Out of all airlines operating the B747SP on a continuous basis, Iran Air is probably the most interesting one. Over the last few years, the Airline of the Islamic Republic of Iran had only one of the originally four frames in service. Others were in repair or being parted out for spares. In 2014, EP-IAA was made fit again with the help of the engines of the by then retired last passenger B747-100. At the time this airliner had been flying for 38 years, making it by far the oldest passenger B747 in service. Shortly after the video was made, AA left the fleet forever and passed on it's engines for IC, which currently is active and operates many Iran Air flights, but mostly the ones to Kuala Lumpur.
If one seeks a flight in a real classic, it is highly recommended to fly Iran Air's SP, since the combination of the history of this unique airline in combination with the Persian hospitality is extraordinary and an adventure for a lifetime.
The flight from Tehran to Kuala Lumpur was in economy class. The seat was located in the forward section of the economy cabin, forward of the praying room. On the other side the massive galley is located, making up the complete section from R1 to R2 door.
The plane was in very good condition, and considering it's age and the economic sanctions, Iran Air's SPs are flying marvels!
