We use a pneumatic jack and use the air pressure from the tire we are changing via a "cheater" hose. That way no one has to manually jack the aircraft. That leaves one person free to start removing the hubcap and the lock bolts from the gland nut. when the tire is off the ground, one person pulls it off and another person rolls the new tire in and mounts it. The gland nut is installed and someone torques the gland nut while another spins the tire. When the final torque is reached, the bolts and safety wire are done by one guy and the other does the log book. A third person helps with tools, equipment and any other needs. A tire change can be done in 15 minutes while the plane is boarding passengers.

Could someone explain how exactly its lifted? I assume the shock absorber is compressed. But wouldn't that lift the whole plane up?

The plane rises with the help of a jack just like a car. The only difference is the size of the jack.

I usually lowered the aircraft After lockwiring the dust cap. I could then turn the wheel to make it easier to apply the lockwire.
