Fun fact: The Concorde wasn't just practically the only passenger plane to fit afterburners, but it's one of only two planes ever to fit both afterburner and thrust reverser on the same engine, the other being the SAAB 37 Viggen.

Growing up living in south eastern Michigan I would see B-17s and and mustangs flying over the house multiple times a summer going up to different air shows. Wasn't a far drive to the Air Force museum in Dayton either! Always took it for granted. Funny how different perspectives make you appreciate things more!

I had the pleasure of visiting Duxford during my time in England - I'm glad they've kept the place up and, evidently, greatly expanded the exhibits. My grandfather was stationed at a nearby airbase during the war, as a civilian volunteer with the Army Air Corps. He still speaks fondly of England and the British today.

Went there over the weekend, and it is an amazing day out, so much to see, in fact too much for just one visit! You could spend all day in just one of the hangars, there are SO MANY planes (and other things) to see, and walking through the Concorde was absolutely amazing, one of those things I'll never forget! (Mind your head though, I banged mine twice!)

@MrElis420
@MrElis420 8 жыл бұрын
Roy Shein Dude, you said it was a Hellcat in your first post, I don't see one, I see a P-47 in front, a P-40 behind the P-47, and a A-1 Skyraider or something in the back with the folded wings.
@MrElis420
@MrElis420 8 жыл бұрын
Roy Shein That's not an F6F or F4F lol, it's clearly a P-47. Sure, the two are similar in looks, and used basically the same type of engines, but seriously... How can you miss that it's not a Hellcat or Wildcat? Turn on the video annotations, Jingles himself wrote it's a P-47.
@MrElis420
@MrElis420 8 жыл бұрын
Roy Shein I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, I just genuinely don't get how you think it's not a P-47 man.
@MrElis420
@MrElis420 8 жыл бұрын
+Roy Shein I know, it does have 8 guns. The guns closest to the pilot were inserted further back into the wings, making it look like there was only 6 guns. Look at the engine cowling, look how far spaced out the landing gear is, no tail-hook, it's painted in the Operation Overlord invasion stripes, it's just obviously not a carrier aircraft like the F4F Wildcat or F6F Hellcat, it's a P-47 dude! Compare these images to the view of the guns on the aircraft. www.google.com/search?q=P-47+guns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi15Lrp-6jMAhUByYMKHZ2EAuEQ_AUIBygB&biw=1600&bih=785#imgrc=N-VpjSoNmgPvZM%3A

Ah, this brings back memories. Before I moved to Canada, I used to live about half an hour from Duxford. My workplace at the A11 rest stop in Little Abington was about 10-15 minutes away. We used to go to the museum at least once a year. I remember walking through that Concorde back when they had it perked out on the taxi-way. Don't think they had the Vulcan back then, but I could be wrong. I do remember seeing the Vulcan flying at the R.A.F Leuchars air show back when my dad was stationed there. So when I was about 10. I can still remember how loud that thing was even 20 years later XD. Also, shame on you Jingles for not pointing out the Sturmgewehr 44 in the weapons case XD. That gun was an important part of history. It may not have had much of an impact on the war, but it was the worlds first assault rifle, even giving us the name for the class of weapons (Sturmgewehr literaly translates to 'storm rifle', with storm obviously being the 'storm that position' variety, thus, assault rifle).

Jingles. on the Concorde a round trip from new york to paris would have cost 10,000USD right before the paris crash, compared to an equivalent subsonic airliner which would be around 2000USD. So taking this into mind a Concorde ticket would cost roughly 5X times as much as a normal 747 flight ticket.

Jingles, at 05:13 the aircraft behind the spit, its a EMB 312 (Military AT-27) "Tucano", Low-wing tandem-seat single-turboprop basic trainer with counter-insurgency capability developed in Brazil, by Embraer. We no longer use it for defense in Brazil, only for basic training of flight cadets. the new emb 314 (A-29) replaced it as light fighter. i've piloted many of these and i can say that it is very maneuvarable. looks pretty cool on the RAF colors. Exactly, only re-engined with a 1.100 shp Garret, with four-blade propeller. (original T-27 uses a P&W PT6 engine with better climb power) the avionics suffered minor changes because of british operational training patterns. But i was talking about the plane itself not the modification, although, good point you have made.

Hello again, Mighty Gnome Overlord...I realized the other day that you had posted videos of a visit you made to IWM Duxford in 2013 with Camera Minion Eddie. However, only two of an apparent four videos that you posted are still up on KZbin. There is a "Part 1" and a "Part 3", but no "Part 2"...and there was a caption at the end of part 3 that says there is another video of the actual Air Show you had gone to Duxford to attend. I am wondering what happened to the other parts? I would really like to see them if possible, as Duxford is one of the museums I visited the summer I spent in England in 2009.

Jingles, if you decide to visit U.S. You should tour the U.S. pacific coast during the summer sometime, it has great aircraft museums. I would suggest going to the Boeing Field museum (SR-71) in Washington, then head down the Evergreen Aerospace museum (SR-71, The Spruce Goose) in Oregon, then watch the Sacramento Capital Airshow with the a bunch of huge planes to walk in, and jets flying over at nearly supersonic. Afterwards, the McClellan air museum has a great collection of jets (A-10, F-14)!

Washington DC. has nothing on Ohio because the Museum has 4 hangers filled with aircraft and circular room filled with every ICBM the US has ever used standing up right in Genesis pattern. It has almost every aircraft the US has ever used or tested and they plan on building another hanger. This museum takes at least a day to get through and at most two days. Enthusiasm overcomes accuracy. Errors beyond number. It is indeed an Avro Anson the Lysander you talk about is suspended immediately above it - painted black - with an access ladder. The mosquito is a bomber-type converted to target towing - the Shackleton was for maritime patrol and not a bomber and the Victor was the last of the V bombers and not the predecessor of the Vulcan. And at 12:44 you can't see an aircraft "in person" - you can only see a person in-person.

The Lightening (built and designed by English Electric) was in service until 1990, and you look old enough to have seen a Vulcan fly as they flew until the mid 80s.

I actually live quite close to duxford, it's only like a 10/20 minute drive from where I live and I we able to see most of the airshow from my flat, I've still sadly never been

Nice video, Jingles.You should go to RIAT, at RAF Fairford. They have hundreds of planes, from WW2 era to modern day fighters. I saw the Vulcan there 2 years ago: I was about 100m from the runway as it was taking off and it's the loudest thing I have ever heard!!

Haha, theres a charm in the way that Jingles sometimes says the wrong name on the aircraft, just as in the tank videos when you always say the wrong number. the effect of waking up early

Glad someone else pointed this out, because I thought the same when looking at it. Being American and all, a good friend of mine has an SKS, and it's a fun rifle to shoot. Shoots 7.62x39 (same as AK-47) which he usually gets for about 40-50 cents per round.

I maybe wrong, but I heard and read somewhere that the hurricane was actually a better fighter then the spitfire. its just they made for spitfires then hurricanes and it was more publicized. I thought I read somewhere that the hurricane actually got more kills then the spitfire, I could be wrong tho because it was a while back.
