Hello again Nili. I have tried your method over a dozen times and it works perfect every time. Previously I tried 15 different ways of making hard boil eggs with BROWN EGGS on the stove top--none of them ever worked for me. The boiled egg came off with the shell. But the Instant Pot and your video solved the problem. Since I have 9 chickens I get lots of eggs. So I have made hard boiled and deviled eggs for my son, my daughter, the kids next door (all 4 of them) and whoever wants them. Your video and my 8qt Instant Pot made the day. I will never make hard boiled eggs on the stove top again. Once again, many thanks for the video. I always enjoy them.

I think you have figured out something us southerners have been trying to figure out for years for fresh eggs. A lot of people may not know, but fresh eggs, and I mean the ones you went and got out of the nest fresh, will keep for a few months as long as you dont wash them. When you get ready to consume, wash them good, then do what ever. The eggs have a protective film on them from the lay. I think this might have something to do with it, dont know... but this is good stuff, cause folk been trying to figure this out for a while. Good job :-)

Thanks for the tip on Hard boiled eggs. I just got my Instant Pot and I'm looking forward to cooking with it. People like you who make videos for people like me are a blessing to the electronic / social media world. I see that you are also a very pretty young mom with a very sweet baby, and I surmise one other in the back ground so congrats there. I enjoyed your clear and precise mannerism and taking the time to show us your skills. I have subscribed!!

OMG...just watched your most recent video of 5-23-24 then this one popped up from 8 years ago! I have never done eggs in my instant pot before so I gave it a try. You differ in that you used the steam function. 6 minutes, QR , ice bath. They did peel off in large pieces. I HB eggs from the same carton in a pan but I had a hard time getting the peel off! Never again. Perfect!

Don't know how I lived without this for so long! I make dog food for 2 of our dogs kzbin.infoUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg (we have 5!) and it is so much quicker in this. Love having the inner pot stainless so I can use my immersion blender right in it without worrying about scratching. It makes potatoes great and fast! Still working on the vegetables, first time came out great, second time I did different ones and they were a little too mushy. Just need to adjust the time. I highly recommend this pot!!!

Hi Nili, Thanks fo much for your videos. I just bought an 8qt Instant Pot and watched your "testing and boiled eggs" videos. Followed them to the T and everything was perfect. After trying 15 different methods to peel brown hard boiled eggs and failing each time, I finally found a way for them to peel perfectly using the Instant Pot. I don't know why either but glad it works. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to viewing your other videos. Thanks again. Gary, Gettysburg, PA

I steamed a dozen using trivet and just stacked on each other. Perfect!!! Used the same 6 minutes for both batches. Shes in her apron steamed 25 at once. Freaking love the instant pot.

Bought mine yesterday. I had a brisket in my fridge so I cut it up sliced against the grain, seasoned & browned it on "saute". pressure cooked med for 35 minutes & it was done!! really tasty & tender! OMG for brisket thats amazing enough but I want it for dinner so I put it on low slow cook for the 4 hrs and will put BBQ sauce on it for dinner after I get the grease off it.

Hi...I saw your video this morning and wanted to try it. I used one of those steamer baskets and put 10 eggs in it long with a cup of water..the eggs were touching. :) I set it on steam but only put on 5 minutes wanting them to be just a little softer. After it shut off, I released the steam and put the eggs in an ice bath for a few minutes. I cracked the top and bottom on the egg and the sides (don't know if it makes a difference or not) and then peeled them...the shells almost fell off. The eggs were done perfectly and tasted awesome. That's how I'll be making them from now on. Thanks a lot for the video. Take care.

Nice - that is basically, the way I do steamed. Yes, they peel like a dream. I've been 'steaming them' on the stove, but may try the instant pot. But the stove is always right there waiting! Neat trick, though, I really like your videos of the Instant Pot!

