Great demonstration Boggy ,I see diameter of the spindel,would that be the size you recommend?
@boggycreekbeast Жыл бұрын
Diameter of spindle really doesn't matter to me. I've used drills that were less than 1/4 inch and gotten embers. Material is the most important factor to me. That said, most people tell me they like spindles about the size of their ring finger. Average sized ring finger that is...not someone with massive hands! LOL! Hope you're doing well friend

@@boggycreekbeast lol,I have some goldenrod drying in the greenhouse at the moment,after I saw a video of you using it. Made me wonder I could with some practice use it as well,but the stems are fairly thin,like a pencil. Especially now when they dried,they intend to shrink a certain amount in size.
@boggycreekbeast Жыл бұрын
@@sosteve9113 Plants do shrink a lot. Especially if you cut green and let dry. I usually wait til they've come to a flower head, just as they start forming fluff and select the largest ones. They don't really shrink much then. Referring to Goldenrod of course. I can sometimes find them in the field and use as is. Teasel is a great plant to use for hand drill. You should have that and you can find good stalks now.

Am waaaay out on the trails so sorry for late response. I have seen that but it's rare. That's usually associated with the bow drill. For me, using the hand drill, it'usually the divot or tip. Hope that helps
