Really disappointing that it's come to this point. No doubt this is quickly becoming a hardship not just for striking workers (and their families) but also non-striking employees, vendors/supplies, and the local businesses that depend on Boeing dollars. It seems as if there needs to be just a little more give on both sides to get this done.

The way we lost the pension is that our a previous union president did a back door deal with Boeing by opening negotiations with out any one knowing and then called a vote when most of the people were out on Xmas break. Then when people returned they had lost their pensions for I think it was 10k up front and 5k in a few years. They tried to do a revote but Boeing knew what they were doing they made sure to cut those checks as fast as possible. Because of that happening. We changed our constitution and I heard that that union president had to leave the country… he’s lucky some one didn’t kill him. I heard people were thrown stuff at him as he left the building at a factory

@@sherrcon what people don't tell you is the history. That contract barely puts us back up to where we would have been today but only after 4 more years had boeing not shafted us 10 years ago into a 10 year extension. The contracts great if this was 2014, exceptional even. However its 10 years after 2014 without a raise. And during those 10 years, boeing has used 70 billion dollars in stock buy backs to the wealthiest share holders and 10s of billions to massive bonuses to executives. The ceo of boeing during the crashes got a 350 million dollar golden parachute while destroying iam 751 members and Boeings reputation. Even though both of those planes were built perfectly to spec and it was boeing that hid a major flaw from both us, the faa, and flying public to sell more planes. The reason we demand more even after a good contract is not us being greedy, its the 10+ year history of boeing to prioritize profits and sales over safety of its employees, quality of its aircraft, and compensation to its hardest workers that actually generate the revenue by sacrificing their health and bodies on the floor.

I have no affiliation with any of this, but my guess is that their rejection of the offer probably is not about the money per say, but more about where Boeing is, and where it's headed under their current management! These people are looking at themselves working for a company that has deep seated management problems and you have to know that the management is not taking the responsibility for those problems themselves, they are passing it down to the workforce, whoever that may be! If you probably asked those workers if money was the issue or the company and the issues that has happened or they have had with their planes and how management has tried to cover it up or put the blame elsewhere is probably the driving force behind it! But again, I am not involved and it's just my guess! I would love to see someone poll them for their reasons!

Boeing will not be out of business because of the massive backlog. Plus, it is the rival of Airbus. Machinists, AKA non college educated, so on average little to no school debt, with a 6 figure salary attainable not too long after joining the union. It really is hard to feel sorry for these people. It seems that there were several years (maybe 10?) without significant raises, and there seems to be a sentiment of "making up for lost time". Not all of the information is publicly available. If average inflation is 2% per year, the staff are looking for wage increases to compensate for inflation. a 20% increase would take care of that, with the extra 15% being the actual, realized pay raise. Adjusting for inflation I guess I see why a 15% increase over 10 years seems like a slap in the face, especially when pensions were disbanded back in 2014. However, I feel as though the union needs to be realistic about what is financially feasible for a company, as well. Why not broker a deal that includes a "revisit" clause in 3 years time? 40% pay increases and pensions for all is a significant amount of money for a hurting company to dish out. Unions need to be realistic.

@turbofanlover they won't go under. The military contracts alone will keep them afloat. They are no bid contracts. Boeing throws a number, and the taxpayers eat it. I live 20 miles from Boeing in Everett. It's a massive campus. The last contract, our idiot govenor, was boasting how great of a deal it was. He was part of the negotiating team. He gave up massive tax subsidies to Boeing if they promised to build their next airplane here. In exchange, Boeing wanted a 10-year contract, 401k, forced retirement for anybody within 3 years of retirement, or they too would be frozen out of their pension. And an extended amount of time to reach journeyman wages. There are a bunch of machinists doing journeymen work for less than journeyman pay. A lot of the machinist are living at their parents' house because they can't afford the inflated cost of living in Snohomish County or the surrounding counties. So, in a nut shell, Boeing offering a 30 percent raise is making up for no raises in over 10 years. It doesn't even bring them close to inflation of today.

Layoffs are only temporary, and to a lot of us, yes it is worth a temporary layoff to make up for what was taken from us. Not just the pension, I know that gets a LOT of coverage in the media, but another huge point of this strike is to lock in medical so they can't continue to raise it. We used to have full ride medical, while I know that's just unheard of now, this recent offer gives the company the opportunity to significantly raise what we have to pay, effectively reducing our net income. There are 7 main points to this strike (pay, job security, medical, retirement, COLA, pay progressions, and better pto [at LEAST give us what the rest of the company gets ffs]) so far this offer only meets us on 2 of them. Personally, they can keep the ratification bonus and lock in our medical. I would really like to be on the same playing field pto wise as the rest of the company, it takes 25 years to get to the top of vacation accrual and it's just awful until 15 years. The rest of the company gets what takes us 25 years in about 10, and it takes us 15 years to get what they start with. If you hire in at 18, you can't take a meaningful vacation until you're 43. Boeing workers voted to kill the golden goose. In the 1950s, Detroit was the richest city in the world. But the autoworkers' greed took Detroit to the ground. Those who can't learn from the mistakes of the past, will likely repeat them in the future. If Boeing was a huge success & raking in the cash, the strikers' move might be warranted. But those strikers' mistakes have brought Boeing to its knees, with its survival as the same company that it currently is being highly unlikely. What happened to the concept of better work, better rewards? Boeing's having trouble building airplanes that don't crash.

The company has came out and said, twice now, that the layoffs were going to happen regardless of the strike. They would take any chance to blame it on us, but most of the financial loss is not because of this strike. Some of it is, and yes this obviously won't help, but we can't feel sorry for them.
