Can't wait to see the spring video of you disking those chunks into usable soil...not gonna be fun. I miss plowing...and this made me miss it more!

Great video, thanks. It goes slow with a seven bottom plow too. That's the nature of plowing with one of those. Late 70's when I was in high school. Folks tiled the old stock pasture and had me go out plow it. That southern Minnesota pasture had never seen a plow. Still sod. I had a 4 bottom IH plow on our 4520 JD. 10 acres took me about 3 days. Don't think the front tires spent more than half the time in the dirt. Thanks again, brings back some memories.

Jacob I love to moldboard plow. The price of parts now are mind blowing. To rebuild the 4 bottom that you use would take 800.00 to just replace all wear parts

Not sure how it is up there but if we plow frozen ground it does something to it, old timers say it sours or kills it, I tried this one time and they were right, that particular field would not hardly grow a weed. The next season was ok and did like normal.

Jacob, Bandit's comment about 16 inch bottoms prompted me to get a 4-16s White plow if it pans out the 4-18s IH will leave. When I plow I'm doing stuff like you are so I understand what you are trying to accomplish. That old 540 is doing pretty good for the conditions, an automatic reset would be a nice upgrade.

On that kind of soil under the current conditions six bottoms would not cut it I think. You have plenty of problems with what you have. Sorry about giving my two cents worth but you kind of asked for it. Love seeing the old iron back in the field.

I think you need a rollover plow. That ford with a four bottom should easily be able to do double in one day what took you two days.

Good to get that clay ground ploughed up and let the frost do it thing on the clay. The frost will break down the clay hit it in the spring with the rotaspike and you will make a decent seed bed. That what we do with clay soils in Scotland
@2frogland
@2frogland 10 ай бұрын
im in lincolshire england on the coast we have heavy rich clay , i use a fully mounted 3 furrow plough on a fordson new performance major 50 ish hp with semi digger mouldboards slightly l;onger than yours they dont fully cover trash but with as much speed as possible without throwing it too far helps break up the clay helping the frosts to further break the clay up , 8 acres a day would be normal

Perhaps there are enough freeze-thaw cycles to start breaking down the chunks! That's the first time I've seen frozen ground plowed.

Two inches of frost is optimal for traction on what would most likely be too wet if not frozen. Any deeper and it's too hard.

Jacob, did you ever find out what was wrong with the dual power? I bought a TW25 last summer with the same problem as well. I am going to try and change the solenoid this winter. I remember you said the New Holland part crossed to a different solenoid I can get for cheaper. Do you remember what that was? Thanks.

Wow after you killed the second bottoms moldboard why didn't you stop plowining.you ruined that Field number 1 way too wet to be plowing.but biggest mistake you could seeing instantly after trashing that bottom .your creating a dead furrow every pass bc that soil isn't being flipped completely over to fill in the space the first bottom flipped into the furrow from last pass.go take a look at that field once it has settled before disking it.to even come close to evening the ground out you wil😮l have to disc at a steep angle best way I guess be to figure 8 disk it.
