So, this is hopefully a bit of a tonal shift from previous videos. As you may guess, the game is supposed to take place in more than one area. A total of three "worlds" I guess you could call them, with their own distinct look, inhabitants and rules. As well as rulers. This is the second one, and as you can see it's a little less simplistic than the first. Part of the reason I'm making this game is as a way to practice modeling, as well as trying to work against my crippling perfectionism by actually USING said models despite how amateurish they may be. And now I finally got to do quite a bit of that. Compared to the three or four models you've seen thus far, this is quite a big leap. I'm personally pretty happy with how it came out, too. ...My lacking experience is blatant though. If you were to peek behind the scenes, this is horrid in how messy the setup is. I definitely have a lot left to learn about modeling, level building and performance management... Speaking of which, there's still a bit of lag despite my efforts to decrease it by closing down every other program and doing some optimization for the game that I had neglected up until now. I think it's either due to my OBS settings, the fact that I'm showing the game through the Unity editor as opposed to making a proper build, or just my computer being poopy. Whichever, I hope it's not too distracting. Oh, and the fact that I'm doing this in the Unity editor is also the reason for the low video quality. Even the fullscreen mode isn't proper fullscreen, so I gotta zoom in the footage a little. I COULD just make a build so it looks better, but I'm too lazy to do that every time I post one of these. Anyway, hopefully this mixes things up for those of you who delightfully enough already like to theorize about the themes of the game. The previous videos had everyone guessing depression, but what I got in store should hopefully diversify things. I'm not saying it's NOT related to that, just that I'm too much of an overachiever and too indecisive to center a game around just one concept.

“Body Building” I never expected such a deep meaning from a pun. The whole concept of making and mass producing bodies seems to hint towards some themes of perfectionism and lack of individuality in exchange for perfection. Of course, we’ll see where this takes us because I’m sure there’s going to be a lot more to see.

If I had to describe a way the atmosphere feels, I'd say otherworldly. The sound design is very good and the tone with the red color scheme is low-key malevolent. I like how there's a lot of dynamic shit going on too with things like the conveyor belt. Like you've just stepped into an alien evil factory.
@WillcraftAnimations5 жыл бұрын
I'm glad the sound design is appreciated. I went out of my way with that, because good sound adds so much to the ambiance. Lots of tracking down appropriate sound effects and tweaking them to my liking... I'm also not at all good at sound stuff. It's never been much of an interest, it's just something I gotta do since I'm doing everything on my own, so it's a good thing I'm apparently not terrible at it despite it not at all being a strength of mine.

Well dang, it's really cool to see everything you worked on come together like that. I think most people would've noted the models already. (And the set dressing, the room design is really well done.) But what I really like is the sound design. The constant hum off machinery in the background no matter what, the boop sound of the buttons, the gears turning and the liquid sound. The fact there are two buttons, one the player clearly can barely reach.... Nice touch. Gives a lot to speculate about for what that second bigger higher up button would be..

Looks very creepy and interesting. I like the atmosphere. Personally, I find it much more satisfying towards my "perfectionism" whenever I make things from scratch--even when I make things that look half-assed compared to premade assets. The feeling of being able to say, "I made everything" is incredible. Keep at it!

How does animation actually work? Like, I know how you model things, but how do you make them move in game?
@WillcraftAnimations5 жыл бұрын
Unity has a built-in animation tool. It's not the greatest, but it lets me see exactly how the animations will look in-game and where everything is in relation to everything else, so I use it almost exclusively.
@jacobb.91815 жыл бұрын
Willcraft i mean my question more literally. Like, do you click and drag and then take a picture, like stop motion animation? Or do you type "Rotate Object 30 Degrees Clockwise" or something else? Does my question make sense?
@WillcraftAnimations5 жыл бұрын
Ah, I see. I think looking at any tutorial with Blender, Maya, the Unity animator or any number of tools would better explain it, but I'll try to do it anyway and if it doesn't make any sense, you can look for videos explaining it. Basically, you use keyframes. Say I have a timeline that goes from, I don't know, 0 seconds to 3 seconds. I then add a keyframe at the start, change the model as I please, maybe rotating the limbs and whatever, and then that'll be its starting pose. Then I add another keyframe wherever I want it to move. How many keyframes can be added in the span of one second varies, but in the Unity animator it's 60. So if I wanted to be SUPER-detailed I could add a total of 180 keyframes onto this 3-second animation, but that'd be insane. The animation will transition from one keyframe to another to the best of its ability, so there's no need. A very simple illustration or what I'm trying to communicate here would be this. www.script-tutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/fimg.png So wherever there's supposed to be a change in the model, I add a keyframe and change the model as I want, and then it will blend from the state of the previous keyframe to the next. Exactly how it blends you can normally adjust too. Whether the transition should be smooth, linear, happen instantly, etc. Normally, keyframes are also unique to the properties that they affect, so I could have keyframes that go from 0 to 2 seconds changing the rotation, and keyframes from 0 to 1 that change the position. Even though they start at the same point, they don't have to stop at the same point or transition in the same way. The handy thing about the Unity animator is that I can also animate properties unique to it, like the colour of objects or the strength of lights. For instance, in this video the animation for the conveyor belt that stops and start also affects the sound the conveyor belt emits, making it quiet down to silence when it stops and start playing louder again when it starts. That is probably a very confusing explanation, but again, if I did a shoddy job of it I'm sure you can find answers elsewhere.
