IH 1466 Gets a Chance to Pull the Deere 300 Cornpicker

Growing up I picked lots of corn in January and February to crib for cattle. Picked early morning until the frost came out. Lots of comments about finishing in nov/dec from critics who are used to workin 9-5 mon to fri. In farming you finish when u finish. Wish I still had corn in the field- paid dearly for drying at a lower price. Keep up the good work.

New Idea 2 row 38” corn picker run by a Cockshutt 1655 (open cab) pulling 150bushel wagons and -10/12 degrees. By 9:00am we’d be stuck and chaining tractors together. Best times ever

That’s how I deal with mud... keep going back and fourth till I stop, or it gets too deep especially when I’m chisel plowing or moldboard plowing... if you don’t open up the wet spots they’ll turn to concrete when and if it ever dries up.. thank you for the video. Great job

@@bradhaenitsch1145yeah well it’s in bad shape, TA is gone and PTO doesn’t work so it’s constantly working the engine. My 1466 can pull a co-op Ccil combine through chaf and mud with a cab, with no problem. (Of course you don’t combine in thick mud, but in a couple inch’s)

I can remember having to run a cotton picker at night when the ground was froze because during the day it was way two muddy.... We took the single rear steer wheel off those two row John Deere cotton pickers and put the wide fronts off 4010 and 4020 tractors under the pickers helped with stability of the pickers in turning and mud

Man it looks weird seeing a 1466 without a cab. Growing up we had a 1206 with an aftermarket Year-A-Round cab and a 1466 with the IH cab. The 14 was a great machine, fast & reliable for swathing and pulling a harrow, but I much preferred the 1206 for planting, cultivating, and pulling the 914 combine since it had lighter steering and better visibility.

We put an 856 on our corn picker most of the time. Have put our 656 and 1586 on the picker. The 856 has more ranges. Have put a w6 on the picker before. Just thankful we got ours off before Thanksgiving

My 886 did the same thing the other day. I was able to tighten the bolts around the bottom and get it to stop but I know that won’t last. Now I have to decide whether I want the hassle of rebuilding it or spending a grand on a rebuilt one ready to put in. I hate spending that much money on a chore tractor, but it’s sure to do it again with this thick cold HyTran.

I sell the ear corn above market price, it's lower maintenance to store, and I have buyers who come to me. One of these days I'll get a video of loading the semi that comes for ear corn.

I never was a fan of 20.8s in muddy conditions many times i had my 5488 IH stuck in spots the 1086 on 18.4s drove right threw pulling the same 320 bu wagon lol. Skinny tires i could keep them spinning fast enough to clean out vs 20s would ball up.. Its a pity when i see an IH tractor with a PTO issue since its so easy to take out the PTO and rebuild it and set the Pressure ...

Since you are a Ford NewHolland fan, if you can afford one, a NH TS 115 Turbo 4wd manual or power shift is a tractor that will do everything, is fast on the road very easy to start in cold weather great cab with factory a/c and heater. They are very sought after in Europe and hold their value very well.

I've been following you for a while now, maybe I missed one but how come you just don't combine or silage/chop the lot and be done in quick time. I sell ear corn above grain market value. Much is wasted on deer, some goes to cattle. The buyers come to me, and there's no dockage for moisture. So I could harvest it all quick in the fall as grain, have a drying nightmare but be done and poor, or I make a few extra pennies this way with some less worry about storage. And less time on the road hauling to town.

An 806 that I used to operate while mowing government ground in the early 70's would build up a layer of oily dirt under the shoulder of the PTO actuating rod where the rod enters the top of the gearbox behind the seat. This layer of dirt kept the PTO from shutting off. Even worse there would be a dirt build up height where the PTO could turn itself on due to tractor vibration, making it dangerous to work on PTO powered equipment while the tractor was running.

I have folks who want to buy it. Some cattle guys like feeding it to cows. Deer hunters like to waste it. And it doesn't require must attention to moisture for storage.

I didn't mind using a small silage wagon for extra storage. It's a corn crib on wheels. The only trouble we had was that it unloaded way too fast. If we used it more, maybe we would've installed a lot of gear reduction. I hope you were clinching your teeth when you saw how close your jacket was to the picker chains. Please, don't become a one-armed farmer.

“TA” stands for torque amplifier essentially it is a on the go powershift sort of thing which drops you down a half a gear or something like that. You get a lot more pulling power but lose speed when you pull it back

Honestly, this video is painful to watch. Going need to look back and make a list of mishaps, beak downs and delays that got us to this point. I do not know what is considered normal or average end date for corn harvest in you area is it late November? Will need to do an After Action Review to determine what can be done to get you out of the field before Christmas next year.

Can't make it rain less and OSU tried and only came up with impractical tiling solutions to make our soil drain better. You folks are all worried about late harvest when it doesn't affect you. And this late harvest is right on time for multi year grain market highs. It's not all doom and gloom.
