Okay, thank you for the short and concise explanations, quick question though: What if you're already in flight, as in never inputted anything into the FMC for a purely manual experience, and you want to set a GPS NAV destination? I've gotten to filling out the DEST field and such, but my ORIGIN field is blank, what would I put there to avoid discontinuity errors in the route? Would the airport that I started out of be the answer, even though I'm over 1500 miles from that location already?
@thecorporatepilotdad7 ай бұрын
It may not be the case still, but in MSFS, the departure point can’t be entered if in the air. The points in front of the airplane would be the only ones that matter. Discontinuities happen and they are used to differentiate the end of the departure, enroute phase, and the arrival. An arrival or departure can end on a heading or course to be flown to expect vectors after the last fix. That is when discontinuities are needed. If they were deleted the airplane would just fly to the next fix in the FMS instead of flying the heading or course down at the end of the arrival or departure. In MSFS without ATC, discontinuities can be deleted if desired.

@@pastorhaze9509 I know how that goes! If you want a great FMS download the CJ4 Working Title Mod. It works very close to the real thing. I made some videos on how to use it. They have takeoff and landing performance in it along with the ability to load a route and it has working VNAV. I have a couple tutorials on how to use it. Their mod provides some other realistic features of the CJ4 over the default airplane but the FMS works really well with a few exceptions but to my knowledge they are always improving it.

Very informative and to the point! Excellent for the classic FMC, but you forgot the 787. For example I can't just build my route by going to RTE then RTE DATA like you can when in the midst of modifying my route.
@thecorporatepilotdad3 жыл бұрын
When I made this video these methods also worked for the B787. The FMCs were nearly identical and I thought they still were. If not, I need to investigate and fix the title. That FMC is a disaster and took forever to figure out. Having it freeze for 5 seconds on the RTE or Legs page didn't help either.

Is there a function similar to "Direct To" on 787? I found it extremely difficult in certain situations without this function to skip ahead or go back to some waypoints.
@thecorporatepilotdad3 жыл бұрын
One possibly solution is move the waypoint to the top of the route or delete the waypoints prior to the desired fix. The FMCs in the Boeing aircraft need a major revamp. To put it nicely, they are awful in their current state. If you want a working FMS try the CJ4 Working Title mod - if you're on PC and haven't downloaded it already.
@adamgibson9385 Жыл бұрын
Is it the same on the 787? Can you show how to change the approach if ATC changes the approach from the one you set originally?
@thecorporatepilotdad Жыл бұрын
Yes, but this video was made prior to AAU1 when the Boeing FMCs were updated. To change the approach simply press DEP/ARR twice, press ARR (R2), then in the top right corner (R1), press the selected approach under APPROACHES and select another approach from the list and then select the transition.

Nice tutorial, you program it as I'm used to in fax and p3d but doesn't seem to work in the 787 or 747 in fs2020. What could I be coming wrong?
@thecorporatepilotdad4 жыл бұрын
That is in the 747. It doesn't program like a real fms. The real fms is much easier. Do it the way I did. It does work in the 787. Hopefully they fix the FMCs too but after yesterday's update I'm not holding my breath.

I’ve been using this but when I insert a star at arrival destination it deletes or changes my Sid from departure. Any ideas why? Your video does not show how to insert a Sid and star
@thecorporatepilotdad3 жыл бұрын
It does not but I was showing how to enter a route manually since someone asked me. I am not sure why it changes the SID/STAR. I am not a fan of the default FMCs. If you want a better functioning FMS look at the CJ4 Working Title Mod. That FMS works pretty close to the real thing and it is much easier to use. The lack of working FMC/FMSs in FS2020 was and still is a huge disappointment. Have you tried loading the departure first and then the arrival? You could also load the departure on the ground and then load the arrival in the air when you're past the last point on the SID.

@bahia99913 жыл бұрын
@@thecorporatepilotdad Seriously? This is terrible! I can see using the map, but I was trying to really simulate. So in real life I would have to wait till I was close to the arrival to check how the approach will be.
@thecorporatepilotdad3 жыл бұрын
@@bahia9991 I agree. The FMCs in the default aircraft were a disappointment and there was a VNAV button on lots of default aircraft and VNAV didn’t work. I was very disappointed by that upon release and it’s still not fixed. Working Title’s CJ4 has VNAV and the FMS allows viewing the route point by point without zooming out. I’m not sure if the FMC in the 747 will do that, but unless the route is entered the way in the video it’s hard to see the route. If you want realism, the CJ4 Working Title mod is the best in my opinion. Since Working Title is a part of Microsoft/Asobo, I strongly believe the FMCS will get fixed in every aircraft eventually.

Hey, how do you change the speeds on the legs page when in flight? I was flying 787 on Xbox from Copenhagen to Oslo on the autopilot using LNAV, VNAV and the Auto-throttles. On legs my speeds throughout the entire journey was saying 310. I was typing in 250 on the scratchpad to start slowing down during the descent and then pressing the buttons on the right hand side of the FMC but nothing was working. Unlike on the left side of the FMC where the buttons were in grey, they right hand side buttons were all highlighted in blue. I could not change a thing. What was I doing wrong?

I created the IFR flight plan on the main menu and then clicked fly now. I never changed the flight plan when I was doing the flight.

I would have to check but at this time, I do not believe it is possible to adjust the speeds on the legs page in the FMC on any default aircraft. The default FMCs were a huge disappointment in terms of functionality. One way to get the speeds to do something is adjusting the AT speed bug when there is a speed restriction ahead. You're probably doing that already anyway.

@@thecorporatepilotdad Thanks for the reply! Yes the only way I was able to do the speeds that ATC wanted me to do was to turn off VNAV and descend the aircraft myself and leave the throttles on auto-throttles.
