Hey everyone! Hope you’re enjoying this analysis 😊. Here’s an extra note that I filmed but then cut out to make the video briefer. There’s a lot of speculation in the comments as to why Meghan’s mannerisms and cadence are the way they are. I think acting plays a big part of it but much more than that, in episode 2 we see her mother being interviewed and then going back to the city they lived in and it’s plain to see that that is EXACTLY where she gets her mannerisms. It’s the exact same. Her mom is very animated with her face and when talking about their phone call when Meghan told her about Harry, she starts whispering, at some point they both even make a comment about their old yard at the same time the exact same way. The resemblance in mannerisms is uncanny. I’ll also add that there is nothing inherently wrong with these mannerisms. They simply rub certain people the wrong way (as many of you commented). It’s totally possible that some people are perfectly fine with it or even find it engaging but for whatever reason some people intuitively respond negatively to it, this is why we avoid it on stage. as mentioned in the video, I know this is a very polarizing topic for a lot of people (I explain why in the video) but let's try and keep the discussions polite and respectful please. Everybody's personal opinion is valid and I would love the conversations in the comments to reflect the open minded attitude that we value in this community. Thanks ❤

This is the most objective, straightforward video I've seen on the documentary, and I love it! 👍 I can't speak for others, but the reason I'm uncomfortable listening to her more exaggerated stories is because she seems to exude "exclusivity." She doesn't often use sentences that invite listeners to experience what she did. When she was talking about the elephant stuff, I didn't feel as if she was wishing the audience was with her when that happened. Instead, I felt as if she was saying that she was sorry something like that had never happened to her audience. I think this feeling of being excluded from the topic of conversation is what puts many people off.

Thank you for pointing that out. I did not know that happened, I like it. I think in the case of the dinner though, there wouldn't be that though as she would have been briefed before, so she should have known that, but the situation was intimate and 'informal' - but still. In that situation I think she wanted to play the 'American actress sweetheart' bit, and how cool and trendy she thinks she is; when in fact she is just rude and uncouth. How sad. I would never wear ripped Jeans and barefoot during any dinner date with friends nor family. I may do so however, after a tiring or shopping day with a close friend and go home for a quick/rushed casual bite. That was not the case here. Total ego and preemptive projection. I learned an awful lot, about the many truly beneficial international roles that The Royal Family does and has played in the world and the racial diversity that already exists within the family, from Lady Colin Campbell. I was already starting to dislike Meghan after the woke wedding. Whether the RF were trying to respect and/or appease Meghan’s racial chip on her shoulder, or were performing the now obligatory white apology for all sins across all time, I resented the fact that one individual was joining the British Royal Family and its entire culture and yet it was the latter who had to adapt, accommodate and virtue signal. The black pastor, black gospel choir, black musicians, and a whole entourage of black celebrities whom Meghan didn’t know personally; all of it smacked of race activism and a clear announcement that, _”I don’t respect your family. In fact, I hate it. My role is to help Harry escape it and make a public statement that I will not bend or compromise one inch to your white, racist, archaic, colonialist institution.”