Thank you so much for the video! I think someone else may have already said this, but here goes: All of our eggs come from my DIL's chickens. UBER FRESH!! Have always had issues peeling them. The kids got me an Instant Pot for Xmas. I will NEVER hard boil any other way again. It works because despite egg shells appearing 'solid', they are actually air permeable. Think about how some eggs release little streams of air bubbles when cooked with conventional methods. There is actually a bit of air in the egg. The pressure heats the air and water, turning it to steam, which forces the membrane away from the egg, and then escapes through the micro spaces. If they crack during the process, so much the better. Voila! As an experiment, I actually tried skipping the cold water bath, since this was my old 'trick' for making 'perfect' eggs. Which did work many times, but not always. Tough to predict. With the IP, the eggs still peeled like a dream, even without cooling. Yes, I got burnt, but all in the name of science, lol. Bottom line, with the IP, the eggs come out uniformly cooked and easy to peel EVERY TIME. So totally Worth it.

I think the reason behind the easy peel is the blanching process. Essentially you are blanching the egg going from really hot to really cold. You do the same to tomatoes and peppers to remove the outer skin and to stop the cooking process.

This hack works for me most times, when your ready to peal your eggs, tap each end to crack he shell, place on a firm surface and with your hand apply a little pressure and roll the egg to crack the remaining shell, and peel, hope works for you. The first steps easily done with with one hand, try peeling under a stream of running cold water, sometimes the action of the water behind the shell or membrane makes the job much easier.

I just tried your method, my first time with eggs in the IP and I'm here to say it works! I had just boiled eggs the other day and got so frustrated trying to peel them (the brown shell ones) I was about to quit ever trying again. I was sad because its such a quick and healthy food. This video popped up and I watched out of boredom but I tried it with 7 eggs on the rack, set it for 5 min Steam button on high pressure and I totally forgot to put the seal in the lid so steam was coming out for probably 5 minutes before I realized. I put the seal in and set it for 2 minutes not knowing if they were already cooking. They turned out perfect! The yolks were just cooked through, not under or overdone. Thank you!

Just made the eggs following your instructions to the letter. My yolks were a tad below hard boiled in the very center. It’s like the step right before hard boiled. Center is firm but much darker than outer areas of the yolk, but not nearly runny. I’ll try 7 minutes next time. I’m using Instant Pot Duo Plus.

Great vivid, thank you for sharing. The reason why they peel easier is because you are dumping them in ice water. The membrane sticks on to the shell because of the change in temperature. The insta pot helps in reaching a hotter temperature faster. All of this factors in. :)

Tried it, no eggs exploded and all the peels came off in one piece. The yolks seem to be more tender. I thought it would be more trouble than on the stove but really as long as you have the pot handy, it's easier than setting the timer and waiting for eggs to boil on the stove. Thanks!

I think the science is molecule dynamic. Pressure cooker has a higher boiling point than a stove pan. In higher temperature, molecules run faster and there are more space between them. So that the membrane between egg white and shell is pushed toward to the shell (The shell also gets push too, so it cracks sometimes). After cooking, eggs are put into ice water. Suddenly the molecules' movement of egg white slow down and the egg starts to shrink. However, the membrane is still attached to the shell which makes it easier to peel.

I don't think it has anything to do with the pressure though, just the higher temperature (as a result from the pressure). I have an old "egg cooker" that you put a tiny bit of water in, prick the eggs, then set them end up in a rack, and cover with a lid. The eggs steam instead of boil, and and are easy to peel every time, even eggs that were laid that day by our chickens. I have a feeling it is the higher temperature achieved through pressure cooking or in my case steaming, that makes them easier to peel.

Rory Zhuang , I agree with nun yabidness from the message above. Even before instant pot usage, I used to place the boiled eggs in cold water right after taking away from the stove. They peeled very well. Just like another favourite tip I got from a friend (this one is as a bonus for you guys, 🙂). After I cook rice and it's steamed enough, I sprinkle some cold water from the tap onto it. I run a spatula through it and cover it, keeping it away from the stove now. This stops further cooking, and the grains don't form lumps at all. Additionally, no rice gets stuck to the bottom of my pot, even if it seemed so just off the stovetop.

