Anybody want to guess why I quit when I told the superintendent at plant II when I offered to take over the SST Hinge work when Carl {or whatever his name was) that was weeks late due primarily to his sleeping in the cab enclosure of the mill running in profile mode? Happened as I was wrapping about 300 B52 flaps being reworked as part of an upgrade then. Second shift, 1st break when I asked the 3270 sup if he could get me something a little more challenging than finishing a marathon boring job (was run on 3 shifts forever) When I asked him he said he thanked me for the nice job etc & said he would see what he could do, At that point I brought Carl's napping on the SST Hinge job and said I can run that and get us back on schedule. He denied Carl was asleep and I told him "If I walk over reach up and slap the cab he'd Bolt, jump and probably fall out in the cutter head and get killed. Wanna Watch?" Told me nobody sleeps in his shop, let it go I'll get you something good." I told him " Forget it! I quit and will have my tool box checked and wired shut by lunch at 8pm" and went back to my machine. Pager went off with my name. Found a phone, It was the plant sup's office. Gal told me to come up now do yo know where the office is? Told balcony column whatever and off I went. She had me sit an oak chair for about 20 minutes and I finally got called in. Told my story got the nobody sleeps on the job here BS. Then your dads not going to be happy, TS I said Then it was well your mom won't like it either (both had 20 or more years in at that point. My dad was a facilities supervisor and my mom was a production stores clerk. I called him out for even mentioning all that and asked if he had anything else then left to get my gear and never looked back. So whomever put this together got it right. And it only got worse when they moved from engineering and mfg people running the company to sales and marketing types. Best to all and for the laugh. Old Bob

Write a book next time! Actually, I would probably buy it! Thanks for the story; my dad was an electrical supervisor at the Kent plant a long time ago.
