you can most proably maintain your new SETTLING-point as Eric says in the video but it wont be without hormonal consequences.

I guess the next logical question is how do I change my functional set point range. Because some of us have been obese forever until now and I'd hate to have to stay at higher bodyfat percentages to make gains and be happy. (Ive been overweight for most of my life but would like to lean bulk)
@xd-yf5gq4 жыл бұрын
Check out the Mike Matthews video regarding changing your body fat settling point. Exercise and maintaining at your new body fat for a long period of time after you diet is mainly how you move to a new set point. More exercise and activity = More likely your body will want to stay lean perhaps because being lighter allows your body to move much more. Also, the longer period of time that you maintain at your new body fat, the more likely your body will fight to stay at that new norm. And still if after employing those tactics you still find it hard to get to your desired leanness, you might want to check out cryolipolysis to destroy the fat cells permanently. More fat cells = body needs to eat more to feel satisfied because the fat cells need to be full enough to increase leptin to reduce hunger. More fat cells = More food needed to not feel hungry = Higher Body Fat Set Point, given the same amount of LBM. So more fat cells would mean a higher natural set point. I lowered my set point but it was only through rounds of dieting and maintenance at a new bf level and then dieting and maintenance. Somewhat like the Matador diet study. Anyhow, moving to a new set point should be possible, check out David Goggins. That guy used to be really big but now he's lean year round, so changing your set point is most probably possible.

@@xd-yf5gq I'm looking for a video or advice (since your above statement was on point) on at what body fat you should and at what bf you do not need to be worried about losing lbm... Basically I'm about 26% bf trying to diet as aggressive as I can handle ( with diet breaks) and would like to know, based on science, at what bf I need to be concerned about losing lbm?

Interesting, specially when you say you have to get above 10-12% to make optimal size gains. Where does this come from? Usually it's been said that when you are leaner the body grows muscle tissue better due to improved insulin sentivity and less chronic inflamation. Is this a drug thing?

Is the body fat set point in terms of fat mass/number of fat cells or bf%? Instinctively I'd say mass which would mean if you add LBM your set point in terms of % would decrease.. Am I correct?
@edd96328 жыл бұрын
The bodyfat setpoint is in terms of %, so theoretically adding lean muscle without fat would decrease the% value. However adding lean mass without fat is literally impossible so you have to bulk up (add lean mass and fat) and then cut down (try to maintain muscle mass whilst losing fat) to decrease your body fat % :)

Ive been obsessed about this topic for years and I havent found any convincing evidence that set-point can be lowered.It can get higher though(good reason to not get too fat).its kinda sad but its probably true,this video makes me feel like I maybe need to get a bit fatter cause my libido isnt exactly raging(its not dead but not raging either).Lyle Mcdonald has excellent books and articles on his bodyrecomposition-website(google it) about this.

Do you think periods of abstaining from food - 'fasting' and then short term overfeeding (whilst in a NET calorie deficit for a given amount of time) would help contribute to better cognitive and athletic function at a lower BF%?

right now im 192 and about 18% bodyfat, 6'0" tall... I figure if i get down to 160 i will be about 8% bodyfat... if i got down that low and started eating at maintenance would the lower testosterone that i have from being such low bodyfat eventually just cause me to re-comp to a higher bodyfat percentage while maintaining 160lbs? or would i just stay around 8% bodyfat as long as i ate maintenance and kept lifting weights.

My Current Body fat is 3.2% - 3.6%.. I really don't try that hard to stay that low, maybe it's naturally low? Anyways, I'm having a lot of trouble staying satiated. I'm trying to gain muscle and im eating in a surplus most of the time unless i'm on a rest day. But maybe it's not enough? Any help or response or just a simple conversation about this would be GREATLY Appreciated. I really need some guidance. Btw: Only Been lifting for about a year, 5"7 and 148 lbs. (5 lbs of fat)
