@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
Glad I could help. As an apprentice, I feel the biggest skill you can develop is research. Nothing improves your skills and knowledge then following that passion for piercing down as many rabbit holes as possible. Glad I could help. As far a views, we are slowly steadily though constantly posting and focusing on positive, educational and I hope entertaining videos. I started making these videos in much the way my website grew. Trying to have a conversation with my clients and answering common questions. Instead of trying to give a clear answer over and over to clients, I found sending them a link to a well thought out blog more effective and consistent. It comes from the belief that a majority of my job as a piercer is to educate my clients. At the source of most problems that come up during tge piercing procedure and healing cone from the client not clearly understanding what is needed. Mainly because someone didn't take the time to explain it to them. If a few videos on KZbin and blogs on my site help, then I feel like I've done my part. Plus I come from a generation of piercers where sharing information regardless of our affiliations was the norm. I stand in the shoulders of a lot of great people that vent over backwards to share their knowledge.

I'm only passing on the knowledge that was passed on to me by a number of incredible people. Just like them I want the art to grow and evolve and the best way to do that is sharing knowledge.

@morgangrey83504 жыл бұрын
I've found this series really helpful. I think this one would have benefited from photos, as it can be tricky for folks like me who aren't good at visualizing things. Maybe if you have clients who would give permission for their ears/piercings to be photographed, it would help to clarify some concepts better. Like comparing two people's daiths or conches and showing how the piercing angle you would use would be different from one person to another. Or one ear where an industrial could be done helix to helix (or helix to flat) and another where conch to conch or helix to conch might be a better option. Fascinating stuff, though ... like figuring out how to adorn a sculpture to best effect.
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын
I've increasingly included images of piercing in most of the videos after this one. I always forget to take photos and only take photos of healed piercings. It doesn't help that some stoked a album full of the first eight years of me piercing. Thus they are lost forever. At first I was worried about copyright but I think it's easy to see all of my videos are educational and protected by fair uses. So I use my own photos when I can and rely on others when I don't have a good photo handy. I have been considering doing some videos with different clients to explain the difference in anatomy, placement and jewelry choices. However right now I'm so busy I really don't have the time. Hopefully towards the end of the year when things slow down.

I think one of the most important things to know about piercings and tattoos is that you have to be kinda flexible about the end product. If you have a perfect idea in your head and will accept nothing but you’re gonna have a bad time.
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the tattoo design or the piercing. In most cases its my experience that the outcome is often better than they thought it was going to be. The key is having an artist that is willing to educate the client and a client that is willing and open to their input. There has to be that collaboration.

I got REALLY lucky as far as ear shape goes and have been able to get just about any piercing. I’ve also been lucky to find a really good piercer. She really helped me plan out some of the placements as I got all 20 of my ear piercings over time. One one of my ears I have both a triple forward helix and a double regular helix. I found corkscrew jewelry that managed to line up perfectly with their placement and goes through both. Probably my favorite piece of jewelry.

Body Piercing & Tattooing I’ve had a couple piercings give me a damn hard time, don’t get me wrong. My snug piercing was an absolute bitch to heal, and one of my “flat” piercings on my upper ear decided it just wanted to swell to ridiculous amounts and nearly swallow the jewelry. My triple forward helix was a bit testy until we changed them to hoops (why they actually healed with hoops only is a mystery to both of us). Another mystery to both of us is why of all of my piercings, only the first helix piercing was a real bleeder. All the other barely bled, but that one threw a temper tantrum and wouldn’t stop for a while.

a week ago i got my industrial pierced but 3 days after i went to a more experienced piercer to get my bar bigger because i knew what i had in was too small. When she saw it she told me that i didn’t have the right ear anatomy for it and advised me to just take it out so we did that. I have been so devastated since 😭 i loved it and it’s the only piercing i want this bad!! So my question is, is there any way that a piercer can still work with whatever ear you got to still get the piercing or some ears just simply can’t take it?
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
Some people just don't have the anatomy for the piercing. In some cases, bending jewelery or adjusting the angle can make the piercing possible but it will often still be a problematic heal. When in doubt ask a more experienced piercer. I'm not a huge fan of telling people to take jewelry out of a piercing that is already done if there is no issues. I've have seen too many people heal out piercings that should have worked. I'd rather try to save the piercing and then remove the jewelry if a problem comes up.

