I remember this......BTW I was a contestant on the original Showoffs when I first got to LA. I went home a loser but I got yelled at by Dick Gautier...because I couldn't guess CORNCOB PIPE.

Boy that theme music sure got around, didn't it? First TKO, now here, and finally on the air with Illinois Instant Riches

Based on the Buzzr promo, there are at least two pilots of this. One has Elaine Joyce and Marcia Wallace on the ladies' team and Bill Kirchenbauer and Richard Simmons on the men's team (which will air next month). This pilot has Jacklyn Zeman instead of Elaine Joyce on the ladies' team.

Bill, you played the game excellently. Your charade for "Caviar" was fantastic!

I love that theme song. It sounds like Illinois Instant Riches.

If it was taped for ABC, more likely they would have used the Family Feud/Showoffs SFX

The opening is good that I think that we should see the full thing.

This pilot, BTW, was intended for ABC, and the last known pilot done by Mark Goodson before he passed on 2 years later. Tape date: October 11, 1990 at CBS Television City, though shot for ABC. Probably intended to replace Match Game.
@jaywilliams244811 жыл бұрын
I think this game show should have sold to ABC as a companion to Match Game '90 which would have gotten Mark Goodson out of the noon slot and dumped the Home Show and gave noon back to the affiliates. But,the negative is that the hour of Body Talk and Match Game '90 would have been up against The Price Is Right on CBS.

I also think someone should post the entire pilot episode of Body Talk. I would to see it for myself.

Theme tune was also used on Bonus Bonanza in Massachusetts, by the way.

It's good to see that this theme didn't go to waste, and that it did end up getting used later on for IIR.
@therealbrentrolland11 жыл бұрын
Recognize the theme song? It's the same theme that was used a few years later on "Illinois Instant Riches," an Illinois-based lottery game show. Additional irony: IIR was produced by Mark Goodson's son, Jonathan. Thank you for this post, Kookah!

They were not erroneous. This was simply a different pilot. Elaine appears in another one they recorded the day before or after.

The first two rounds were not as the Pilot Light describes. In the first part, a celeb from each team came up. One got the choice of two words, leaving the other to the opposing team. Whichever team got their word fastest won $100. This continued in pairs until each celebrity got to choose once. The second round was a 5-word speed round for each team at $100/word.

I wonder if anybody knows if Body Talk used the standard CBS game show sound effects (TPiR, NYSI, Child's Play, PYL, Body Language) even though it was taped for ABC.

They should try these charade shows again

it could have been tried for syndication or cable. Michael Brockman joined Goodson productions in 1991 and it could have been good for either of those
@andrewschroy636811 жыл бұрын
I know. Brotakur already mentioned that.

Ok Greg, here we go. In the 3rd round, it was the celebrities giving to their contestant partner. Each team would send up one celebrity, and both were shown a word. One of the celebs would bid a time (Name That Tune style) they could do the word in. The other celeb could either choose to beat it, in which case they'd have to do the word in one second less, or challenge the other celeb to do it. If the celeb gets his or her partner to guess the word in the time bid, they won the round.

Well, they had to fill the full 30 minutes, but yeah, the lion's share of the scoring was in the 3rd round.

If not, the other team won. The first round was worth $300 and went up $100 each time. The first team to $2,000 (including money won in earlier rounds) won the game and played the bonus. Did that make sense?
@SP84Fanatic11 жыл бұрын
The Game Show Pilot Light erroneously listed Elaine Joyce instead of Jacklyn Zeman as one of the celebrities here. I do like that in Showoffs fashion, one team wore red shirts while the others wore blue ones. This was either intended to replace Match Game or become another game show on ABC's daytime lineup. The bonus game was, according to the Game Show Pilot Light, awful to watch.

I sure hope you didn't do to that contestant what Dick did to you. Anyway, it's good seeing you on FB, Bill. I read on the Game Show Pilot Light that the bonus game was a train wreck, but what intrigues me is the 3rd round. Something about a reverse auction and a progressive jackpot starting at $100. Would you like to elaborate?

In the bonus game, 10 members of the studio audience come on stage and THEY act out the words while the team guesses. Each correct word was worth $100, and if the team guessed 7 before time ran out the contestant won the always catchy total of $7,000. Although the idea is horrible, I must say the audience members in this pilot did quite well.
@LogoMan777711 жыл бұрын
So the first word was $300, then $400, then $500, and so on. It does make sense, but then why have the first 2 rounds (with those longish charades) to begin with?

+Greg Palmer I watched the "Body Language pilot", then the "Body Language" that made it to air, then the "Body Talk" pilot that aired on BUZZR; "Body Talk" favored more its 70's predecessor: "Showoffs" It would have been interesting had "Body Language" kept the pilot theme song. The one thing BL should have kept from the pilot was the computerized puzzle board.

Why does this look like a very bad knockoff of Body Language on a cheap, ugly Showoffs knockout set?
