Jingles, I appreciate you posting this battle. Thank you. To address some of the comments, I am, in fact, a mediocre player who just had a really great battle. A couple of people pointed out that I had only 3K damage to my ship, while doing upwards of 113K. Part of the reason for this, and the reason I posted the video, is because few players on the enemy team were actually shooting at me. I only had 28K potential damage. That's extraordinary. This battle demonstrates what can happen if you ignore even a barely competent player like me. I've only been playing the game for a relatively short time, and I was not aware that double clicking would fire the full salvo at once. Thanks for that advice. I'll give it a try. Oh, and I completely forgot about the spotter plane. I've only had this ship a short time. I got it for the Personal Challenges, and this battle was an attempt to complete a level for a German battleship. I'll try to remember it next time. Thank you, everyone, for your input and advice. Thanks again, Jingles, and Happy Birthday.

@@kaltaron1284 yeah the "toh-KEE-oh" thing always amused me. Normally English speakers will tend to compress some compound Japanese vowel sounds down into fewer syllables, which is more understandable (like pronouncing "hai" like the English greeting "hi"). But for some reason a lot of us opt to take what is technically a four syllable word ("To-u-kyo-u") that could be better be represented in English as a two-syllable word ("To-kyo") and needlessly make it a three syllable word.

The Konig was the ship, which made me fond of warships in general. Back in the early 2000s there was a Russian(?) top down view strategy game called the ''Entente'' set in WWI. It was real simple, but very fun. In that game, the most powerful unit was the battleship - it costed a ton of resources, could one-shot almost anything and had half of the entire map in its range. Out of each nation's battleships the german ''Konig'' was the most badass thing my 6 year-old mind had ever seen.

@KermitTheGamer212 жыл бұрын
Lots of ships in the game are called by one ship of the class but actually have the model of another ship in the class. Kongo is a good example as you mentioned, and I think the British Tier 3 cruiser Caledon is not based on Caledon but one of the other C-class cruisers. I believe the German Tier 5 cruiser Konigsberg is based on one of the other ships in the class, and Gangut is actually Poltava.
@the_tactician98582 жыл бұрын
The only reason that ships gave broadsides in WWII was that it allowed the guns to get a stable range bearing. The last thing a gun officer wants to hear is that the range that he gave to the gunners is now invalid because the ship changed course and speed. Of course that doesn't matter in WoWS, where aiming is almost as easy as in WoT. Edit: ARP Hiei is the Arpeggio Blue Steel version of the Hiei, pronounced Hee-Ey. The ship is named after Hiei Mountain near Kyoto, Japan
@roberteltze48502 жыл бұрын
A couple other reasons. Scoring the first hit and disrupting the enemy ship is far more important than the risk of armor penetration. WOWS simply doesn't model the chaos that occurs when your ship takes a hit. I believe there was a US battleship that had unprotected power lines on the deck, an early hit severed them and took the ship out of the fight. The Iowa class battleships, pegasus others too, were designed to only fire broadsides. Firing in the frontal arc would cause damage to itself

Another good thing about T5 is you get to see Two Brothers map (my favorite). In other news it seems like the co-op bots are smarter lately; they're using more coordinated tactics, getting stuck on islands less, and they love to ram now. They woke me up with a couple of lost matches before I figured out what was going on.
@clefsan2 жыл бұрын
In coop, on Two Brothers, up to half the bots in my games think they are Flambass and rush through the middle, leaving you with nothing to shoot at after sinking one or two ships if you went out on one of the flanks. Also more often than not at least 1 bot (usually a DD or cruiser) gets stuck on an island. I took quite a break from the game before starting to play again around last December, but I remember the coop-bots were much better in the past.
@dominicbuckley83092 жыл бұрын
They seem to make more of a concerted rush on the enemy cap these days. They also stay in the cap now, while before they tended to exit just before capping, which was always infuriating. I've won a couple of matches recently by just hanging back and defending the base, farming the enemy bots as they approach. Meanwhile enemy players have pushed forward, allowing my team's bots to cap unopposed.

3:59 - Actually Jingles, that was still naval doctrine during WWII (going broadside). In fact, the last gun battle of WWII the US crossed the T against the Japanese as that limited the total number of guns the Japanese could bring to bear whereas the US had all their guns being brought to bear. What happens in WoWs is *NOT* realistic with naval doctrines of WWI nor WWII. Wargaming does not take into account things like Vickers/STS armor plating nor does it take into account angles of armor from side plating (most ships had their armor angled between 9 degrees and up to 20 degrees so that close in shells (with flat trajectories) would end up hitting more effective armor and the shells would be angled downward away from vital areas. So, for those people asking, you should point out that WoWs is nowhere near realistic and is an arcade game and not a true naval simulator of battles.
@Kackpuh2 жыл бұрын
One major factor (besides having more guns and the enemy having less) is simple ballistics. The left/right dispersion of shells is considerably less severs than the fore/back (or up/down). Real guns work just like the artillery in WoT, giving you an extremely oval hitting field. You could train your gun extemely precise on you enemy and pretty much never hit "besides" the enemy (even with driving ships etc), but even the slightest disturbance coul make your shot go way high or way too low. SO having your ship with the longer side perpendicular to your enemy instead of facing him meant he had a way harder time hitting you. Funnily enough they made that exactly the opposite in WoWS (guns having far greater sideways dispersion instead of range dispersion), probably because they wanted all that "angling" and bouncing shots thing instead of even the slightest bit of reality in their games, making for hilarious situations if you have ever in your life even heard of ballistics.

I'd add to Jingles's instruction about not sailing in straight lines, etc. if there's a non-friendly smokescreen in the area ... Whatever the situation, whatever the ship, it should be a habit to frequently jog around with course and speed. Even simply hitting the brakes now and then can make all the difference. I've lost count of the times I've been motoring along in a BB, done this, then watched a Wall Of Steel buzz through where I would have been 20-30 seconds later. It's the main reason I love using PropMod whenever possible. The same maneuver can also throw off long--range gunfire, needless to say. It's well worth doing evasive maneuvers as a habitual thing, whatever else might be going on in the battle.

We were rushing a Zieten on Two Brothers and the Zieten had just peaked out from behind an island on the eastern side of the map. I anticipated torpedoes but the Ruppy was in the way and was going in front of me. So I decided to turn right into him and 2 seconds later the torps were spotted. The Ruppy didn't eat any torps since I was pushing him aside but I took one and my damage con was on cooldown so I ended up taking a pot more damage than I had hoped.

Another reason why many people don't like tier 5: At least on the Asia server, the vast majority of ships in a match in tiers 1-4 are all bots. At tier V however, this changes massively, and suddenly you're thrown into matches against mostly real humans, which require a completely different style of gameplay compared to the braindead bots you're used to.

4:00 The bit about not showing broadside has nothing to do with age of sail vs. 20th century warships, and everything to do with game mechanics vs. reality. As recently as both world wars, the tactics for both fleets and individual ships were still always to turn broadside to the enemy in order to bring all possible guns to bear (unless one side was specifically trying to close or open the distance). "Bow tanking" was never a viable tactic in real naval engagements. The reason it works in WoWs is that the game models all parts of a ship's hull as having the same damage resistance, with the only consideration being thickness. In reality, of course, different parts of ships were made from different types of steel, with only actual armor plates having significant damage resistance properties. In reality, the bow of a battleship or cruiser could never have "bounced" large caliber shells regardless of angle or its exact thickness; it would be made of a more mild steel that has essentially no value as armor.
