Damnthat intro was wicked. Boil them cabbage down should really be played like that (6ways) I am going to learn every way and then compile them like the intro here and that's the way I am going to always play BTCD

Mike, your lessons are fantastic. Quick question for a beginner. At what speed (bpm) is optimal for "boil them cabbage down" once you feel comfortable with accuracy? In other words at what speed are you playing in the intro? If anyone else knows please comment. Take care.

Thanks for the kind words. The intro version was played at 200BPM if you've want a click on every beat. Or set it at 100BPM if you want a click on Beats 1 and 3 (like a bluegrass bass). There really isn't a "set" tempo for this song though. Hope this helps. Best, - Mike

man.... guitar doesnt translate to the banjo even at all.... "how hard can the banjo be?? im comfortable with finger picking"- me.

Clyde G I know it took me a bit to get the basic banjo picking down. Keep practicing I’m sure you’ll get it. Guitar translates more to banjo with your left hand (some chord shapes will be similar) right hand is quite a bit different. Good luck. - Mike

takes 3 to 4 days to get the roll down, maybe 1 more day to get string-fret timing, then this, BTCD, then cripple creek, then half-ass foggy, then all the way. It is easier than it seems; when you first cycle your fingers the wrong way (not pinky first), it seems impossible. you need to practice often, not long, as soon as you get fucked up, stop, then come back, it will much easier when you come back . you can learn rolls WITHOUT PICKS, and I recommend it. Banjo's are loud, good ones, and it will drive you nuts playing shit banjo in your ear, so use fingers until you can do it, the 5-3-1, then use picks for the tighter rolls