_ If someone told me that this was an operation to undermine the royal family, I wouldn’t dismiss it. @@lynnfinly Yeah exactly. I mean we could accept their story that she was just oblivious and the very protective Harry did absolutely nothing to prepare her or to keep her from making mistakes, (they DO love to play victim) or we could think logically and realize that Harry is VERY protective of her and would have done everything possible to make sure she didn't embarass herself. And as we know she was offered her own aide to help her acclimate to their customs and she refused the help. (Which proves she just didn't care to respect their traditions.) I also find it really suspect when they were talking about how Meghan kept "accidentally" breaking the royal rules/traditions such as wearing her hair in a bun in public, as well as not wearing panty hose. There's a reason that never happened with Kate or any other woman who's married into the family. And that's that they're all aware of the rules. For Meghan to pretend she didn't know once again defies belief. Even HARRY would know these things. And knowing she likely had disdain for tradition and any "rule" that dictated what women could wear (especially knowing shes a vocal liberal feminist) it seems much more likely the rule breaking was very purposeful. First if you read Grace Kelly’s autobiography, you’ll see that she didn’t have an easy entrance into the Monaco Royal family. It was something she had to Work at. She’s a woman of color whether she wants to admit it or not and I think she got a taste of that. She finally saw herself as a black woman in America. I’m a Jewish black woman and my mother always told me the world would look at my skin color first before they looked at my character. Megan did not realize that people would look at her skin color first before they look at her character that they would assign a character based on her skin color. I think that a lot of the things said because I read them I’m Canadian and I read a lot of the things being harsh at her and as a Jewish black woman in Canada/America , I’m gonna tell you right now there was a lot of racist comments towards her so much so tell if it was me and her position I would’ve broke. My family bloodline is directly connected to HRH, and many Royal customs and procedures have overlapped in our behaviours. This includes directives on how to greet others, what to wear, and frankly - any and all types of considerations in place in any given moment. That being said, we are still far removed from that world. Thus, it is extremely difficult for me to believe that Prince Harry (nor his team) did not brief Meghan on protocol for a visit. Everything has to be meticulously organized, right down to the silverware or angle of a serving tray. I did not watch this documentary, nor do I have an opinion of her, but my gut says that a lot of this is fabricated, or swept up in a self victimization narrative. As others have said, the mockery and contempt for family traditions is.. off-putting 🚩. I think every person entering into marriage has to make concessions and efforts to preserve some consistency in tradition (toxicity aside). Being a good host, is about making others feel comfortable, particularly when you have little authority in a situation that could make or break your union, or make for a strained relationship with said guests in the future. It feels like Harry has taken a codependent stance and reframed it as "diplomacy" in his marriage, while Meghan attempts to reframe her obstinacy as being innocent or naive, and this is what irked me the most. Meghan is trying to co-opt the role of Diana by taking on her early life narrative of "not knowing". I believe she is mirroring this to Harry and this is why he is hooked. @therealz360z7 Being a prisoner and being married to a royal family are very different things. Royal life is more like a life of a diplomat, not a prisoner. If it's normal life that they wanted they could just be non-working royals. Look how Prince Edward and his wife Sophie lived until they decided to become working royals. They did normal jobs and lived like normal people. So, I very much doubt it is "finding freedom" that H&M actually wanted