@DeVo, thank you for uploading this. A few years ago (only my second time in a piercing shop), I naively asked for an industrial...my rook shelves are massive on both ears, so my piercer (very wisely) did not do it. Over the weekend, I got my first rook piercing and I am so much happier. If you're reading this and you're upset that your anatomy doesn't allow you to get a specific piercing...your ear(s) are probably the perfect shape for another you hadn't considered! Don't be discouraged, and love your ears.
@therealdeal36723 жыл бұрын

This is so true. When I was about 22yo a photographer told me my nose was slightly tilted (I'm 48yo now). Lo and behold - my piercer took that into consideration when he gave me a perfekt septum two years ago. It looks fantastic.
@BodyPiercingTattooing Жыл бұрын
Yes and the photographer shoukd have used the beauty of your titled nose to improve their photo. Those with the artist eye understand the need and the attention that the things that don't blend into the background draw. Piercers use the anatomy that is provide to achieve the illusion of prefect and if the anatomy was prefect the piercing would look off.

I love both daith and rook piercings, and would love to have them. My ear anatomy won't support either one, on either ear. I've been told that by several different piercers. The areas are too thin and not pronounced enough. I still have multiple lobe, cartilage, and tragus piercings though. I might get small tattoos in there instead. (Jan Griffiths, on hubby's account).
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
Well then I would suggest against them and maybe trying something else. There is such a large variety of anatomy with ears and you might be surprised by how your anatomy may work better with other piercings.

The piercing and jewelry will need to fit into your anatomy. The biggest factors are that the helix ridge and the helix flap need to be pronounced enough and there needs to be a line that doesn't have contact with the flat area of the ear.

Thanks for the comprehensive info! I wanted to ask about my mid-helix (between lobe & upper cartilage). When I roll it between my fingers, I can feel that the cartilage ends right in the middle between the snug & the edge of my ear. The rest of it is just skin. I wanted to get a double piercing here, but chances are that the piercing will hit just where the cartilage and skin meet. How will that affect a piercing in this area? Will it even be advisable to pierce?
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын

Do you recommend piercing them together with a hoop or two studs?
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын

It's hard to say without seeing the piercing first hand but the piercing should be done to fit into your anatomy. If there is no issue I would leave it be. However, if you start to notice any signs of migration or rejection, you should consider removing the jewelry.

I dont know if im lucky i have dumbo ears or not lmao. I can see my lobes and most of my ear. But i have next to no anti helix for some reason. Ive heard its a “protruding ear” thing. But yeah, its nice to be able to see my piercings because i love them and i like being reminded of them. But i look bad with short hair and, when my piercer measured my lobes and pierced them, at home i noticed they were like 3mm off and it drove me nuts. It made me so upset i drove quite a long time to go and get it redone by another piercer. The funny thing is i only noticed how off they were until i got my second lobe piercings. Ive had my left lobe pierced like 5 times if you count every time a needle went through it lmao. That sucked ass

You always have to consider that both ears are slightly different in size and shape. So, often it's more about making them look like they match than measuring them out and marking them.

If your helix is folded over where it’s like there are two different ridges on top of the other that can’t be separated, would a helix not be possible there/look wierd?

It's hard to say without seeing the area first hand. Your anatomy will dictate where the piercing can be and what jewelry will look and work best.

It really depends on the anatomy and its impossible to say without seeing the area first hand. If course piercings on the edges of the ears is easier. Piercings like lobes, Conch, tragus, upper ear cartilage, etc...

