I wish he asked what the total cost was of setting this up... I'm going to guess it was in the 20-30 thousand dollar range. Maybe 40. Also, I wonder why he has multiple computers to handle the simulation (or how that even works with X-plane) . I wonder if my quad core i7 3770k would handle all that he does here.. I have X-plane 10 that I just purchased yesterday -- amazing sim but I see that it's complicated enough that it'll probably take me a year or more to learn everything about it... I also have FSX and didn't realize that the vatsim type ATC simulation was available on X-Plane as well! Awesome! I want to build a setup like this for a small plane like a Cessna 172. Plan is to eventually hire an instructor & get my actual sport then private pilot certificate once I've honed my skills in the simulators.

If i was going to build a simulator of that caliber i would build one out of a fighter/attack type military aircraft. Would seem much more fun to dogfight or attack enemy positions than just leisurely flying a 737 around looking at clouds,but thats just me. To each his own.
@cosmicacorn7 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from but I would prefer a 737 sim, yeah a fighter game would be really fun but it would get repetitive soon. But a 737 is very consistent in the entertainment.
@Petey447 жыл бұрын
That would be cool, but if you wanted to do flips and stuff, lots of wiring
@agostonbazmajer11006 жыл бұрын
The problem with that is the secrecy regarding the actual systems. For a 737 essentially you can learn almost anything because nothing's really classified about how the systems work and what they do. If y ou only care about making them behave realistically, it certainly can be done, the propietary stuff really comes to the actual manufacturing process. For military jets, the new stuff is classified. You may get a close simulation but you can't really get to know even the realistic behaviour and you have no way of making it appear realistic because you can't just find scrapped F16 throttle quadrants.

xThePisco I doubt it costs that much. If that were the case he would’ve been better off buying a full motion simulator for an obsolete airframe from an airline auction. They come on the market when airlines are upgrading their fleet to a new generation and the sim is too old to be worth retrofitting. Can buy what used to be a multi million dollar sim for well under 100k. But you need the space for it since they require very high ceilings, and also demand lots of power.
@laserguy86736 жыл бұрын
You can build one far under that. Not sure where you grabbed that number, but for that price, i can get a new mercedes benz AMG. if you go for high copy components instead of original and build the frame yourself. and If you can make your own boards, and are handy with electronics, thats another huge plus for cutting costs. and by the way, now that we have raspberry, arduino and android etc, its even cheaper to make. We didn't had sophisticated and powerful little project computer boards 15/20 years ago The displays with driver boards from captain to first officer €200, most cases even less. Nice FMC panels : >€70. FMC screens with buttons soldered in matrix or just pushbuttons with graphite to capacitive touch interface, less then €50 Its more time than anything else. But heck, $150k?!?! Thats a price you pay for an Benz AMG V8 black series.

I’ve noticed my older flight sim has a few dozen or so assignments I can map to my controller. This looks like there’s literally hundred or more assignments to map out. How many assignments are in the latest X Plane or MS FS 2020?

***** that's the reason I don't get involved in IVAO or VATSIM. It's only a hobby, and not reality. You spend more time waiting in line to login and actually do something, than actually participating in air traffic control. Go get yourself a copy of ATCsimulator2-HD. It's ready when you are.

Wow! this is absolutely wonderful!!! I flew Flight Simulators many times, but not in a cockpit like that and definitely not in a real airplane. I admire a lot those intrepid builders!!! Thank you for the video.

Air Traffic controllers makes A LOT of money. At least in my country, they are in the top 3 wage list. They usually make way more than the actual pilots. And it's one of the most demanding jobs there is. I'm glad this guy is putting his money to good use :)

xplane? it would be much better if it was fsx or prepar3d
@marty3453410 жыл бұрын
***** Whilst Xplane has arguably better flight dynamics, that's about it. It has a poor dashes; 3D cockpits; a horrid and ugly UI including menus; options; has little in the way of PMDG-equivalent aircraft; terrible meshes; inaccurate and low fidelity world scenery. For this reason it is and always will be the Betamax of flight sims.
@skippyskater10 жыл бұрын
***** It's certainly better in terms of flight dynamics. That makes it better, it's a sim. For simming... I have used FSX for years and I'm never going back. I use X-plane 10 and DCS for a bit of the wild side. Going to try prepar3d further along the development line though, when it can utilize a good rig it should be awesome!
@SuffyANX10 жыл бұрын
***** You are wrong in all of those points. There more than enough PMDG-level aircraft in P3D. There's a 757 that was licensed by Boeing for being so good, do you not think that's an achievement? On top of that, the 3d cockpits in XP10 are actually very nice. Far better than stock FSX ones, with far more working parts. The FSX 747 doesn't even have a working FMC, but the XP10 one does, for example. Also, I like the XP10 UI, and I don't find it difficult to use. As far as graphic options, it has at least twice as many as FSX, including proper antialiasing settings, FOV, HDR, etc. Terrible meshes? Strangely, I've noticed that XP10's mesh is far more detailed in FSX, and it gives runway slopes, which FSX does not. Inaccurate scenery? Hmm, no. I can fly to where my house in a rural area is and follow the roads across the entire country if I want. Not what I'd call innacurate. And as far as low-fidelity? So is FSX's default scenery. FSX default scenery is the ugliest crap I've ever seen. I love FSX as a sim to be built on, and I am going to be using it and P3D for pretty much all of my airliner flying simply because of the options in addons, but it's just not near as pretty, realistic, or stable as stock XP10 without dumping loads of money on top of it.
@marty3453410 жыл бұрын
BlackFenixGaming Who said anything about P3D but now that you bring it up, P3D makes XP all that more irrelevant. All the arguments for it like "used by trainers" and "the military" are now ditto for P3D. Throw in a much bigger development team, larger funding and the fact that it's Lockheed puts a nail in the coffin for XP. XP is the Betamax of flight sims. Enjoy it while you can get the tapes.

Maybe for someone who has never flown an actual plane but for an actual pilot which this guy says he has a license in single engine as he owns a piper, x plane is more realistic. What it lacks in graphics and flashiness, it makes up for in reality as the physics are much more in line with real life flying and I believe most flight schools and airlines use x plane simulators to train their pilots and test their aircraft. If you like me don't have any experience flying and are looking for better graphics and immersion at the cost of less than realist physics than perhaps FSX is better.
