A good car builder puts every panel, bracket, arm onto the body to ensure the fitment is perfect before painting and final assembly. A good Engine builder puts the entire engine together twice to ensure on the first time that the parts are correctly matched , non-defective and working in harmony with each other before taking the whole engine apart again ,to clean and assemble for the final time.

Maybe a nerdy type question but do you and PPG ever talk of WFT and DFT? Only ask as there is alot of product going on this beautiful build and I often think about the fit up and how close the tolerances must be when you fabricate. Is this allowed for so as to give a say 1/4mm leeway? Sorry if it seems an over board question mate.

No at all, I work on 5.5mm gaps in steel with an expected 4.5 on fitup after the paint process.

Wow Howard, its really come together beautifully. The way all the new pieces are integrated into the the floorpan and the mods in the engine bay, rear end to allow for the new tech is just beautiful. I've really enjoyed the series so far, I've got an XB Coupe myself and people don't like to hear "They were a bit shit out of the factory" But it's true :-) I want to take mine to Targa Tasmania in 2 years but I'll need to put my bigboy pants on and fix a few of the chassis issues they have before then, but it's going to be satisfying tying the B pillars together with a neat rollcage, joining the front and rear chassis, doing something about the floppy front end e.t.c. e.t.c. I've learned a lot from this series so far, thanks and cant wait to see it all come together! Might swing in on my way through and say "Pretty please get these Fking doors sitting right sir!" :-D

Wasnt being a smart a.., it was a how long is a piece of string kind of comment. There is no definitive answer as there are too many variables . Take the smoty winner this year, great car, alot of work and a fine result, however this build is just years ahead. That's not taking anything away from the winner, but experience, patience and of course money will mostly always yield a far superior finish.

It’s a shame you didn’t paint the engine bay the same colour as the car. But i guess it’s personal choice, being a painter myself i have say mate you’re off your head with the attention to detail. Only somebody can do this to there own car, you can never find or pay anyone to do it.
