Another thing to note, and it is clearer at the end, is that Johaug gets over the poles and pushes first with her upper body : abdos, shoulders rather than with her arms. Only when she's pushed with her upper body do her arms come into play. This is much more powerful then trying to push with your arms alone.

Stick out the non-skating leg more to counterbalance.