What is an outrageous amount in your opinion? Because I found a piercing place that I love but I know they’re overcharging for jewellery... which I get, I mean they have to make money somehow but it just makes me think I’ll only go there for my more difficult piercings... because I don’t think close to $90 AU minimum for a lobe piercing is fair, the material just doesn’t cost that much...
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
It comes down to three things, the experience of the piercer, the quality of the jewelry and the market they are in. If their location, for example if their studio is in a high end retail area, you are paying more for their overhead than their skill and the quality if the jewelry. Also are they marketing themselves as something exclusive then they are. Is it more about branding and fashion than about clean, safe, and well done piercings. Personally with base jewelry I charge $50 - $65 for one lobe and $90 - $120 for a pair and that includes jewelry. I've always wanted my prices to be within reach of the average person. Many studios feel that by charging more they are less likely to have to deal with people that won't take care of their piercings and don't consider it an art. Basically the "riff raff". Also there is this thinking that if you pay more, you are going to take better care of the piercing.

Body Piercing & Tattooing fair enough, I guess I’m just coming from the perspective of seeing a lot of teenagers just do it themselves and trying to convince them to pay $100 to get it done properly is difficult when from they just pick up a sewing needle, boil it, stab themselves, and then it heals okay. So in their mind it’s more expedient to just do it at home

You would be surprised how many ear lobes I do on a weekly bases. Usually women between the ages of 18-35. Most have one set already and had a bad experience getting them done with an ear piercing device. I've also seen an increase in teens and parents that are more educated about piercings. Either mom or dad is pierced and they insist that their child is pierced correctly.

Hey DaVo, HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you, your family and friends! Yeah, I know what you mean about individual ear anatomy. I very recently went to my piercer, who I trust to pierce me(& my daughter) RIGHT. Anyway, after my daughter recently got her septum pierced, I wanted an anti-tragus piercing. But since I already have QUADRUPLE-pierced earlobes, he REFUSED to do it! He said that I already have a LOT goin' on with my lobe piercings and he thinks that an anti-tragus would cause me problems. So, I've GIVEN UP on the idea of getting anymore type of ear piercings. However, I am a little DISAPPOINTED.

U can't find people to trust ,not who know what the hell is going on...soooo, yea--will u be my friend? [LOL...jokin'nbut you're a cool dude.] I was a body mod. For 2 yrs after a 3.5 year apprenticeship...and very quickly (well, as quick as almost 6 yrs is),found out this was NOT the job for me...especially in the epicenter of The World for tourists and dumbasses (& let me iterate strongly, FLA is made up of great , smart people...it's the kooks that move hur and visit hur that muck it up)! Anyhow...i still do pieces on my self...but u just never want to do a lot a them because of placement, angles, seemless aesthetic, & just plain gettin' it done fast and successfully...et cetera. Sooo, I need a person I can trust to be my second. I'm out a the loop hur. Left all my parlor mates behind because a their unruly and unprofessional (unintelligent) antics. And I'd just die of happiness to be around someone I could talk to that was smart AND knew about my interests, as well. Anyway...long comment ..but if u ever find yourself venturing down to the very drrrrrty , yet beautifully tropical South, plse let us know!! Not that u need it, but I'd bring u a stampede of NORMAL, intruiging, polite & couth, respectful, hospitable Penninsula Pals that'll be your happiest campers on BAD day. Lol. ~Later😁🥰🌴🌊🐢🌺🌡🌞⛈☔🌀

I understand what you went through. Coworkers can ruin even the best job. I don't think it's much different than any job but with body art it's often worse. Lots of free spirits are attracted to the industry but what they don't realize is it doesn't give them the right to be a full on ass. I'm lucky to have worked with a lot of great people. In fact I really have a great connection professional with the crew we have right now. Sure they can be bone heads at times but not any more than your average person. The thing is they all know when to be professional and how to have while doing it. As far as FLA, I've only been there twice. Both times flew straight into Orlando, went WDW and then back to the airport. So I have very little experience of FLA outside of Disney World. Which I have to admit is by far my favorite vacation destination. However if I head down there I will let you know.
