This video covers some of the key experiments that helped conclusively determine that DNA and not proteins were the molecule of inheritance. For many years, proteins were assumed to be the key to heredity, as there are so many highly complex proteins in the human body. Proteins are made of 20 amino acids arranged and folded to take a specific shape, while DNA has only four building blocks and is arranged in only one way. Hershey and Chase and Avery and Griffiths performed key experiments that conclusively proved that the genetic code is hidden within DNA rather than proteins.
