If you don't know what is the Variac switch is, it's an emulation of the EVH "brown sound". It means you lower the voltage of a tube amp and it also reduces the bias of the power tubes. I saw many people biasing their tubes rather too hot to get that brown sound, but it's bullshit! You can only approach the brown sound when you bias your tubes near cold, that's why on the ecstasy when you engage the Variac switch the volume decreases.

This thing is great. I run one through a PRS Sonzera 50w as my gain channel. I play melodic hardcore. It isn't the most metal pedal by itself, but with a boost in front this thing gets absolutely insane. Love how it plays with volume knobs too. After getting one of these my EVH 5153 has been benched.

Top marks to Leslie for learning the production tasks so quickly. I much prefer the 'quick and dirty' video, especially if I get twice as many videos as before.

Ive still own both the red and blue till now since they were release. This pedal is different than any expensive pedal that i have owned. Its so much not like pedal, its more like a channel on amp. Can be aggresive, percussive, chunky, and very dynamic. Its easy to get a nice and perfect tone from it.

Nice. if you had to pick between this and the Friedman BE-OD ,which box would you give the nod? I have the Friedman and it's great but I love the throaty and smooth mid-range crunch of this pedal. Also,... Any chance for a review (and comparison) of the Digitech VRCab pedal to your Torpedo box? Obviously it doesn't do the load box function of the torpedo but it does have speaker emulation that would allow direct out into my DAW. It would be very interesting to see if that box would sway me to buy it at a much lower price point than the Torpedo line. Apparently, you can run it thru your amps FX loop as the last pedal and thru the cab Sim output but also take advantage of the dry output jack for the times when I prefer a real micing of the speaker or just jamming with the amp normally. The idea of saving a lot of money versus the torpedo has my interest.

Just stumbled upon this video, great analysis of the Bogner Red pedal, which I recently purchased used. You sir make great/interesting/informative and entertaining videos! I'm still testing my pedal, but it sounds great so far thru a Mesa TC50 with EL34's in the clean channel and really brings out the lower frequencies and very punchy. It makes me think I need to add more EQ control to the amp when *NOT* using the pedal, lol. You should show a shot of your producer, by golly..

more companies should make pedals with volume and gain boost.... its great for soloing... but this one is too expensive for me. any cheaper options?
@m.g.62267 жыл бұрын
Schau doch mal nach den Zerren von T-Rex. Die haben mehrere mit Boost oder zweiter Zerrstufe. Look at the Padels from T-Rex. They have some with boost or second Overdrive/Distortion Stage.

I have had this pedal for a year and not a day goes by that I don't play it. Henning may or may not agree but I personally find it does a great brown sound tone. Play mean streets all the time with it. Do a demo of the Uberschall pedal next for your metal viewers. Well ✅
@Lukasz_KLAT7 жыл бұрын
I think Ecstasy Red it's still better and more versatile than Uberschall pedal. Metal heads will still boost amp/pedal with tubescreamer type OD. It's possible to get Uberschall tones on Ecstasy Red but not vice versa.
@fullmetalsal7 жыл бұрын
Łukasz Klat you think or you've personally tried what you just said?
@Lukasz_KLAT7 жыл бұрын
I based my opinion on KZbin videos with direct to interface recording, and my experience with VST's emulating both Ecstasy and Uberschall. Just keep in mind that pushing with tubescreamer will drastically change the character of gain and saturation and only in situation when both pedals are pushed with TS, Ecstasy can sound like Uberschall. Without TS, they are two different sounding pedals. Correct me if I'm wrong ;)
@fullmetalsal7 жыл бұрын
Łukasz Klat your theory is not bad and applies to most cases but as I mentioned before I have both for a reason. I was not able to push the Ecstasy with a TS. It just didn't "grind" like the EVH red channel or a Mesa Rectifier. It's just not designed for that type of chugging drop metal stuff. A TS does wonders to some amps and I do agree with your concept.
@vector00017 жыл бұрын
12th Fret this is the exact question i had. I ve loved the time of uberschall but it is limited in terms of the tweaks that the offers. So can one dial in the uberschall time using the red with a lower gain?

just got this pedal a week ago and it's just so much better in person to fully appreciate it! I've played on a couple of Ecstasy's...had alot of fun but wasn't fully satisfied to pull the trigger for one on sale for $2,800 at the time. This pedal gets ya where you wanna go without the sticker shock and your wallet being $3k lighter. Right now pedal manufacturers are REALLY on top of their game with how amp like some of these pedals are! I bought the 5150 OD and a PAL 800 JCM Emulator and just WOW. I'll probably get the Friedman BE OD too...great options on the market!

how do you think this would sound on a mesa dry clean channel with hum bucker in the bridge? I still like tones of mesa tube better (on the clean channel at least). For some reason i like the sloppy OD's better like a fender od or boss od, this sounds too clean of an OD to me, more 80s sounding to me. not knocking, i just like sloppy woodchopping spongy OD, but everyone has their preferences and tastes....

Funny to see how far your videos have come since this. At one point Leslie was "in training" and now she is a complete Pro and you two work together so well even though we don't see her from where we sit. Seems you were also working through some camera settings in this one as well. on your more recent videos you have improved your flow a lot. None of this is criticism to say this video is subpar, this video is awesome! I love you and all that you do and hope to one day meet you.

At a gig could you use this with a DI to go directly to the PA? If you did how would it sound? Would you need some form of cabinet emulation?
@trevinormatt7 жыл бұрын
Eric Fisher you would need cab emulation and power amp emulation as well. I've had mine for about two months now and run it in front of a PRS Sonzera set to the edge of breakup. Sounds absolutely massive. I did some recording tests just plugging it into my interface and adding IR's and power amp simulation via Two Notes Wall of Sound. Very, very great sound like that.
