Just wanted to say, since I started implementing K Boges method of daily calisthenics, i've been getting more compliments on my body than usual (from both dudes and girls). Before that, I was lifting religiously but aside from the casual "you look bulkier" I got virtually nothing. May this personal account serve as a testament of what simple calisthenics can do to your body...

40 crisp push ups! You maintain such excellent form with every rep. I try to model my pushups after yours and still have a way to go. I did 27 push ups to test my max but definitely felt my form get sloppier by the 22 rep mark. Thanks for the great video, K boges!
@Kboges

Thank you, Michael! 27 is NO JOKE so well done! I think the average fitness enthusiasts dismisses push ups, but I honestly find them to be the most difficult thing I do. A really hard set is taxing physically and mentally, as you try to keep it all together while fatigue sets in. I find they take incredibly focus to do well. I love 'em. Keep at it dude and you will be in the 40's before you know it.

Hanging leg raises and L Sit pull-ups are the GOAT. I dead bar hang in some fashion every single day. Alternating a hanging day with my pull-ups. I’ll work on single hand dead hangs and hanging leg raises or Hanging L Sits. As a very tall guy with trouble growing lats, hanging everyday to some degree has benefited big for development and I could hold myself on a bar forever now. Literal minutes. Even with one hand I can go 30 plus seconds if I really push. All at 6’ 4” 220 pounds. Hanging leg raises and hanging will change your life. Unstoppable core and grip and huge underground lat grower.

What’s up, Kyle!? Been on the beach and in the water all day with the fam so I’m late to this. Yep, focus on the basics and throw in a little extra. I’ve gotten into the groove of getting the basics in for 30 minutes then I give myself permission to pick something else for an additional 10- 15 minutes. That might be crawls, or isometric holds, ab work, or accessories. No rules there after making the basics the priority. Love the content! Keep rolling!
@Kboges
@Kboges Жыл бұрын
Hey Derek! I love that approach. I do it almost exactly the same way; I have my basics I always hit, and after that I’ll dedicate a few sets to the weak points. Thanks for all you do in the community, brother! Your advice is always so helpful in there. Much appreciated!🙏

"Starting out you don't have to worry about the details." Yes. This is the one message I'm always trying to get through to people. I see so many people watching hours of content and being intimated and / or scared because "this might not be optimal" or "but isn't that less effective than this other thing ?" or "but am I supposed to do all this ? I'm not sure I have enough time." If you are a beginner, just do. Stop overthinking and watching and reading. Right now stop reading this comment, get down on the ground and do 5 pushups. Do stuff. Just do. And later once you're starting to feel strong and you're hooked on exercising, start thinking. But please just do something first. Just do. Become someone who works out first. Make it a part of yourself. That is the most important thing.

Play around with ALL the variables to find a movement that connects. I remember the first time I did wide grip, arched back, paused rep pull ups, my lats contracted so hard I actually got a cramp in them. This sort of immediate feedback can give you some great clues to follow.

What I do to improve mind-muscle connection with my lats is focus on one rep. Start at a dead hang, pack your shoulders, then pull yourself all the way up and squeeze everything down and back as hard as you can, for as long as you can. Then lower yourself down slow and steady to really get everything out of the negative. This has helped me tremendously with ensuring my lats are being targeted during pull ups. It starts to become second nature after awhile.

Hey man, really big fan of your channel. You are definitely one of the non commercial high value individuals on youtube. So I have Tendinopathy for a long time now. Patellar and elbows. For elbows I found out that training your forearms seems to do the trick most of the times. I use a towel, roll it and then I wet it with water. You want to get a good grips and than kinda twist the towel. You do eccentric concentric and isolation and you feel your forearms burning like crazy. And for patellar I do mostly spanish holds with a resistance band. As well as hip, knee and ankle mobility. I do martial arts, kung fu precisely, thats where I got my pattelar tendonitis from. Saw your video about the horse stance, which is from shaolin kung fu, called Ma Bu. Well I wanted your insights on this type of recovery workout I am doing. And if you have anything else you recommend. I've been doing this for about 2 weeks now. Thank you for your time, have a great day.

@@vlad_work5617 Ah that's awesome! I'm a big fan of traditional Chinese martial arts. I trained a style derived from Shaolin as a kid, and it gave me such an amazing athletics base. I think a formalized general movement practice is something missing from modern combat sports. I know traditional form/kata work is often dismissed and criticized by combat athletes who see it as "an imaginary fight" but I think it is I completely missing the point, which is that it is incredible attribute training, general preparation, mental training, etc. You can see many modern combat athletes intuitively understanding that they are missing this, as they start to incorporate "movement" training back into their routines. Pretty cool stuff, if you ask me! I think there is a lot of wisdom in these old traditions. I also trained Yang and Chen styles of Taijiquan, and Chen style has been the basis of my standing grappling for Sanda training. I've done a good amount of Judo and BJJ too, but I really appreciate the approach of Chinese martial arts- attribute training first, let the technique come from that. The Judo approach is practice techniques first, let the attributes develop. Two different ways up to the top of the mountain, so they arrive at the same point, but just take a very different approach.

