Given the nature of your accomplishment, I'm sure that I'm not the first airline pilot to leave a comment here but I stumbled upon your video and watched the whole thing. I am truly impressed by your enthusiasm, skill, and attention to detail. As it happens, I'm a Captain on the CRJ, for a regional airline here in the States but I do hold a type rating on the B737. Just based on this limited observation (...and my limited memory), I can say that you have obviously represented the airplane very, very well. It truly looks remarkable and as you say in the UK, it's "spot on"! :)

Wow, so very many thanks for your comments and very valuable opinion. I must admit, the simulator started as a single console bit of fun but seems to have grown into a bit of a monster! I suppose the attention to detail comes from many years involved in flight test in the military, and I'm so pleased you commented as you did. Anytime you are in the UK I would welcome your comments on the flight model if you get a chance to pop in and fly it. Kind regards, Neale

Well the next thing, just to enable that little bit more atmosphere, is to enclose the area of the cockpit, and install a cockpit door, made to look as authentic as possible. That would then help to isolate the senses and concentrate the effect of the simulation environment. I think you have done a brilliant job! I might have used multiway connectors for the I/O cards to make removal for repairs simpler, but hopefully that should not be necessary much anyway. Excellent!

I have seen a lot of home flight simulator setups by now. Going by the serious effort and attention to detail in each of the contributions, I wonder if the OEMs themselves would consider getting these people on board as consultants for future advanced cockpit build outs. If they haven't been doing it already, I suggest they better hurry because their competition sure has their sights set on these people somewhere. Great effort Sir! I bow down to your dedication.

Abhijit Kashyap Sir, very many thanks for your kind comments. I think you are correct that advances in computer technology means the average guy like me can develop a system probably very effective as a part task trainer at a fraction of the cost of a commercial Enterprise. As you say, maybe the OEMS need to look at basic commercial off the shelf offerings in the future. Many thanks again, kind regards, Neale
@Col.J.N.W.SinghKhandala

Neale Hargreaves I would also like to suggest (if I may say so since I don't wish to come across as preaching to the choir here), that you could rent the setup out to potential type rating seeking CPL holders out there at a competitive hourly/per session rentals as compared to the FMS ones, which in turn could serve you very well by means of returns on your diligent investment in the project. Given how the actual type rating programs can be real nerve wracking exercises, it wouldn't hurt the aspiring commercial pilots to be slightly better prepared for their final check rides at the time of qualification.
@nealehargreaves3439
@nealehargreaves3439 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks again. I'm ex-military and a lot of guys leaving the Service have asked the same question....so I'm on the case to help them out, rather than them paying the exorbitant fees at the major Sim centres.....As you say, any return on investment in the future would be great. Cheers, Neale

Neale Hargreaves While thinking on those lines, I would humbly request you to also consider technical and commercial collaborations with stakeholders in the Indian civil aviation arena. I speak out of personal experience since, I am in the run-up to obtaining my CPL in India and a type rating program perhaps thereafter. But, I am not aware of a single effort on similar lines in my country by passionate people, accomplished completely on a personal level like your's. Given how the taxes and customs' duties are high in our country on such procurements, one can't think of embarking on attempting such a feat. Therefore, it would help greatly if more competent offerings are there in the market for aspiring pilots to choose from. Ironically, India is one of the fastest growing in passenger and cargo loads in civil aviation in the whole of Asia and a highly promising market for the future where multiple successful domestic airline companies have been hitting the big time. The government too is being supportive of the cause in trying to get the common people to have flying as an alternative means of transportation. If I may suggest to you where to start go looking for these collaborators, Bangalore (now spelled Bengaluru) is 'the city' to begin with. It is where the aviation industry of India has germinated from. Hope to see you here soon. My best wishes for all your future endeavours!

Great build!!!! It's so satisfying when you build something with your own two hands!! ...My next project is a four place full scale flying drone that looks like a flying saucer....out in my garage!!!... The simulator is just about complete!!!! :)....👽

Hi Neale. Just discovered your channel and immensely glad I did! This is phenomenal and something you should be incredibly proud of. I wouldn't even know where to begin on a project like this as it's not where my skill set lies - I'm very jealous! If you ever decide to open it up to your fellow UK residents I'll be first in the queue. Are you a commercial pilot? You have a typical pilot's voice! (That's a compliment, by the way!)

This is a fantastic build. Even if I wasn't into the sim-pit thing I could appreciate the serious craftsmanship you put into this. I was wondering though, Have you considered putting those PCs into rack cases? You could have a neat little rack back there with your switch in and might make it easier to manage.

jackeatley Hi, thanks for watching the video. As you say, it would be great to migrate all the computers into a rack and one day we will look at it, but it needs a budget and my beautiful wife controls that element! Kind regards, Neale

My racing sim is no where near as complex as this. I actually took a body off a 2009 Corvette and the inside is designed off the 2009 corvette (I have different steering wheels for the road version and the Touring version) I also have moving hydraulics to simulate the car moving and bouncing. But this costs way more, and it is very complex. Yes my corvette body was very cheap in fact it was only 400$ because it was gutted and the only thing (other then the body panels) was The door hinges. And it’s an awesome sim. But damn THiS is awesome especially for being 4 years old

If you can build that, then building a flight simulator for a Spitfire, Hurricane, Mosquito, etc. would be child's play for you. You are one of the cool people in the world - I'm jealous :-)

Why have you got your sub-bass six foot in the air? It totally defeats the object. As soon as you lift it off the floor it becomes a mid-range. You will get far more effective bass with it firmly fixed to the ground, (or your raised deck). Sub-bass is non-directional anyway, so just put it next to your computers.
