It definitely is a scary turn for those of us scares of flying. I know that flying on United from IAD to MUC was pretty chil. But flying Lufthansa on a A320 from Muc to Berlin was scary as shit. I swore the pilot must have been a Luftwaffe reservist with how aggressively he made his turns. Both the 320s I rode within Germany seemed more extreme than the United flight to Germany, the Lufthansa flight back to the US, or my smaller United connecting flights within the US.

I remember working in Seattle and driving home one afternoon on I-5 alongside Boeing Field. The 747 prototype was in test and coming in for a landing from the south. It had full flap extension and gear down. It hung in the air like a huge bird settling in. The sight stopped all traffic on the interstate in both directions until it touched down. Amazing sight to behold.

Never use the yoke PTT as the non flying pilot, that's bad form, always use the VHF ptt/int switch. You interfere with the control inputs of the flying pilot if you use the yoke PTT switch. It's exactly why Boeing added the PTT switch on the corner panel in the dash 8.

My family and I sat on a plane in Florida for almost 45 minutes because the captain, nor the co-pilot had showed up. I'm assuming their golf game ran a bit later than usual or maybe they wanted to have a cocktail before flying...who knows. (dont say anything...it's happened and you know it). Everyone was sweating, it was 8 pm in the evening and these two finally board the plane. Everyone starts clapping and several people were saying things "its about time, or finally." One british dude actually yelled out "where the bloody hell have you been?" It was not long afterwards that a very friendly voice came over the intercom, introducing himself and he promptly said, "everyone make sure your seatbelts are fastened tight, cuz we're going to fly it like we stole it." This was a Delta flight for anyone thats curious. The entire plane erupted with laughter. It was great. Had a wonderful flight, but we sure deserved it.

Wow! Once they hit TOGA and she rolled it was quite a long take-off (reasonably heavy load or short runway?), yet that 744 hauled it out of there, the turn was spectacular and flap retraction was completed so quickly :-) Brilliant! Sad the 747-8 is no longer in production--the 747 is safety validated over 53 years, proven as a pleasant to fly, magnificent aircraft. Imho the design should not be discarded in favour of twin-engine plastic planes which, compared to the 747, we know NIL about... aside from very strong profit advantages (Greed?) on behalf of operators and the manufacturer.

Hell, I wouldn’t even know who I was flying with many times but rest assured before the flight we’d have a few beers and share a bottle of tequila on take off - put her in auto-pilot and have a great old time tell in each other stories and getting to know the stewardesses on the flight. It was a standard 30 deg angle of bank turn, the stall speed increase is only 7.5%. They would have been climbing at V2+10 kts or about 50+ knots abovethe stall speed. So there was plenty of margine for them, it's quite commone for a 30 deg climbing turn to be done after takeoff. I am a flight instructor with 5000 hrs dual given.

Where is the snow? If you call that snow, you don't know what real snow is. And "heart-stopping turn." Pffffttt. Whatever.

I just realized: from the cockpit, it looks like we are inside the head of an electronic eagle. And it also looks like we’re inside the mask of Darth Vader (see The Revenge of the Sith as the mask gets lowered on to Anakin’s face. That said, the 747 was and is a marvel of the skies. A gorgeous technological achievement. An old friend.

My loorrrrrd. Imagine at the sharp left turn, if all the passengers on the right side got out of their seat to see the view on the left and suddenly the cargo underneath shifted to the left and also 2 mm of ice on the left wing. Wooouuuuwww dont even think about it 😂

The 747 was the only 'Queen of the Skies', such a legacy over so many decades.Bye bye snow and freezing weather, passengers might have said looking out at the frozen wonderland.Destination Barbados perhaps.Champagne anyone.?!!.

It ALWAYS appears to me the "dashboard" sticks up too high. If I were a pilot I would demand lower "dashboards" so I had a better forward view. Anyone with me? :)

Maybe it’s the camera angle but the view wind shields directly in front always look small and the control panel too high unless your Kareem Abdul Jabbar to see well directly ahead. Wouldn’t you want a less obstructed view directly ahead?

There's nothing "heart-stopping" about a rate 1 turn, in perfect VFR conditions. Take your click bait elsewhere.

An engine run up is for 30s when there is fan blade icing and engine vibration. At 70% N1 if there is no vibration you immediately set takeoff thrust. I suggest you read your FCOM baldy

My goodness. Peeps don't know that other than an emergency, these airlines are limited to 30° of bank angle. (Autopilot).

looked to be a short field takeoff ... TO roll started from thievery end of the runway and there was only about 1500 feet remaining when they had a positive rate of climb. The turn was pretty normal in my book ... looked like 30 degrees of bank which is considered a 'normal' bank angle - especially if you don't have passengers to upset. looks like he shallowed the bank angle towards the end of the turn to roll out on the departure radial. Good flying ... but another day at the office for most pilots.

Hah! If the people in the back could only see how the pilot in the front kept touching the controls on the CO-PILOT’S side lol. Stop crossing cockpit lines, dude!!!

Heart stopping? You should have been on the same plane I was just a few weeks ago going from Fort Lauderdale to New York. I prayed and held my kids hands for half an hour on the way down until the seatbelt light went off. 60 miles per hour winds on the smallest plane I’ve ever been on. When I looked around everyone I made eye contact with was terrified 😂.

Really nice video……well done. But I must say, I didn’t find it “heart stopping” !? Give me 70 deg and THAT should do it !!!

all men want to be Batman. and it seems to me that if you can get this bad boy off the ground, for the first 10-12 seconds there you can convince yourself that you are. I now see why men become pilots.