Can you imagine if MM were mocking the deep bow that Japanese children give their elders? If you were being introduced to ANYONE important to your spouse, you would make an effort to dress appropriately and if you presented in the opposite way, this appears intentionally manipulative. That she intentionally wore ripped jeans etc…sounds like she intended to show them that she is either innocent of everything they represent (unlikely) or wanted to show that she is unphased by their higher status. That she thought so much about this in the first place, but then reiterated this situation to the camera (to the world) shows a level of manipulative behaviour that is so beyond and it is this It is degree of manipulative behaviour that is annoying.

Respecting other cultures is very important to preserve harmony. I love Japanese culture and I like the way they show respect to others. Many regions in South East Asia, we kiss the hands of our elders and always let our elders go first. When we meet our in laws or future in laws, we always welcome them with respect. Hugging is a no-no if one doesn't know the other. We keep our distance first until we feel that person is a genuine person. This woman called Meghan made history by being disrespectful and mocking other people's tradition, worst part, her own husband's family. This man whose name is Harry, seems like a wierdo, comes from a highly respectable family - British Monarchy. By accepting this woman who walks all over his culture and tradition is beyond anyone's comprehension. I'm British and I would just like to say thank you for your impartial coverage on this. In the interests of full disclosure I have to say that when they first got together I was 100% team Meghan. I genuinely thought that (as much as I love our RF), she was the breath of fresh air that it needed to bring it up-to-date. I was overjoyed when they both initially teamed up with Catherine and William to become what we then called the new ''fab 4''. When they made the break from the U.K I was sad but I thought, 'hey, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt'. I was disappointed but could see how they may want their privacy and just be a private family unit together, especially seeing as though they said that was what they both craved so badly, *privacy*. I guess when the tables started to really turn for me was the Oprah interview. Having always been a people watcher. I watched that interview over and over again and I felt the beginnings of a pit inside my stomach. Something was very ''off' about the whole interview. I'm sad to say that my opinion of them both has only gotten worse as time has gone on. I'm not sure what their end game is, their master plan so-to-speak but one thing I feel almost certain of, Harry has absolutely burned every last bridge of hope that existed between himself and his family and that is extremely sad. I also believe the reason she speaks, as you say, like she’s speaking to children, is because it’s part of her dramatization of the story she is playing her role in. She knew EXACTLY what role she was going to play with Harry. Not only was MM briefed on royal protocol, she was given a written 30-point dossier on the subject, had a team of 14 ladies in waiting and the ear of H’s personal assistant, ELF. MM, herself, has said that Sarah Ferguson taught her how to curtsey before meeting the Queen, AND she had curtsied on Suits, many years before. Not only that, but she could have googled “How to curtsey” at any point in time & got step-by-step instructions or even a video. If you’re meeting your new boyfriend’s family for the 1st time, any normal person would at least try to make a good impression… put something nice on & maybe ask him if you look ok, let alone if your new boyfriend is a prince & you’re meeting the royal family. And I think its exactly what you said about her speaking to the audience like we're children because I remember she had done an interview with 'Variety' and they had asked her a simple question which was "what is your favourite television show" or something along those lines and it was so long and drawn out that it took two minutes for her to actually answer the question. To me, she uses too many descriptions for no reason and when people do that I feel like they're speaking to me like I can't comprehend what they're saying unless they dumb it down, or like I am a child. We were definitely given a written protocol and what to do and what not to do when meeting a royal. I'm not buying most of whatever she's trying to sell. She wore ripped jeans and was barefoot when she met Prince William and Princess Kate? She's lying, or she has a rather blatant way of showing utter contempt toward her future husband's family, the customs that are important to them, just everything. I personally think it's a lie. It never happened. Prince Harry knows this very well but has bought into her lies. She repeats them. She believes that everyone agrees that their customs are ridiculous. Whether that is true or not really isn't the point. If I were dating a garbage man, I would have had more respect for his family than to be dressed the way she was. Did they show up three hours early before she was able to get dressed? It never happened.

All I know that as an African American female, if I started dating a man that I know has family ties with Royalty such as Harry. I would find out everything I could to know what to expect, what I should wear, how I should act, how to talk, when to talk. I would do absolutely everything possible to show respect to his family. Especially, if I'm going to be his wife someday. To me that's just common sense. She was a fool to come there with her own agenda, and present herself as the "IT" girl, and do like she wants, when they are Royalty for Pete's sake. Now, that doesn't make me dislike her at all. I truly believe that they love each other, and I'm happy for them. Yet when she went to his family from the very beginning and wasn't accepted as she thought she should, it was her dam fault. So, her next move was to get Harry as far away from his family as possible, making him believe that she was the victim in all of that. Now Harry is estranged from his family, not that he was as close as he would have wanted to be, but he dam sure ain't close now. I love your videos and watch them regularly. Just want to share a little of my experience in working with the Brits as an American. Aside from the cultural differences, body language and gesturing, the biggest surprise to me is that we don't speak the same language. We speak American they speak English. It took me a long time to realize it and then to learn English enough so that when I left the room I had a fair amount of confidence that we both came away with the same understanding of what was said and what was intended. I didn't know that there was a significant difference until I started to facilitate meetings between people from my company and people from British companies. I found that I had started to translate what was being said during these meetings. It was a learning process for me, and it took time to understand what was happening. When I analyzed it, I realized that I did it when I felt uncomfortable in the meeting. Further, after I translated everyone relaxed including me. It was a strange process because I was interrupting. But I noticed that in time, the interruptions were welcomed. When I interrupted people relaxed even before I said anything. There are a multitude of differences and subtleties most of which I was and am not aware of. This was all self-taught. There was no one to teach me; and there was no Internet tondonresearch. There are many things I would love to say, including why Meghan may have walked in with no coaching on how to behave. Out of all of them, the most important and key factor is that we literally do not speak the same language. The minute we walk into the same room, peer to peer, we are not on the same page. The killer is that because so many things are the same, we underestimate the size of the rift.

