Thank you for sharing Kit & Olivia. I have for a number of years now been interested in seeing more of the often discussed monkey gym over in the forums.

It was a magical place, and we do miss that about the ANU. So, it's now time to bring it back in the new on-line world!

I've been doing hot yoga for nearly a year and see from this I've been doing the plank wrong. Didn't know you have to push your upper back toward the ceiling utilising your core. I've always maintained a straight back.

The way you have been doing it is not wrong; it is only that the way we demonstrate is what will strengthen you the most (because many additional muscles must be activated to make this shape compared to a flat plank, and this is why gymnasts do them like this). But in time, you'll get strong enough to be able to hold any spinal shape, from hyperextended to fully flexed-and that is true core strength.

This is brutal. I followed along 1/3 of the way in and could do no more. Admire the endurance of these students. Does it matter if fingers face forward or backward when in the reverse plank?

Definitely not; it's like the planche in this regard: hand alignment is your choice.