@@Kboges Wow that's awesome! It's rare to see someone that knowledgeable about wushu. I agree with you, kata (taolu in kungfu) is important for perfecting your techniques. I always get mesmerized when I watch ChangQuan 3rd form (you can search it up on yt). 720 external kick into a split looks inhuman. It's said that wushu will join the 2026 Olympics which I really look forward into. If you have any questions about kung-fu/wushu/talou, don't hesitate to ask me. I've been practicing for 8 years now. I became a national competition judge last year and met many masters along way. Otherwise, have a nice day🙏

Hahahah! I was blessed with inexistent calves. After a lifetime trying to do “something” about it, in vain, a couple of months ago I put my toes on the edge of a step of my stairs, grabbed a 20 kg kettlebell, and did as many calf raises as I could. Two days later I couldn’t walk properly. But I understood I was onto something. Since then I have been doing calf raises almost to failure, almost 5 times a week. A few days ago I had the hardest recognition possible, that of my wife, who, distractedly, said “have you been doing something for your calves?, they seem a tiny hair less small than usual “… Grazie for the great content! Sometimes the biggest help come from those people who say “those things you’ve always felt you’ve known, but you just weren’t able to spell out“. Thanks!

Hahaha dude that is awesome! Maybe it is our Italian genetics but calves are my genetic weak point to! Naturally small and very very resistant to training. I’ve also been absolutely smashing them for the last 4 month in a way very similar to you. I’ve got some definition and a bit of size but man it is hard going. Fingers crossed we can grow some decent calves, amico! Keep me posted on how it goes. I want to hear about some big success next time we talk. Grazie!🙏💪

So you recommend us focusing on a single lagging muscle isolation at a time, and move on to another once done with it after few months, et puis voilà? (by keeping training it a minimum to maintain our gainz ofc lol) awesome stuff again Boge, your fitness content and knowledges never fails to amaze me.

Short, sharp and valuable as always. Thank you mate. Would you be able to make a video on: what's your take on Zone 2 training? Seem to be a hot topic, when it comes to training for longevity.

Thank you! I'm a fan of zone 2 for its low recovery cost and health benefits. I typically just do 20-30 minutes a day as a morning routine. I find it very sustainable and enjoyable.

@Kboges thank you. Seems to be different interpretations out there on defining zone 2. would you do it based on heart rate? Simplest I have heard was a cardio where you can keep a conversation going with some effort.

I'm torn between weights and bands for isolation exercises. I definitely feel it most with bands, but I'm also interested in trying some bodyweight isolation exercises. Though, I'm not sure there's much you can do about lateral deltoids outside of side planks and maybe pike push ups.
@Kboges
@Kboges Жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. You can try face pulls with rings. These hit side delts pretty well!

After many years of high reps i am trying something different. Pullups, dips and pistol squats. Low reps 3-5, high sets, 5-8. Nowhere near failure, pretty much daily. Walking for cardio. What do you all think?
@Kboges
@Kboges Жыл бұрын
I think it’s a solid way to go and a great way to change things up! You can always play around with a weight vest too. Whether or not it’s the best or fastest way to your goals just depends on your goals and your response, but it is absolutely a legitimate way to train.

Hi Kyle, love the videos. For someone skinny, is your physique attainable entirely through basic calisthenics such pull-ups, dips, and push-ups? Or will I need to prioritize weight training to bulk and achieve a physique similar to you?

I'll add my two cents as someone who's been doing it a long time with varying results. Both can and will build muscle if done right. weights are no guarantee of getting a good physique. You see people lifting weights daily who don't look great. Diet aside, the difference between looking good or not is consistency and quality of movement. So, you are free to choose weights or calisthenics. The absolute key is choosing the one you will consistently stick with, mindfully, regularly over a long period. I've tried every fad going and gained muscle and lost muscle. Nothing has been easier to consistently follow over a long period than kboges' style of workouts. Because a) I always get in 4 workouts a week minimum b) I never pick up an injury or strain and c) I don't hit the wall I used to with weights, where I would reach my safe limit and couldn't progress.

Hi Kyle! I just wanted to say your teaching is incredible. I've noticed I'm getting better at inverted rows, and my push pp form is really improving too. I remember you switched to focusing on bodyweight exercises instead of lifting weights a while back. Even though you used to lift weights, do you think it's possible for someone to get a body like yours by only doing bodyweight exercises or bodyweight exercises with weights, without ever touching a barbell/dumbbell?