Maybe it's more an North American thing, I don't know really. But I feel like unless you are trying to impress someone that doing this is not or more appropriately should not be expected. It's a nice gesture and show that you care a lot which is good. But on the other side. If it was expected of you to act this way then in my mind it's wrong. You went above and beyond. This isn't or shouldn't be what is the normal state of things. I mean there can be exceptions, I would say. If you happen to be of a certain trend very edgy. Punk, Emo, Goth whatever something that most the less-open-minded or very traditional family may find offense to. then it shows a great sense of empathy, awareness, etiquette and decorum for you to take the additional steps of appearing or making an effort to conform to their image of what is acceptable I guess. But why would it be expected that she can't be a bit more dramatic when she is in front of cameras. Most people I know are slightly different if they are at work, or with their significant other, with family or friends. ANd her things about being overly dramatic and eccentric with this feeling we have of her trying to give us the impression that she is relatable. Well there isn't really anything more human than that. Most of us seek companionship and a sense of community. Most of us feel an urge to feel wanted, appreciated and want to belong. As long as she isn't commiting any crime, why do people care so much about Meghan Markle. As long as they are happy together it should be the only thing that people care about.

When I'm inviting my boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend over for a home-cooked meal, I am going to dress how I feel comfortable. In my twenties....inviting over people in my peer group. That's normal for 20-somethings to wear jeans and be barefoot at home.

I think they misjudged what the documentary would do. I always thought most articles were one sided, and exaggerated, and I never judged them by those accounts. However, the documentary does not put them in a good light at all, and sort of backs up the media's previous accounts. It actually makes me dislike them, her as she comes off as really phoney, and him for playing along with it. The main reason is her insistence that she was not prepared for the royal meetings. That just doesn't make sense that Harry would do that. I look forward to the next videos.
@rsent4026 Жыл бұрын
I think one of the issues I have, which Spidey addressed, is that when most of us met the family of our SO for the first time, we wanted to make a good impression, to dress correctly and greet appropriately- regardless of their social status. And if it's a different culture, you would try to be sensitive to that especially. The fact that she never gave that a thought and that Harry didn't bother to help her just seems bizarre even BEFORE you add royalty to it. Even with casual friends from different parts of the US in college, you'd get a warning "Oh, she's a hugger" so you could be prepared. Harry could have warned his brother even. It's like Harry set them all up for failure.

Ok but if she was meeting anyone else then nothing she did was rude. He is just her boyfriend to her at the time, so when his brother & sister in law come over for dinner at their place of course she’s going to be in whatever clothes she’s comfortable in. She said she was cooking right? If you went over to your brothers house and his girl was in jeans barefoot cooking it would just be sweet or cute or at least just normal. I don’t see how it’s a big deal lol.

I'm not a fan of Meghan but I think she was trying to be casual - as she had been with Harry. She probably thought very famous people prefer to be treated like everyone else so she acted accordingly, thinking they would find her natural, down to earth and refreshing.

I think she starts with “I’m not going to say I’m comfortable…” because she wants everyone to know she’s the victim here. This being a princess lark wasn’t all it was cracked up to be in her head. She probably thought it was all hanging out with friends, drinking champagne, eating caviar on tiny toast triangles & getting her glam on. Then it turned out there was work involved that she didn’t want to do, she didn’t want to confine herself to royal protocol & she wasn’t really allowed to talk about whatever leftie nonsense popped into her head (because the royal family is supposed to be non-partisan), which she thought was mean & convinced H of that, too. So now she HAS to do this documentary even though it’s going to hurt her (even though, in reality, the victimhood is all in her head). She has to act the victim ALL the time. She’s like a child who discovers reality isn’t the same as the imagined version & acts all butt-hurt because of it.

I see H telling "half truths" as I used to do (for example: "he bought me a car" because he chose it, but I paid for it). Shaking your head in this context, makes perfect sense. Men that are gaslighted are often told that they need to protect their family, and using his mother as a parallel gives me chills...

