped it and upgraded to SE compensator and stage 1.

bought a 04 Road King last year, and added the hydraulic chain tensioner from the Screaming Eagle, just last week the compensator was making a noise, so I opened it up to see the nut loose and a stripped bolt on the casing. red lock tight re-torqued it and tapped the bolt with a helicoil. we will see what happens, at least till the fall. other than that I love the King. Back in the 80's it was my BMW all the way, but not anymore, I have learned as I get older that with time things do get stiff in the bones and need to be taken care of, and so does the King, it's not a negative just routine check-up.

I absolutely love the Road King! It was my dream bike until I bought my '95 Electra Glide Classic. I still want one though, but since I still have my 883 Sportster, my wife said I am not allowed to have 3 bikes. LOL!!! If I eventually get one, I would strip off the bags and protectors, put a solo seat on it, upgrade the suspension, and ride it as a naked bike. It performs great, looks great, and will last forever! BTW would love to see you do a video on the Rushmore project. Keep bringin' the good stuff!!!

I've had my eye on Road Kings for years. I finally purchased a used 2020 Road King Special and love it. I would have been happy with a 2014+ classic with hard bags. Installed windshield and wind deflectors for winter and long trips and strip it down for the warm weather.

Just got a 2020 Road King Silver Pine n Spruce. Only seen a hand full since I got it. Got it at a Honda dealership last year only had 3200 miles on it. Rode it to Myrtle Beach from Delaware (500 miles). Great comfortable ride. Just love it.

Talk about a versatile platform to build on: Started with a stock 2018 Road King and added V&H power dual head pipes, neighbor hater slipons, Screamin Eagle intake, S&S 475 cam, cam plate, oil pump, Trask tranny air vent, oil temp dipstick, Jim’s force flow cylinder head fan, Jagg oil cooler fan, air intake breather bypass, tour pack, TPMS, and LED lights everywhere. Wrapped it up with a custom dynotune. The Road King is an excellent choice if you’re a modification type guy

I've wanted a Road King since I started riding. I love crushing miles, hate fairings, and don't like a lot of "extras". Just give me a windshield and saddlebags. That's it. No radio, GPS, cup-holder, etc. I rode about 80k miles on my Heritage and I've ridden Road King on a couple test rides, so I know that's the bike for me. If only I weren't a loser who can't afford a vehicle. 😄😖

Love my Road King, the year was not what i wanted, but what I could afford, but after riding it I love my Road King. It is a 2002 FLHRI Twin 88 it only a 5 speed but was surprised how well it does for 5 speed, does not whine when scooting down the interstate at 85 or 90, but i tend to ride back roads too and it plenty nimble enough to handle our curvy foot hills roads of Eastern KY. I did replace the cam chain tensionerers and had gaskets and seals replaced while in the process.

I had a 2007 RK and loved it. Only couple issue I had with it, one was the exhaust cross over pipe. This was one of the years where it was up high behind the rear cylinder hard mounted. Know for cracking. Dealership wanted over $200 for it, so I went with a V&H true dual head pipe. Gave it a tune and it ran great. Hated getting rid of it. Other issue was the spoked (or wire lace) wheels. Rear one had some come loose and caused the wobble. Anyways got rid of it because it stripped teeth off of belt. Probably due to issue with the rear wheel.

Finally 😂🤣😂. I'd sell the ol lady before I sold my Evo roadking or my Twinkie road king. Mm system wasn't awful but most didn't know how to tune/tweak it. But Delphi was the way to go accept for carb was best. 2002 best year had Delphi, timken and hot forged crank. As for the wobble thats how you build character, just like riding an ironhead at 100 downhill with suicide clutch 😂🤣😂🤣. Happy 4th and be safe....

I have a Y2K RCI with the TC88 & MM intake. Paid $10k in 2003 with 7k miles on it. It’s an excellent sled, everything you need and nothing you don’t. I do most of my own wrenching on it, but kept in touch with the main wrench (his name is KnuckleDragger) who uncrated, tuned, & stage 1’ed this bike. He’s been my source all these years. Cam idlers replaced @ 40k miles & they needed it done. Replaced with stock as it was all I could afford at the time. I was ready with the credit card if I had needed to replace the cams, & had put on a Power Commander instead of playing tune-up-to-2 new cams with the MM intake. Never touched the Power Commander & the MM still purrs. Besides brakes, batteries, motor mounts, plugs, and head breather flaps this bike don’t owe me a dime !!! The Y2K was one of the only years with air-ride front & rear, and making the switch between 1-up and 2-up is a breeze. It rolls down the road like a Caddy in a FL Hwy !!! I switch saddles between a HD Sundowner & a Corbin solo and a HD Ultra 2-up when I’m with the ol lady, and add a bitchback for safety, comfort, and slip-on luggage. LOVE THE KING !!!

I'm still riding my '94 Rd King. I bought it new in oct '93. I did the top end last winter at 84K miles. Prior to that work the rocker covers had never been off. The crappy cam bearing held up. I have 3 Evo powered bikes. I have no need for anything newer.

I don't own a HD, but was looking hard at them a couple years ago and the Road King Special is what I would buy. The sales guys were pushing a bit too hard to get me to buy anything, so I put some upgrades on my metric bike. I still like the Road King, but that bad dealer experience was a huge turn off.

Gixxerfoo!!! I just bought my first Road King (2009) for my birthday on May 27th! I have always wanted one because I think it is the ultimate touring bike. I own two Springers a 1999 and a 2000 Heritage Springer. There’s just something about a black and chrome Road Kung that gets me excited! I love the fuel injection, the looks, the handling and the massive saddlebags as they came with ones that are extended. I don’t like windshields or fairings so thanks for covering the Road King!!!

I have a 2016 Kawasaki Versys 1000 along with my 2022 Heritage. The Versys has a fixed fairing and windshield. I’m used to that cause I’ve always wanted the bike since it was released in Europe in what, 2011 or 2012. I ride the Heritage exclusively now and love the ability to see everything in front of me. Have sat on Road Glides and Street Glides at the dealer but can’t see as much in close that I can on the Heritage or the Kawasaki. (I sit higher on the Kawasaki). The Road King definitely has the visibility advantage just like my Heritage. I like the Road King a lot, but not willing to give up or add to the Heritage at this time 😮 I would also like you to touch on the Rushmore bikes.

I have exactly the Electra Glide Sport model, that you show in the video, same painting and logo. Got it in 1994 because it was much cheaper than the Road King, which was the new model. I love it! Not less good as the Road King, just the instruments are more... technical... not as vintage as those of the Road King. Still my No. 1 tourer!