Thank you for this video. I’ve come back to it a couple times to make sure I was doing it right. My hard boiled eggs never turned out until now!! 🤗 I also wanted to share that my 12 year old wanted to help me peel them. He peeled one in only two pieces and was able to put the egg shell back together to look whole. It was pretty cool 😄 Chrissy

Thank you ! I make tons of stuff in my Instant Pot (and have at least a dozen videos on youtube about Instant Pot) but have used a little egg machine for years for the hard cooked eggs we eat every day. Now my current egg machine is on the fritz so I figure....why spend $35 to replace it! I'll certainly try Instant Pot first!

Just saw your video after watching about 3 different ones. All a little different but end result is still the same. I put mine for 4 minutes cause I like them a little wet inside. It came out perfect. Thanks for the video!

Love your video's, I have learned so much from you and don't feel half as intimidated by my pressure cooker now. I think you are amazing. So organised and resourceful when budgeting and batch cooking family meals. Big round of applause to you from Dublin, Ireland xx

I don't have an IP type pressure cooker. All of my 12 pressure cookers are the stovetop type. But I wanted to try this method of hard boiling eggs for potato salad. I watched and listened to your video this morning and then I went and copied it using my 8 quart Fagor Duo. I put about 1.5 cups of water in the pot. I put the basket in the pot and started the heat. As the pot heated up, I placed 10 eggs into the basket. They fit with plenty of space between them. I put the lid on and set the pressure valve to HIGH. After a short time, my pressure came up and I started the timer. I used 6 minutes just as you demonstrated in your video. When the time was up, I let the pressure come down by opening the valve. I was afraid if I let the pressure come down naturally, the eggs would be petrified wood when I rescued them from the heat. I followed your instructions and put all 10 eggs into an ice bath. I went on cooking other things on the stove while the eggs sat in the ice bath. After about 6 or 7 minutes had passed, I took one out of the bath and it was cooled off with only a remnant of heat still coming through. I was pretty excited about peeling one of the eggs. I was hoping they would peel as nicely as yours did in the video. I just peeled one of these eggs -- just now -- just before sitting back down to finish typing this comment. And the egg peeled exactly as you demonstrated! The shell peeled cleanly from the flesh of the egg. And the yolk was just cooked, not cooked into oblivion like most other methods I've tried! Well done! Your instructional video was accurate and when followed, I can attest to the fact that it works and works very well! Thank you for the video. I will use this method hence forth with confidence that it will work as I want and expect.

@@IndigoNili And we're 2 days after hard boiling (pressure cooking, actually) our 10 eggs and they're still peeling ridiculously easy! That alone makes it worth doing your hard boiled eggs this way. Thanks again! Great tip and great method.

I love this video! My old pressure cooker died on me and I was waffling between the Instant Pot and that great big Power Pressure Cooker. You helped me make up my mind. Thanks! I enjoy your videos and your baby is adorable. :)

I just got my first Instant Pot Pressure Cooker 8 Qt. My old one was a Power Pressure Cooker which I have problems using it in certain recipes and the Customer Service/Technical Support was not very helpful. The quality of the IP is definitely more superior than the Power Pressure Cooker. Thank you Nili for your time and sharing all the recipes and info on the IP. Hugs xx to your kids.

I'm going to do my HBE's like this from now on! I hate how hard eggs are to peal so often. I'll have to try the soft "steamed" method you mentioned, too. (3 minutes vs 6.)

I never learned how to cook, but members in my FB group have the Instant Pot and rave about it. I bought one last night (1/6/2018), and cooked my first eggs this morning. They were quite edible, but I used 2 cups of water. Set the pressure to More (because I thought you had...wrong). Steamed for 6 minutes. Put them in ice cold water for a minute or two. ... They weren't boiled hard. They landed somewhere in the middle of medium to hard.... My stomach didn't know the difference, though. : )

With eggs it seems that people need to find a time that works best for their specific pot and their location (elevation, etc. effects pressure cooking) Since your eggs weren't quite hard just add a minute next time and I bet they'll be perfect. :) Then you'll have your perfect egg recipe!