I very much agree with you that Meghan definitely does like the attention and I have a feeling - based on nothing in particular - that Harry knows she does. I think Meghan likes the idea of becoming a princess, because it would in some ways be a lifelong show that would be well watched. And when she figured out that being a British princess is mostly staying in the shadows and not drawing attention to yourself in favour of the institution's image and the head of state, she was disappointed. It wasn't as much about her as she had hoped. And then she started finding ways to make it about her again. But I say this more from a psychological perspective than a behavioural analysis perspective and it's more of a hunch than a real theory. I would bet some money on it, though...

Wow, you nailed it! I think this was the missing puzzle piece for me in trying to understand how Meghan comes across. Particularly when you talked about how her exaggerated form of communication and expression is similar to how people talk to kids. I know someone who is very animated in her expression. She is a kindergarten teacher and embodies joie de vivre, but it lands very differently. She has a natural openness and curiosity to her and she naturally utilizes it in how she Interacts with the world but most of all, she uses it to make connections with other people and put them at ease. There is also a vulnerability in how she puts herself out there. Her body language is loose and carefree. Also of these things add up to her behavior coming across as warm and genuine. Whereas for Meghan, her behavior comes across as calculated and self-serving. Despite her animation, she’s actually very stiff. Not loose and fun like she wants to portray when she talks about ripped jeans, being barefoot, and giving out hugs. She has given every indication that if she does not like something you’ve said or done that she will judge you for it and make her displeasure known to you. She’s not using her animated behaviors to connect with others. She doesn’t bring people together, she assumes the worst in people, scolds them, writes them off, and causes division. She is also not in this animated, talking to kids mode all the time. She leans into this solely when she’s making excuses for herself. And she shows no vulnerability in doing so in part because she never admits she did anything wrong or could have done anything better. She doesn’t suggest that perhaps she contributed to the awkward encounter by being presumptuous and boundary-crossing while meeting William and Kate. No, instead she casts herself as genuine and natural and them as stiff, cold, and the ones who are performing. She doesn’t show that she learned from the experience and tried to make a better connection next time. Furthermore, her communication style when she’s not trying to do self-repair and make excuses for herself is very haughty and self-important. Like she thinks everything she says is of the utmost important and ground-breaking and that people should hang on every word even when she’s saying something basic, obvious, trite, or surface level. She doesn’t seem to realize that she doesn’t actually have a deep grasp on the issues she tries to talk about and that her interest and command of the subject matter are superficial. As you said, it gives the impression that she loves the attention and thinks it should always be focused on her, but doesn’t want to own this. I really appreciate your objective analysis and the balance you are striking. With Meghan, the blind hate about inconsequential things can be just as annoying as the supplication.

I'm from Sweden and living in the US so not only did I grow up in a country with a monarchy but I've spoken about our royalty and stuff with Americans and I've found that very many that I've spoken to can't relate to the deep feelings we have for the long tradition of having a royal family and seeing the same faces for so many decades of our lives since in the US presidents come and go every 4-8 years so the attachment isn't relatable. Some I've spoken to have almost seen the idea of a royal family as kind of a caricature of what they see in movies and she does give that vibe like she 1. Doesn't understand the deep feelings and attachments the British general public has and 2. Treat it with theatrics, not respect. She doesn't irk me as much as she would have if I hadn't met similar people many times on this topic but I do wish she would feel more respectful to the culture difference and less like an American tourist geeking out at something she saw on TV which is the vibe I get. Because Sweden and UK are so close to each other I grew up with the royal family being on TV a lot and I remember grieving when Di died because I loved her so much even though I was only 11 at the time and I along with many feel very protective over the brothers. Imagine in comparison that it was Jackie instead of JFK that died that day and those children kept growing up in the spotlight without their mother that everybody loved. People would be protective over Jackies children. That being said I agree with Harry and I don't want her life to be at risk from gawking or bullying either and I do want their kids to grow up more safely. As much as I wish she could come off as more respectful to the culture and tradition I don't fault her either for not knowing and feeling awkward and out of place. I just hope she is a good wife and mother behind closed doors.
