Releasing the cab, zero doubt a full Tonex board is coming soon. As far as "mic vs live"...that's cool ! It works wonders, but this Tonex makes that far easier and switchable! (Obviously). Well done Tonex.

Time to realize that a three knob eq is archaic unless it’s part of a designated combo of course. New digital amps are made to play through so many different speakers in so many situations a three band eq does not cut it.

I've never been convinced that something with an FRFR label is superior to a PA speaker. Both have full-range sound, with limited tonal shaping characteristics. But PA speakers tend to be more powerful, cheaper and readily available. I usually just go straight into the house sound, but when I don't trust the sound guy to get me a good consistent monitor mix, I just grab one of my PA speakers from our rehearsal room and it sounds fantastic connected to my modeler. Just my $0.02. YMMV.

My real problem was that I really hated playing guitar out of my studio monitors. The secondary issue is now that models sound way better than anything I can possibly dial in. At this point I can sell off amps, keep one and just deal with free models uploaded to tune hunt/tone net/presets all of which 1000x better than anything I can dial in. To deal with this I bought an older Laney IRT-X. Laney has comeout with a newer LFR product. This looks good .. just deciding on what ecosystem to marry. There are so many different ecosystems ... And although that does not sound like my "normal" rigs, it just fills space with what is basically my studio/recording sound. And that is just as good for me. Even if it only has bass/mid/treble to adjust, it sounds way better than most dedicated FRFR cabs for guitar. And yes, I've tested a lot of them ever since I got my ToneX. This cab will be a great solution for many though.

The question is can I use it to play bass through it and is it loud enough?
@rollingslothmachine3431Күн бұрын
If it is not rated for bass guitar, you should not risk it. Guitar amps can used as bass amps, because they are fundamentally the same, except for the sound stage and some features. But speakers have a certain range and maximum load they can handle. Bass guitars go much deeper and therefore throw much more energy into the speaker, because the lower the frequency, the bigger the power needed to produce it.

In many venues, center fill is still not a thing. The most die-hard fans press themselves against the stage dead center, where the PA arrays aren't hitting, with the drum set smack in front of them. The PA array is behind them, blowing guitar and vocals away from them. Then they come up to you at break and say "I couldn't really hear your guitar [or vox]." We use in-ear monitors, and I would be perfectly happy to NOT have any guitar sound on stage - with it all coming out the PA, but that center fill situation is why I can't do that. I still need a cab on stage to fill in the middle. I am using Tonex live now, and I split my signal sending one path straight to FOH and another to the return of my H&K amp and cab. That gives me the beef up front, but again, I would love to ditch the amp and cab. I just can't until venues get more savvy filling the center up front. I would consider using something like this Tonex cab if it is loud enough to do the same job well.

I bought a Tonex One based on KZbin reviews and now it's a doorstop. Apparently, because I registered it, I can't sell it to anyone else. It will end up in a landfill soon. If I play at home, I would just buy 2 decent studio monitors to get my "tones" (stereo if I need/like). That's it. If I want a cabinet sound (at home or live), I would go hybrid or full analog. Mike that cab if I need. But getting 1.6K FRFR at home...or 800 dollars on stage...and risking not to hear myself (and still send the signal to a PA)...I don't get it. Nice that you have shown the rcf 10 sma at the beginning. I use two of these ones with a kemper and the sound is awesome and yes it’s expensive. I tried the kemper cabs and they can’t reach the sound of the rcf monitors. What I absolutely don’t get is what tonex tried here. All the things that are integrated in a kemper are mixed up here in a monocab in combination with the tonex. IR loading in the frfr? Why? EQ in the cab? Why? Ir and eq is part of the rig. Done. Old technic with a „ tweeter“, why? Endless additional trouble points and endless time for tweaking. Btw, I also tried the kemper cabs in their headquater and we tested the rcf ones directly compared to the tiny and lightweight kemper cabs. The rcf sound way more better. If you have the chance, check out the rcf ones. I think they will excellent work with the fm9 or the tonex too. OK they will sound good but not better comoared with the kemper, because the kemper itself sounds better than both units ( just noted it for the shitstorm🥳🥳🤘)
