Excellent and thoroughly explanation Captain. Thank you for your wisdom. Cathay Pacific is lucky to have a pilot like you. All your videos are enjoyable to see and learn from them just to know how airplanes function on the ground and in the air🙏🏽💯

Hi, cool video !being an 400erf why is the MTOW limited to 396k ? It should not be 413k?

Hey @pilot_obet - the most underrated pilot in KZbin! I just wanted to say thanks, having watched you for years. You do so many helpful, interesting and informative clips. I just have 1 glaringly obvious question... What did you do, to annoy Google? It seems they've really held the channel views back over the years, and I don't really understand why. I mean, how many real 747 pilots are there, posting real world 747 clips and stuff? You could argue 74gear is more of a story teller / pilot reacts. So what did you do? Did you go against the grain on the shape of the earth, or say you saw a UFO or something? Btw, I really enjoy what you do, keep it up

Hi, how the performance calculations on the iPad os transferred to aircraft computers? Why there is an iPad between the input of load, atmosphere and runway and the aircraft computers? Isn't it just adding another point of failure.

I’ll show you in part two of the data entry process

As an aerospace engineer studing in the UK, I can tell that the software uses mathematical equations such as integration and differential equations to calculate the takeoff speeds and related data, all depending on the aeroplane weight, engine thrust force, runway conditions (drag coefficient if you need to abort the takeoff), air density and the lift coefficient of the wings. When you get into this stuff, it's really interesting and fascinating. What's more convenient, the pre-programmed app does it for you! Normally this amount of math would take hours for a human to compute.

Who'd have known it did all that with the wings. I thought it was limited to a predefined value, that was modified by each condition- take off weight, centre of gravity, engine rating, selected derate, engine bleed setting, flap settings, runway length, runway elevation, temperature, assumed temperature, air pressure, runway slope, runway dry/wet/standing/ slush/snow/ice, and finally, wind speed/direction. I remember there used to be a table that outlined the basic speeds, and then further charts would be referenced that give additional penalties (or bonuses) to the base speed, so the end result would almost always be a higher (faster) figure, or requiring longer takeff run.

Thanks. I’m guessing you aren’t dealing manually calculating the CG with the moment/arm. I’m guessing given you know the loaded position and weights of the cargo the software is calculating it for you?
@eaglethedigger7 ай бұрын
Should be calculated by the load agent and printed on the load sheet. But I am only ga pilot ;)
@CameTo7 ай бұрын
The company supplies the weights and CG, which is verified during the loading of specific pallets into the prescribed positions, thus final loadsheet should check out. The CG is entered, and usually only effects the stab setting. Under extreme cases, moving CG aft will reduce stall speed, but this can also be dangerous.
