Lifeboat Mona - Guido Plüschke - Bodhrán, Shruti Box - Irish Scottish Folk

"Lifeboat Mona" is a poignant song by Peggy Seeger that has been interpreted not only by the Dubliners, but also by numerous other artists. The tragic background story tells of the sinking of the Mona, a Watson-class lifeboat stationed in Broughty Ferry, Scotland.
The fateful 8 December 1959 marks the day the Mona was called to the rescue as the North Carr lighthouse boat was adrift in St Andrews Bay. The lighthouse boat was able to cast off its emergency anchor and the six crew members were rescued that morning with the help of a helicopter. However, on the way to the stricken vessel, the lifeboat Mona capsized and tragically all eight crew members lost their lives. The names of these brave sailors were Ronald Grant, George Smith, Alexander Gall, John Grieve, George Watson, James Ferrier, John T. Grieve and David Anderson.
The video for "Lifeboat Mona" was recorded in September 2023 as part of a living room concert. In addition to my vocals, I accompany the piece with the Irish frame drum bodhrán and the Indian shruti box.

"Lifeboat Mona" ist ein ergreifender Song von Peggy Seeger, der nicht nur von den Dubliners, sondern auch von zahlreichen anderen Künstler:innen interpretiert wurde. Die tragische Hintergrundgeschichte erzählt vom Untergang der Mona, einem Seenotrettungsschiff der Watson-Klasse, das in Broughty Ferry, Schottland, stationiert war.
Der schicksalhafte 8. Dezember 1959 markiert den Tag, an dem die Mona zu Hilfe gerufen wurde, da das North Carr Leuchtturmboot in der St. Andrews Bucht trieb. Das Leuchtturmboot konnte seinen Notanker auswerfen, und die sechs Besatzungsmitglieder wurden am Morgen mit Hilfe eines Hubschraubers gerettet. Auf dem Weg zum havarierten Schiff kenterte jedoch das Rettungsboot Mona, und tragischerweise verloren alle acht Besatzungsmitglieder ihr Leben. Die Namen dieser tapferen Seeleute waren Ronald Grant, George Smith, Alexander Gall, John Grieve, George Watson, James Ferrier, John T. Grieve und David Anderson.
Das Video zu "Lifeboat Mona" wurde im September 2023 im Rahmen eines Wohnzimmerkonzertes aufgenommen. Neben meinem Gesang begleite ich das Stück mit der irischen Rahmentrommel Bodhrán und der indischen Shruti Box.
