Hi quick question, do the ST TDCI and the GHIA X 2.2 TDCI take the same drive shaft? I've got a Ghia X 2.2 TDCI and the drive shaft I ordered is too short compared to the one fitted. Which drive shaft did you purchase and could you tell.me where you got it and the model number? Thanks

just a quick one but I have got a horrible grating noise coming from the front nearside area of my st , it sounds like metallic rubbing but brakes look good. it does it in any gear but if I freewheel the car it doesn't make the noise which would suggest clutch/gearbox but I put the car on a four pillar lift so I could drive it in the air while a mechanic was underneath looking but it didn't make the noise so we're a bit baffled. Have you ever come across anything similar. the car has only done 77000 miles and has just had full service inc gearbox oil

Same here just about to replace the inner boot on my x type 2.2 tdi. This video is brilliant. I presume you used an impact gun to release the 32mm shaft nut? I just bent my 36' T-bar trying to get the bugger off!

Changing driveshaft now. Do spines go into gearbox anyway ? Or does it have to line up with a certain one ? So spines can go in any other spines anyway ?

Hi, another great video. If I suspected the drivers side carrier bearing was noisy would I need to remove the complete driveshaft to check it. Could I just remove the bearing carrier support to gain access?

Great video, I am going to replace the drive shaft and according to Haynes repair manual you should loosen the subframe to avoid damaging the rear hydro-bush when removing the lower arm balljoint from the steering knuckle. Do you think it is necessary on a car with high mileage?

Would this make a similar sound as a bad bearing but with only getting louder with an increased speed, and not changing with turning. Literally changed the bearings a month ago. The CV shaft seemed very sturdy and I had a mechanic friend look at it, but he only had time to inspect it, not actually remove it or disassemble it. (FOCUS 2012 MK3)

Excellent video! I'm about to replace the offside drive shaft in my Mondeo. I understand it's a little bit harder, but here's hoping! My car sounds fine turning left but awful rubbing/vibrating when turning right. Does this sound like a faulty drive shaft in your opinion? Thanks!
@bodgitandleggitgarage6 жыл бұрын
Asa Granger hi mate it's very difficult to say as you can have numerous problems with the same part I would get your hand underneath it and see if you can move it up and down and side to side the vibration Park can happen but the Rubbing part I'm not really sure just be sure you got this problem before you replace anything

Hiya buddy, I have had to do a a similar job on my Mondeo, a Mk2. I had to replace wishbones as well as OS driveshaft, so I also replaced NS driveshaft. I had real trouble engaging the cup end into the diff, is there a nack to doing it? And if it doesn’t engage, can you gentle encourage it? I don’t have a ramp / lift to work under, only axle stands

hi mate you need to make sure you get it completely straight before it goes in side the gearbox also make sure there is no damage to the splines or bits caught in between them

Hi great video, any advise on the following would be brill. I have issues with my focus st225 mk2 2006, loud grinding and rumbling noise when driven hard with lots of vibration through pedals, steering wobble and pulls to the left quite bad, infact ive pushed better Tesco trolleys. New parts so far: 4 wheel bearings, 4 discs, pads all round, both front control arms, both outer and inner track rod ends. I know the left driveshaft is knackered so I am replacing both sides with new ones, my concern is the diff bearing or any gearbox damage. The car drives nice if driven gently with no problems like harsh gear change the rumbling and grinding noise comes and goes. the noise is present aswell if put in neutral while moving, noise is really bad when under heavy and hard braking, would the faulty driveshaft cause these noises? If the diff bearing is shot is it easier to replace the whole gearbox or just the bearing? Any info would be much appreciated.

Robert Pallett unfortunately it's very difficult for me to give you any proper answer without seeing the car but it does sound drive train related so you need to get your gifts checked out gearbox possibly clutch bearings like I said unfortunately very difficult for me to say as I cannot see the car

How do you change the intermediate bearing on 3.0 mondeo ?

That's not Syntrans FE 75, by any chance? I got some of that for my six-speed Mondy; the 1/2 synchro gives the odd stiff change.

Hi there, hope your well. I have a question and it might sound silly but I can't understand what is making my car vibrate and shake at around 60-70mph (fiesta mk6 1.6 tdci 2 doors) jacked the car up took wheels off started car and put in 1st gear brakes seem fine pads too everything else is solid and fresh only issue I think might be drive shaft it does have some play in it going into gearbox, when it's not running when I grab drive shaft and turn it can hear clicking noise, I can't understand what could be the issue. Thanks
@bodgitandleggitgarage6 жыл бұрын
Dag D hi mate you need to check your tyres make sure they're ok also could be a balance issue with your wheels
@darrenfrost57754 жыл бұрын
you needed to check the spider on the inside of the shaft , these can split , so when you go to drive slips on the shaft and makes the awful noise you were describing , reason I know , is I have had it happen ,

how do I check the front wheel bearings on either side. there is no movement in the hub. however when I rotate the disk when the car is jacked up and in neutral it's very stiff
@bodgitandleggitgarage8 жыл бұрын
yeah I put it in neutral Jack the wheel up see if there's any movement up and down and side to side and also spin the wheel by hand as fast as you can to hear any rumbling because sometimes there is no movement in the wheel bearing but you can hear that it's gone
@mumtazzafar15768 жыл бұрын

@mumtazzafar15768 жыл бұрын
hi how are you? I have a question. I hope you advise me which I will be very grateful. I have an audi a3 1.9tdi 2005 reg. since I have bought this car the steering seems to be hard. it's not rock hard but when I drive it feels like the drive shafts on either side is clamped. recently I changed the front brakes on my car. when I was changing front brake pads I just couldn't move the wheel hub left or right with my hand although I left the ignition on for free movement. it is the case on both front wheels. I also suspect that the wheel bearings are bad because when I try to rotate the wheel hub by holding the disc it's takes efforts. yesterday I went under the car to check what was wrong as when I drive over bump there is a metal to metal clunking noise. upon removing the underneath tray one of the bushing from subframe is deteriorated and it also looked wet with oil. I could not see the steering rack as my jack is not big enough. but my guess is that the steering rack is probably leaking if that is the can the steering rack be repaired by installing new rubbers or bushing etc. or discount I need a reconditioned one. ? as I mentioned the front wheels are impossible to move with hands while the car is in neutral and jacked up. I would like to know whether do I need to replace wheel bearing on either side or just the steering rack or all of them. I will be grateful for your advice
@bodgitandleggitgarage8 жыл бұрын
i can remember if you got steering rack or are electric steering either way I would personally be putting a reconditioned unit in if they are leaking hope this helps any more questions feel free to ask thank you
@mumtazzafar15768 жыл бұрын
Why is that when I try to move the front wheels they don't move until I turn the wheels from inside by the steering. When I try to rotate the disk it's takes efforts to move them while the car is even in neutral. The outer side front on the tyres are getting kind of rounded off.
@bodgitandleggitgarage8 жыл бұрын
+Mumtaz Zafar unfortunate hard to say without really seeing the car but if it's an electric steering pump you will not be able to move it until the engine is running
